Best reasonably priced battery powered Wi-Fi thermostat!
After installation, the thermostat updated and lost the Wi-Fi signal. I reset the unit and regained the connection. In addition, it took a minute for me to get all the setting to where I was comfortable with it. I prefer not to use the scheduling, which seemed like the default setting. It is much better for me to use the fixed setting since we are a four-person household with different schedules. I did not like how the unit came packaged. There was no plastic wrapping around the unit itself or batteries. This gives the impression that you are not buying a new product. It is a better looking thermostat than most on the market. However, it could have a better feel to it. Overall, it is just a thermostat. I ordered black, which I think, looks more stylish. The optional back plate adds a nice look. The screen is a little retro. Maybe that’s what they were going for since the Nest looks like a digital 1950’s dial thermostat. It offers all the features I wanted. For example, option to use strictly batteries, controlled through Wi-Fi, and a lock out feature (wish it was password protected). The geofencing is a nice touch. Therefore, I ordered a second one for the upstairs. You can’t beat the price for all the features it has to offer. I have friends that purchased the Nest. Some of them are annoyed with it. Moreover, I think the prices are a little outrageous for the other Wi-Fi thermostats on the market. Update-mine works with Amazon Echo without the C wire hooked up

Highly recommend if you need a wi-fi enabled thermostat! Price was the best for the features you get!
Love it! Was free with ComEd Rebate program. Nest and Ecobees seems nice, but even with a rebate they were another $150 for features I would never use! Like that I was able to run this using batteries. A lot of smart thermostats require a power source and the small ac unit I have doesn't have a power line to the thermostat. You can also plug it into an outlet instead if so desired. Would rather just replace the battery once a year, but that's just me. The app is pretty basic, but honestly besides scheduling, checking the temp, and adjusting the temp from anywhere in the world, what more do you need it to do! Also I like that you can have two of these in a house and control them separately. I have a steam boiler in the basement, and seperate A/C unit in the attic, so that was essential that the app doesn't have issues with two separate units in the same network. Comes in black also and can be mounted vertical as well which I liked.

LOVE ….LOVE….LOVE my GEO!
I Love my thermostat!! My 11 year old digital finally quit displaying the temperature, which meant it had to be manually turned on and off. I picked this one because it allowed me to adjust it from a phone app and the price was much lower then other ones that did the same thing as the GEO. I planned on someone helping me change it but after a month of it sitting in the box I decided to do it myself. I turned all the power off and started reading the instructions.(which I hate) I made sure to take a picture of the wires inside the old one just as it stated in the instructions. It did prove to come in handy. It took me 20-30 min max and to my amazement it actually worked once I turned the power back on. My only suggestion is DONT try doing this in the middle of a hot summer day! Once I took mine apart I realized if something went wrong I'd now be without AC when it was a 105 out. I love being able to adjust the temp from my phone from where ever I'm at!! LOVE IT!! Besides the GEO has a 3 year warranty.

I love this termostat!
Pros: are it can be used with millivolt or 12 volt RV furnace. no external power required and yes it can be remotely activated from smart phone or alexa. If using batteries there is a 15 minute lag between remote commands and thermostat due to it's efficiency battery saving 15 minute wifi pings to server online. I love it and recommend this in a RV or Truck Camper OR any kinda non residential AC electrical installs. Cons: if you have a C wire or other traditional residential AC electricity supplies there are other options such as nest which have more features. overall I love this thermostat and highly recommend this for older 2 wire millivolt or 12 volt DC systems. If I power it via micro USB remote commands are more instantaneous.

Great Thermostat with Lots of Customization and a Great App
This is certainly not one of the big name Wi-Fi thermostats, but it should be. While the screen is not the prettiest, this thermostat is more customizable than others and has a great smartphone app to boot. I have shown this thermostat and the app to several friends that have competitors costing twice as much and they are like "dude, your thermostat rocks compared to mine!" Installation was pretty straight-forward for our 1-stage HVAC system. It took me about 30 minutes total. I like that a wall plate was included, because my wife did not paint under the old thermostat and we would have seen the old color on the walls. Connection to the home network was easy, and programming the temperature schedule was rather straight-forward. There are several features on the thermostat that are customizable and can only be accessed through the thermostat. One of them is differential, which is the swing between when the HVAC turns on and off. A lot of the new thermostats will not allow you to adjust this. We had a Honeywell and the "smart" thermostat tries to keep the house at a temperature +/- 0.25 degrees from the setting. This means the HVAC is constantly on and off, on and off. It is not only inefficient, but causes a lot of wear on your HVAC unit. We set the differential to +/-1, but it can go up to +/-3. We found +/-1 keeps the house pretty constant in temperature and does not constantly run the HVAC. The app for this thermostat is awesome! We love the radius feature, which automatically changes the programmed temperature when all the phones linked to the thermostat are outside the radius. That distance is customizable. When one phone enters the radius, the HVAC returns to the normal schedule. I also like that the app shows the house temperature and how long and when the HVAC runs. Be sure to use a Lithium battery in the thermostat if you don't have a C-wire. If you use Alkaline, the thermostat works, but warns you that you don't have a Lithium battery. Overall, this is a great thermostat, and I highly recommend it.

Good thermostat for the money
What's good: 1. Easy installation. Once the wires are connected and batteries are in, everything else is done through the phone app. (Which means I can sit and did not have to stand on the hallway staring at the thermostat the entire time). The setup using the app is easy to follow. All in all it took me 45 minutes, (including uninstalling the old thermostat). 2. The phone app works and easy to use. Scheduling, geofencing, all works as advertised. No need to go around turning the heat down before leaving the house anymore. 3, Compatible with my outdated furnace when other wifi thermostats aren't. It is battery operated, so even if my system does not have the wiring for power source, it can still work. (My system is an old gas furnace, low voltage with two wires: red (R) and white (W). See photo.) 4. The wall unit is easy to operate. Non-technical family members find the rotating dial easy to use and they can operate the wall unit without having to read any manual. 5. No touchscreen, and for once that is a good thing for me. No fingerprints to clean. The younger family members initially complained about the lack of touch, only to find out that rotating the wheel is much easier to do. What can be improved: 1. It ain't small. I uploaded a photo comparing it to my old one. Not much improvement from the size point of view. It is nice that a back plate is included, so I can cover the holes on the wall left behind by the old thermostat. But on a non-white wall, the plate makes the thermostat look even bigger. I wish the unit was a little smaller. 2. The display reminds me of an old Nokia phone I had years ago. I won't say ugly, but it ain't fancy. But then again, when the scheduling and the geofencing is in place, I probably won't need to come near the thermostat as often anyway so not much need for a nicer display. However, some family members did make fun of it so I can understand if some will find the display rather unappealing. All in all, it is a good thermostat and I am happy with it. It is a good alternative for those who don't feel like spending their money on the fancy one (you know which one I am talking about!), but still want the wifi capability and the control through app.

Works WITHOUT c-wire - yay!
The LuxGEO has FOUR (count them, 4) different ways to supply power AND it comes with 2 of the 4 options. That, right there, is a big, big plus when looking for smart thermostats. Obviously, one can use the c-wire if they have it (that's the 1st way to power it and it's already in your wall - maybe). No c-wire? No problem. Use the handy 2-part adapter that comes in the box. Hook the larger box up to your HVAC on one end and the little wire splitter on the thermostat end and you're golden (that's the 2nd power source and they INCLUDE IT). What? your HVAC is on the roof? You don't have a ladder? No worries. Dig out your old phone charger and a usb cable and plug that puppy into the wall (#3, but it's not included). Oh dear, there's not an outlet nearby? Fine, use the included batteries (#4, there's really no way to mess this up!). Yay! Not to mention the app - the app is really well done. You can control the complete thermostat (including locking your roommate who doesn't pay the electricity out from changing the settings) from the app. And, as a bonus, the app has a great "history" feature that lets you see your how much energy your system is using. That's a win. Finally, you want Alexa to control your wifi? "Hey, Alexa, set temperature to...." Yep, it will do that, too. They encourage you to use one of the permanent powered options for that because it will burn through batteries pretty quickly but, hey, it works. Bottom line, I much prefer the ease of the Lux GEO to the other smart thermostat I've installed (Honeywell Smart Color). The app is better, the power supply issue is easier, the design is nice, and it's $50 bucks less. Hey, that's a win!

Easy install, Works like charm, Reasonably priced.
Wow, it's wonderful. I was looking for wifi thermostat for my house and weekend house. Nest thermostat was recommended to me by an electrician but was a bit expensive for my taste. Then I came across this unit for about $115 during the thanksgiving time from Amazon. I'm not an electrician and far from it. It took me about 20 mins for taking the old thermostat out and installing this new one. Very good instruction. I didn't even shut off the circuit breaker. I didn't get electrocuted. Just make sure you labeled the each wires with enclosed wire tabs and connect to the same ports on new thermostat. Syncing with your home wifi router is also a very easy step with good instructions. Now I control my home thermostat with my iPhone from work or whenever we're away for family vacation. I loved it so much and I bought another unit for my weekend home and installed it. Oh one more thing, their tech support is quite good. I had some questions prior to initial purchase, I was able to SPEAK to them via phone very easily and also very quick correspondences via emails. Don't spend extra money on more expensive units and buy GEO.

Geofence not working - for awhile, but fixed now.
I do like this thermostat. It keeps a very even temperature, is easy to program, runs on batteries if there is no C wire, looks good, easy to install. However, I cannot get the geofencing to work. I did have it working at first, although not exactly as it should. With two identical phones it should go into away mode when both are outside the fence, and turn off away mode when both return. I had it working when both phones were together. I had both phones logging into the same account. Tech support recommended I create a separate account for one of the phones so that there are two separate accounts, one for each phone. Since then the geofencing does not work at all. Tech support has made several suggestions but none have worked so far (change phone name, clear cache, reinstall the app on both phones). I am waiting for a response now but this has been going for weeks now. C'mon this can't be too hard. Please get one of your software engineers on this and let's get it resolved, so I can change the rating to five stars! 1/21/2019: We finally got it working. It seems that the deciding factor was to set the battery usage to 'high' (I forget what they called it, but it uses up the battery the fastest). So now that the geofencing is working I can increase the stars. Thanks tech support - you did your job.

One of the Very Best connected Thermostats!
One of the Very Best connected Thermostats! It seems like everyone is getting into the connected thermostat business. Big Guys. Little Guys. Many that not one has ever heard of before. I've used Lux Thermostats for more than 20 years. They have always been priced right and worked without issue. So, I was glad to give these a try. My Wish list: Connected; no subscription. Check! iOS App and web access. Check! Auto switch Cooling and Heating. Check! Flexible programming. Check! 'Refresh' fan selection ( 'Clean Cycle' in LuxTalk). Check! Easy User overrides that revert back to program operation automatically. Check! Easy to swallow price point. Check! Better than I had hoped: Simple option when system has no "C Wire'. Check!!! Available in Black or White housing. Check! Amazing system statistic reports. Check!!!!! Super fast connection with iOS app. Check Geo Fencing (although I have't used this) What I still wish for: Current system and fan operation status display on app main screen. (Something like: System: Furnace: Running - Fan: 'Clean Cycle") Ability to select fan setting separately for each time period. ( You may want to use 'Clean Cycle' at day and 'Auto' at night. Ability to bump target temp in Auto mode (help file alludes that this may be coming) The 'wished for' items are probably just software upgrades. I am using this in an office where the chronic complaints about the climate controls are now a distant memory. I'll be buying more. The Battery operation when no C-wire is present is what really separates this from the pack.
