Works well, but you're on your own.
Well, it works well once you get the drivers installed correctly. With this unit you're completely on your own. No software, no links, no clue. Be very careful installing the drivers. Research the model number and you'll find numerous pieces of software and YouTube videos covering it. Watch and read before installing drivers. Watch and read before installing drivers. Repeated intentionally. It is fun to play with though. :)

Working great on Raspberry Pi 2 running dump1090-mutability and piaware
Using with a Raspberry Pi 2 running dump1090-mutability and piaware. Out of the box, kalibrate showed it at 0.185 PPM while I saw 7 and 22 ppm on R820T2 dongles without temperature compensation at ambient temperature. System is installed in attic and it sees large temperature swings. Without thoroughly collecting statistics before and after this unit, it's a little tough to tell the impact on performance but anecdotally I appear to have many more MLAT flights. As the warm weather moves in I expect to see much higher temperatures in the attic and hope that the reduced thermal frequency drift will result in better performance.

Great product, for a very great price, but you will need software to go with it
This is awesome!!! Great price for a great product. You have to be a little tech (and radio frequency) savy, but if you purchase this, you will need software to go along with it. rtl-sdr.com is a great website to find projects that you can work on including links to free software.* I have no issues with over-heating, and am able to receive the full advertised spectrum. *As with anything you download from the internet, make sure it is a reputable source and scan it for viruses, etc.

Great SDR Dongle with many uses........
So I purchased this RTL-SDR dongle for a Raspberry Pi project to track Airplane Flights(RTL_TCP/PlanePlotter). This works great with the included Antenna(if you don't have any other high gain antennas) I was able to track Planes at 40,000ft. Over night it had captured around 30 Planes. (I do live within 10 miles of an airport and located smack dab in the middle of the US. An added Bonus was finding a web app in chrome called "Radio Receiver" and it works on my Acer R11 Chromebook. This webapp allows me to tune in Local FM broadcasts as well as a host of other options. You can set the app to "FT" Free Tune and with dongle attached you can tune in your local HAM repeaters across the popular 2m/70cm Bands. (Now I don't use original antenna for this, but a 1/4 wave homebrew antenna. Great for just Monitoring!!!!!!! I may end up purchasing another dongle for when I build my CARpi...........

Premium price, premium product.
This adapter is certainly more pricey than the ones you can buy for a song, but if you're tired of futzing with finicky oscillators, it may be the most cost-effective solution. The TCXO is indeed "rock-solid" and requires 0 ppm of correction over the wide range of temperatures I experience in my pre-war Chicago apartment. The new revision of the 820T tuner also gives me about two more dBFS of dynamic range in the UHF bands I do most of my work in. NooElec was very responsive and a pleasure to do business with. In this case, the trite adage is true: you get what you pay for.

Good product at a great price!
The NESDR Mini 2+ from NooElec works great. I am currently using 2 of them connected to Raspberry Pis to collect ADS-B information for flight aware (PiAware). The units do seem to get a little warm to the touch but not warm enough to cause any concern. These also seem to work well enough for SDR using programs such as Cubic SDR or GQRX SDR (both for Mac) to pick up anything from local Police / Fire / EMS broadcasts to garage door openers in the 315 Mhz range. It also works well for AM/FM radio broadcasts and television. Good product at a great price!

This is the gold standard for SDR radios with higher quality oscillator and lower noise, but beware antenna jack compatibility
This is the gold standard for SDR radios. NooElec, in the Mini 2+ version, is manufactured with higher quality oscillator for stable tuning and lower noise. It's also one of the SDRs with the more performant R820T2 tuner instead of the older R820T. I bought two of them and they are identically perfect. I've successfully decoded broadcast analog audio, audio walkie-talkie, and digital walkie-talkie radios using P25, as well as ADS-B aircraft pings. The receiver bandwidth is selectable to give you a larger waterfall but the higher bandwidth means less audio quality when you select a frequency to tune. If a USB 3.0 version of these SDR radios ever comes out I look forward to super wide waterfalls. The one thing that might cause you problems is that, in spite of its traditional, larger USB dongle size, the antenna connector is the very tiny MCX female jack, so if you're upgrading from another device that uses SMA, be sure to find some converter cables. NooElec has a new model which is a miniaturized version of this hardware but is a little more expensive.

Having tons of fun with this. Don't expect to pull in much with this included antenna though. That's the nature of radio.... it's all in the antenna. I am running it with Linux Mint 18. Sure does work great! To keep drifting down, make sure to get the temperature stabilized oscillator version, which this has.

great receiver at a great price serving variety of uses besides radio including ADSB, smartmeters, easy to use/program
used it for home automation project to read smart meters and adsb (aviation) transponders. it works phenomenally. it is very reliable and easy to use with the public drivers that are available. you can use it to listen to the radio, read transponders from planes, read smart meters (electric, gas, water). make sure you take this type, that is slightly more expensive but has a more robust crystal for better fine tuning into the frequency and remain in lock.

Plan on AND order an EXTERANL antenna.
Product arrived on time and as described by the seller. For the beginner this device may look intimidating but looks can be deceiving. There are plenty of instructional videos on you tube and the sellers website to have you up and running in no time! As a veteran amateur radio operator of 20 years this is a little bit of a throw back though. The technology is not new by any means. For someone who's looking to get their toes wet in the world of radio frequencies, this little device can get you started nicely. There's also a slew of software out there to use to play with your new SDR dongle so you're not stuck with just one choice. You will most certainly want to use some type of external antenna ( just be sure to pay attention to the connector end ) and mount it as high as possible and away from any electrical wires to risk of shock and help isolate noise. All in all it's an excellent device for the price and I am very happy with it. No negative issues t all.
