Works great!
The BaseCamp B.O.S.S. XB13 is the first and only hot water shower system that is powered by D-Cell batteries, which in turn gains the CS safety certification. Simply hookup your water source, a propane cylinder and you have hot water readily available even in the remotest of wild places. It’s perfect for backpackers and longterm campers who either wish to shower regularly or to simply clean your dishes with ease. What’s so striking about this entry level design is that it’s cordless, portable, and relatively light weight, so even if you wish to backpack into the wilderness for awhile before setting up camp, you’re not overburdening yourself. The XB13 is made strong with a metal housing that is durable and built to last. It’s matchless electronic pulse ignition provides a reliable and safe option, so that when you need it, you’re only moments away from hot water. Each unit has a built-in scald protection, tip switch and flow driven ignition. Plus, it’s simple to work the XB13, as all you have to do is insert your D-Cell batteries into the included power pack, hook up your hose to a water source, plug in your shower head, then flip the ignition switch, dial the temperature based on your own preference, and that’s it! How cool is that?!

I am a believer
Purchased this as a temporary measure while I was doing a total rehab to a 100 year old house I purchased. I hoped to need it for 3-6 months but actually used it for almost two years as my main shower. The Mr. Heater Boss-XB13 has never given me one problem. I live in Massachusetts and even in the dead of winter when a bit chilly in the house (before permanent heating system installed) this thing was never put on more than medium heat setting or I would have been burned. In the beginning I was burning through D size batteries until I purchased EBL rechargeable batteries and now I go 2 weeks before a charge. I cant wait to actually use this for camping use one of these days too. All I can say is don't hesitate to purchase this system if you are looking for a solid system at a reasonable price.

5 day camping trip
Worked great on a 5 day camping trip with no electric around. We used a second battery pump to pull water from the creek into a 10gal igloo cooler, then let this take over from there. Handled 30 people a day

Don't waste your money on the more expensive models.
Don't waste your money on the more expensive models. All you have to do with this one is put the water pump on/off button under the corner of your shower and turn it on/off with your foot to conserve water. Also, use the old school shower bags to prewarm your water just enough to take the chill off and then add to the water reservoir for your BOSS. You'll have a steamy hot shower that you can control without the need of someone else turning the water on and off for you.

Works as advertised
Mime is to be here tomorrow so haven't gotten to play with it just yet but I can share my logic with why I choose this model rather the fancy dancey ones with a rechargeable and all the bells and whistles. After spending a couple hours reading reviews on Amazon even some sporting goods websites I concluded that any differences between all 3 models were minor and all three were very similar except for one difference. The BOSS-XW18 and the BOSS-XCW20 have a rechargeable battery that lasts 40 minutes and takes 4 hours to recharge. The BOSS-XB13 uses 4 d-cells and also claims to run 40 minutes on a set. All three make simulator temperature claims of raising the temp of the incoming water on average about a 35 degrees over the incoming water. I may be using a little bit of liberty here, bad memory...I'm old, but it really doesn't matter. Point they all three claim similar performance. Only real difference is which battery you want...lithium ion or d-calls. I live in Colorado we lost hot water for two weeks last winter. Learned my lesson. This will be my back up hot shower if ever need be. My tap water is around 50 degrees F so I would have to preheat the water to a comfortable level. I don't worry about running out of propane it is battery power that worries me. Anybody after me doing the same preheat may run the lithium battery down and it takes 4 hours to recharge. However with the BOSS-XB13 I just put in another set of d-cells and the cleanliness\dishwashing\cleaning can continue. They all 3 do about the same so I thought why not go for extended abilities. Whether or not I ever need it I take comfort knowing I can keep going when the fancier ones are recharging.I ever need to. I will update this after I play with my toy UPDATE Works as advertised. took it to the lake and heated water in a bucket to wash our picnic dishes with and it worked like a charm. .

Worked great for our needs. If you don't have access to power, this is the choice for you.
