It's worth the money!!

I can't speak to durability yet - just received the product. Delighted with this. It performs as advertised, and was extremely well packaged for shipping. It is a GENUINE APPLE drive Has the logo permanently affixed to the underside of the drive. My best advice for Mac users is to not try buying a less expensive drive like I did...it was poorly packaged and didn't work when it arrived. Nuts to that news! So glad I now have an Apple product!

Go to the source / beware off-brands

Got a new iMac a few months ago, without the built-in DVD / CD player. Tried several "other maker" versions; none of them worked well, and one jammed the DVD so I had to take it apart to get it out. Scrapped these and "went to the source" to get the proper Apple version; it works perfectly - so well I'm going to get a "spare - just in case..."

Why do you need to ask??

Sorry, I have two 15" MacBook Pros by accident because on was infected with malware, which prompted the purchase of the second exact same computer. The superdrive works great for me. having the 15" screen is easy on the eyes. I ended up having two of each because I could use my miraculously cured first computer to back up things while at the same time i watch a movie using the other set of equipment!

Make sure that you have it right side (plain aluminum) up and not Apple logo side up.

I am happy with mine and ordered one for my dad. I spent an hour on the phone with him because the new one kept spitting disks back out. A useful tidbit to be aware of if you are trying to help someone with the same problem is to make sure that the superdrive is right side (plain aluminum) up and the black side with the Apple logo is on the bottom. Someone might naturally assume that the logo should be on the top.

Necessary Addition

Arrived today and I was able to use it without tearing my hair out as is usually the case with any additions or changes to my iMac. I still think it is foolish for Apple to eliminate these players from new machines thus requiring a separate purchase but such is the way of the world these days. I did purchase the insurance coverage because of some bad reviews. So time will tell if I got a good one or not.

Excellent!

This product is great being that it is an Apple product. Don’t mind the other reviews.. I was skeptical at first, but it was the Apple superdrive. You don’t hear a thing. The drive isnt noisy and is very light. Easy to carry around! I would suggest anyone to buy. It is pricey, but make sure if you have an updated MacBook Pro like me (2017 touchbar) that you purchase an apple adapter, so you can hook up the USB to the adapter. I have read that other adapters don’t work with this unless you have the Apple adapter, but anyway PURCHASE! It’s a must have!

The Apple Logo needs to be on the bottom.

This was ten dollars less here at Amazon than what Apple charges at the store. We have all things Apple if we can. This was super easy, plug/play. Thankfully I read the reviews and remembered that one reviewer mentioned that it is upside down if you have the Apple logo showing on top. My spouse was trying to use it that way. Turn it over so the silver side is up. It is very slim and compact. Plays and burns disk efficiently. No problems so far. We were dismayed that a disk slot isn't on the new iMac desktops. We recently upgraded our desktop and found this out. It doesn't take that much room to provide one for those that want to watch their DVD movies or view/listen to CDs they already own. Now the customer is forced to purchase something like this to do so, or to stream video and music if you don't ... bummer.

Necessary Purchase =)

Arrived today and am already loving it! I've had my MacBook Air for at least 2 years and this was a much needed upgrade. I hated to pay the money for it as I do feel this is something that should already be included, but that's a different story for another time. I was not expecting this item to arrive until Monday, but I received it on today, a Saturday.. so I really appreciated that. The product, itself, has been pretty awesome so far. I originally bought it for things like installing a printer ect, but I have tried out it's burning capabilities and am really enjoying it. One more thing, I do wish the cord was a little longer as I do not have a desk, but I am able to work around it either way.

Works effortlessly, right out the box

Having used one at work for a few years without any problems, I ordered one for my home computer system. It arrived promptly and extremely well packaged. I attached it to a USB port on my new MacBook Pro (it won't work connected to a USB hub), and within minutes I was listening to an audio CD and viewing a video DVD. If your newer Mac lacks a disc drive, get this light and slim external Apple Superdrive. It works like a charm.
