Good price but buyer beware
We had to have these and smoke detectors upgraded and installed since we had a fire caused by lightning strike. The city inspector noted new city code (smoke detector in every bedroom, CO in the common area of each floor & within 15 ft of an attached garage entry door). OK, no problem. ...jeez, these things are expensive. Turns out it depends on the model you buy. The cheapest model also happens to have the shortest warranty of five years. Practically the same model with a 7 year warranty is almost double the price, and a model with a 10 year warranty is more than double the price. Since we plan on selling in 5 years, you do the math. The specs don't emphasize the warranty life, and all you need is a CO detector.

Get a CO detector now, unless you have an all electric home
just installed two of these today. very easy install on the wall, similar to battery powered smoke detectors. however getting the battery installed is another story. a couple of tips: 1. the 9 volt battery is VERY difficult to install. it's easy to make contact, but getting it to 'snap' into place, not so easy. i suggest placing it in the recess and then using a large diameter ball point pin/dowel rod etc. to push on the battery until you hear/feel two solid clicks to indicate that BOTH terminal have seated. otherwise, you may not have a good connection. 2. the battery access door is VERY difficult to open. suggest you use a very small flat blade screwdrive to gently pry the door open. it is very flimsy and looks like it could easily be damaged. 3. i almost forgot- the units i received did NOT have an installation template. so i made my own. take a small piece of paper and place on the back of the unit. use a pencil to mark the centerline of the mounting holes. then place the paper on the wall and use a nail or other sharp object to mark the wall for drilling. note the centerline distance is about 3.5 inches.

Good, quantifiable reading.
I bought this because we have a carbon monoxide detector but it is only an alarm. It fired one time so I shut everything down, ventilated the house and then cautiously restarted everything. It didn't go off again that season but I was concerned so I purchased this one so I could get an actual readout. This alarm confirmed that the CO levels were rising but not long enough or high enough to set off the alarm unless it was particularly cold and the furnace ran for a long time. We now have a new furnace with a confirmed crack in the heat-exchanger of the old one.

Perfect
Seems to be working great and I love the fact you don’t have to change batteries or anything for 10 years and it lets you know when it’s low. After that you have to replace the unit but I went threw more batteries in the previous detector to buy 2 of these in 10 years so I think it’s great. I took it out by the exhaust of my pellet stove to test it and it works great. It also tells you at what level the co2 was so you can tell them at the hospital so they know the best way to treat you. A bonus is it also has te temperature in the house or wherever you place unit.

Works great! We installed it on our 35' Sea Ray
Works great! We installed it on our 35' Sea Ray. I left the cabin door open as we were motoring, maybe 15 knots, and the alarm went off. My dog was in the cabin. My husband opened the the forward porthole which provided air flow thru the cabin and problem solved!

Saved my life
Installed as soon as they arrived to replace older models that the batteries had expired in (7 year batteries and no maintenance or replacement option). These do have batteries that have to be or can be replaced. The 2nd night after installation, the detector I had mounted in my bedroom (installed all 6 throughout my house) went off around 2:00 AM and awakened me. I immediately shut my gas furnace down and called a HVAC company. They found a crack in my heat exchanger as well as issue with the flue or exhaust pipe that was allowing CO to enter my home. Had I not replaced my CO detectors when I did, I wouldn't be writing this review now. Well worth my investment!! Easy installation and had all 6 up and operating in less than 30 minutes as well as reasonably priced. Purchased this pack of 6 for less that the other 2 I had bought 7 years ago.

This device saved my 4 kids lives and mine
Saved me and my 4 kids lives! I bought this as a backup for my expensive 200 dollar one that connected to my home alarm system. I bought it because I was going to put it upstairs by the heater. Well it went off in the middle of the night and we left the house and called the police. They showed up and tested us, we had to be given oxygen from hospital! Myself and the baby (1 year) had the highest levels and needed treatment. This device saved my 4 kids lives and mine. I do not think 5 stars are enough.

Consider taking one when you travel
The device seems well made. I can't verify whether it actually works as we have not had any carbon monoxide leaks that I know of. However, First Alert has a good reputation. This is one kind of purchase I would not want to trust to an unknown brand. I think I am going to order one of these to carry with us when we travel. There have been too many stories about tragedies in hotels and rentals where carbon monoxide ended up being the culprit. You can make sure your own home is well maintained, but who knows what might be blocking the vent in your hotel. These are easy to pack into a suitcase, and it might lend a bit of peace of mind to the traveler.

Best & easiest
My wife is a ceramicist, and carbon monoxide is a real threat from the gas kiln. This is super easy to use, and we like that it can be placed anywhere you want, that it is not dependent on an electrical outlet. We left it for the new owners when we moved, so we bought another. I think that having it also function as a thermometer is great, because it lets you know that the unit is still working, and encourages us to do to keep it in a place where you can see it easily.

Manufacture date April 2018
The first thing I did when I received my First Alert CO710 Carbon Monoxide Detector with 10-Year Battery and Digital Temperature Display is look at the date of manufacture, which was April 2018. It's currently August 2018 so that is good! It's a very versatile unit that can be mounted or simply set on a shelf. In California, when you get a new hvac system you need to have a city inspector come to your house. That inspector will require homes to have a smoke detector in every bedroom, plus carbon monoxide detectors on each floor. This First Alert unit should satisfy the inspector and it also gives me a way to monitor the temperature in the room where I spend the most time. Be aware that the reviews for this product may be for an older unit that has replaceable batteries. The First Alert CO710 Carbon Monoxide Detector with 10-Year Battery and Digital Temperature Display does NOT have a battery door and the user cannot replace the batteries.
