A Perfect Planning Tool

Yes, it has a steep learning curve. Yes there are idiosyncracies to discover. But that is because this is such a powerful product. I have some background in CAD use so I wanted something more than a beginner level product. This one delivered. I was able to input my entire house, generate 3 D renderings to perfectly reflect it. So far, I've used it to plan a kitchen remodel and layout Christmas lights. Next up is a basement remodel. Do not buy this expecting to use it perfectly right out of the box, but if you are willing to invest the time to learn it, search online for answers when you have problems and set up your defaults properly - this is a killer program for home design possibilities. I think it is well worth the money as it saves me the trouble of creating problems for myself in the real world.

Great visualization!

Still figuring it out (it has a LOT of features), but it's been a lot of fun! My husband and I just bought a house built in 1916. We're getting ready to restore the heart wood floors/trim in the original portion of the house, and update the newer portion. This program has been a great asset in helping us to visualize it from different points of view and generate some ideas. My only complaint is building the roof in this program. Since we have an older house (and it's had additions over the years) the roof is custom. Building that in HDS 2016 is prooving to be a serious challenge! :) But we'll figure it out!

Great Software

Reading the reviews I couldn't decide if Home Designer Suite 2016 was great or awful. Downloading and installing was very straight forward with no surprises or problems. After using it for awhile, I can understand the spread in reviews. First the great. Powerful software that gives a lot of flexibility in designing a home. The properties of each object, door, window, couch, etc. can be modified. I really like the interior and exterior views so you can see what the finished house will look like. The way the user can push a set of objects (i.e. a row of cabinets) is great. The centering tool is a real time saver. I think the reason people give this low reviews is that it takes some effort to learn the software. If you have used Microsoft Visio, you shouldn't have any problem with using Home Designer. If you are a novice, the Chief Architect site has lots of tutorials. Be ready to hit the Pause button because the content is provided very quickly. Also you may have to do a little research if you encounter problems. The 3D capabilities of the software overload a system without a 3D video chip. However, the Chief Architect site has very clear instructions on how to adjust the software's setting if 3D views are not displaying. Had the problem, and after making the changes can see all views.

A great product through and through...

This is a great product and if you know anything about most software design programs, including Photoshop, then you'll have an easy time of navigating the tools within this easy to lean software. I do home remodeling as a living and this product has made my job a little easier when it comes to seeing what the project may look like before and after building it in reality. If you love designing your own rooms, or house, etc, then get this wonderful product.

Great product and customer support!

I bought this program to help design my basement finishing project. After playing with it a bit, it is pretty easy to use for my project. It is fun to move walls and drop in furniture and fixtures and then take a look from different views like you are standing in the room. I emailed some questions for customer support and was answered the next morning. I had to call customer support when the program wasn't working right and had the problem worked out immediately. Great product and great customer support! I am very pleased with this purchase.

For the annoying HTGV clients

Bought this for work to take our floor plans and bring them to life. I'm sick of clients saying "well they do that on HGTV". Easy to learn, fun to use.

More than I expected

I will be building a house in the next couple of years. I bought this software to get a better idea of what my house plans could look like. For the money, this far exceeds my expectations. As a non-professional, it does everything I need to do. The 3D views give me a great perspective of what different layouts might actually look like. I use design software at work so I haven't had any problem learning how to use this.

Excellent set of features for the price

Excellent set of features for the price. We used this software to visualize our potential builder's plans. I was able to take his 2D plan and recreate them with Home Designer in a couple of hours.
