Gift for the Grandparents

This made a great "grandparents" gift. I use the app on my phone to easily send pictures of the kids' activities. There is a little bit of setup involved, which isn't too difficult, but if the grandparents are not at all tech-savvy, then you may need to help them. When you send photos from your phone, you can also label them, which is a nice added feature. It would be great for anyone who lives far away from loved ones. So far, we haven't used up our storage, and there have been NO additional charges for using the frame. I'm glad I made the purchase.

My wife and I wanted to get picture frames for both sets of parents that we could upload photos to while out and about. Other digital photo frames in the past essentially became static devices that required you to remove the SD card and upload photos manually. Unfortunately, we don't live in a world anymore where we are storing our snapshots on PCs and transferring them to SD cards. The NixPlay seed was the perfect solution. Photos can be uploaded to the frame by the owner or invited "friends" of the owner. Frame setup is easy - upon initial power-up it displays discovered WiFi networks and you can input the PSK using the included remote - the frame then displays it's activation code. You then go to the NixPlay website and create an account, and then add the frame to the account. Once the frame is activated, you can start adding pictures to it either using photos from a local library on your PC, linking from popular social media platforms, or by getting the NixPlay app from the Android or Apple App Store and uploading photos that way. One important detail that I was not able to find until I went through setup the first time is that you can completely set up the frame by creating a free Nixplay account using your own email, get some photos on it, and then after the frame has been gifted and set up for your recipient - the account can then be transferred to the frame's new owner. This is handy as you don't want to create an account for someone who you may be gifting the frame to using their email - they'll get a Nixplay welcome message, and you won't be able to confirm the account. (I could not find this information anywhere - so I wanted to make sure that it was out there somewhere.) On the Nixplay 10, the picture quality is maybe a 6 out of 10. If I understand correctly, the native resolution is 1024x768, so if you can - resize your photos to the native resolution for best results. Larger photos will not be scaled by Nixplay, but the frame will move the photo around so most / all of the photo is displayed during it's on screen duration. It does detect orientation automatically, and I thought we'd end up using the frame in landscape mode most of the time, but portrait actually seems to work better with most photos. Others have mentioned that the power cord/connector being part of the stand for the frame is troublesome - with both frames we purchased and gifted we did not find this to be the case. If I could make one change to the frame - it would be to use a better display. Display technology has gotten so much better in the past few years - a nice high-res OLED display would be outstanding and worth a few bucks more to me. Overall - if you want to have that gift that you know someone will use all the time and get the big reaction at your birthday/holiday - this is it. Fill it full of sentimental photos and you're well on the way to getting the waterworks going for the recipient!

Wanna save time money and frustration.. Get this Seed Picture Frame or a larger one, the Cloud app is great !

I took a tip from support and created an account to play around with the albums/ playlists and iOS/ Picasa app and e-mailing attachments all with the cloud account several days before receiving the frame so when it came I was able to pair it and publish a bunch of those picts and test it out within a few minutes. I'm very impressed with the ease of use on-line and thru the Remote. Its image quality is fine and I'm very happy with almost everything. Right now it's sitting in Gift Wrap under the tree all set for my wife to plug it back in and see the 100+ photos I put on it. ( btw that's less than 1% or 2 % full of the 6 GBytes in the frame. I think Its a Great Way to save thousands of dollars on Printers and ink.. not to mention frustrating hours printing and mounting /mailing/and stuffing picts into hard copy albums no one ever looks at but once in a blue moon. I may not be able to cure her of that addiction but I can hope she likes this format too. If not I know several others in our remote family certainly will, and she can just give it someone who'll love it if she doesn't. I also know I can un-pair it ( losing all the initial photos as I do) but then we will repair it under her own new e-mail /password and web login account so she can manage it all if she wants to. Its not clear on the site but you can not only select specific playlists to publish to each different frame but can see and control which f these playlists are displayed while the picts are in frame memory too. That's very cool. The only thing that annoys me so far is that I can't delete individual Photos.. but I think that's minor compared to all the great things it can do like accept and auto-display way more than 10 photos sent as attachments to the username@mynixplay.com e-mail account in the frame, And, tho I don't know all it can do yet.. I've seen enough to know this will be a BIG Hit in our family.. I've ordered 4 so far and am hoping we all ultimately get one at some point cause we have smartphones and GoPros and point and shoot picts up the wazoo and I hate printing these just to stow 'em away forever in a hard copy photo album on a shelf. I can't get enough of these frames!

I just bought this frame for my Dad, but this is actually my 5th Nixplay WiFi Digital frame and clearly I love them! The display is bright and crisp, but the best parts are the many options you have via the Nixplay website. You can add up to 5 frames to one account and create different albums which can then be uploaded to Playlists. These playlists can then be "published" to one or all of your frames so you can really personalize what you want to display. I utilized these playlists to upload special pictures of my Dad including one we had taken that day which just impressed the heck out of him. I also like the colors the frame offers along with the fact that it works in both landscape and portrait mode. Lastly, the power cord design works well too. You get 10GB of online storage per account which is plenty for me. You can also control various settings like transitions, sleep time, etc from their website as well. There is an iPhone app that allows you to upload pictures to your playlists which I have used many times already. You can also connect social media platforms, but I have yet to try this. I am beyond impressed with the frame quality and excellent customer service and would highly recommend this to anyone.

I first purchased this frame in 2014. It was super easy to set up and I have the app on my phone and iPad which makes it super easy to update with new pictures, even from the other side of the world. I have been researching a digital frame as a gift for a family member and I have to say, after reading until my eyeballs hurt, I really can't find another digital frame that is any better than this one, so I will be gifting ANOTHER one of these. (I've previously gifted this frame to other family members, too.) The simplicity, picture quality and the app make it simply the best. I've owned other brands, i.e., Kodak. Does not compare to this one. The only reason I researched other brands was because I wanted to make sure it was up to date technologically. This one is. I love the options that the app offers, too, like captions, color adjustments, motion sensor settings, etc.

Amazing for Seniors

This frame has made my Mother-in-law so happy! She is 82 and always enjoyed looking at family on my Facebook and pictures stored on my phone. I ordered this and set up tge account with the Nixplay app on my phone. Then i invited family to send her a few pictures. Then i put it all back in the box and was she surprised! She told me it was the best gift she had ever gotten. Now they xan send her photos she woykd otherwise have never saw. She feels included. The little remote is easy for her to use. And she keeps it positioned that it wakes up when she sits in her chair so she wont miss new additions. The cord/stand is the only flaw but using the two velcro straps that hold the cord wrapped in the box I easily secured a pretty sturdy loop with them and there has been no issue at all. Screen resolution is very clear. Of course the sharpness of the photo sent is a huge factor. But all in all I am very happy with this frame. I plan pn getting the very same one for my Dad's 89th Birthday.

Great frame and great company

UPDATE: Upping to 5 stars (from 4) because I am really enjoying the frame overall the issues I mentioned aren't worth docking 1 star. I bought one of these the first day it was available for sale and I was initially disappointed. The frame did not perform like the W08A I had purchased. However, after the the software update I received 5/8/2014 (version 1.7), it seems to be working well and I am now very happy with the frame, and I even ordered a 2nd one! I have 3 suggestions for the frame. 1) Slideshows need a random playback option, and from what I read on their support forums, this is in the works. 2) I would like to be able to configure a DND time period, where the frame is asleep and the motion sensor is disabled. The reason for that is that I have one frame in my bedroom and don't want it kicking on during the night for any reason (and I am too lazy to turn it on/off manually everyday). 3) I would like higher resolution screen (comparable to a retina iPhone's PPI). I'd actually edit my rating to 5 stars if the first 2 are addressed. Also, this frame has VESA mounting holes underneath a slip cover on the back. Their product description does not mention that like it does for their non-cloud frame. Finally, NIX seems like a great company that stands behind their products. The unit I ordered had one bad pixel, and after I contacted NIX, I had a new (perfect) frame in my hands the next day.

Great product, very easy to use!

I've seen these on the desks of people at work for a few years and finally decided to get one. During my research I was thrilled to learn that not only were the screens much larger then I had seen, but some of them had Wi-Fi. I liked what I read about NixPlay and if I don't like it, returns are easy with Amazon. Well I bought 2 frames, the 15 inch and the 12 inch and I am keeping them both. They are huge! My only regret is that I didn't buy the 8 inch frame as well which I have since ordered. I will have the 15 inch in the living room, 12 inch in the bedroom and 8 inch at work. Setup was really easy with the quick start guide. I had both frames up and running with a handful of pictures I quickly uploaded to my account on the website. First I created an empty album on the website, then uploaded pictures to that album. Next you create a slideshow and add one or more albums to that slideshow. Then you add one or more slideshows to a photo frame. I haven't quite figured out the benefit of slideshows just yet as it seems like an extra layer that isn't needed. I plan to mount the frames to the wall at the house. It uses metric machine screws #4 by 12 and I bought ones about 1/2 inch long. I slide off the square plate on back. You have to nudge it around until you get it to come off (plastic tabs on the back of the plate are in some holes). Now it looks like you could put one or two screws into the wall and then set the frame over those screws and push it down to lock it in place. You could also buy a mounting frame like they have for flat screen TVs. I plan two use my screws to put in the mounting plate holes on the back of the frame, leaving them sticking out some, wrap picture frame wire around the screws and then hang it on the wall. I have set my frames so that they power off if there isn't motion after 5 minutes. You can set it for higher time amounts too. The remote control works great and since I will be mounting this close to the TV in the living room, I like that I can use the remote to turn the frame off. If I'm watching a movie and don't want it to pop on when someone moves around. There is a slot in the back of the frame to store the remote but I plan to keep it with my other remotes. I did try Facebook and while I don't have a lot of pictures on Facebook that aren't already on my computer, what was cool was I could grab pictures from my friends on Facebook and add them to an album. I think the quality that Facebook stores photos at is lower because they don't look as good as the ones from my computer. Speaking of quality, you have two settings, upload the full image size, or an optimized size. I have been using optimized so far and they look good enough for the casual event pictures I have loaded so far like Mothers Day. When I upload more formal shots I plan to try out the full size option. Since some pictures are landscape and some are portrait, my initial plan was to have all my landscape pictures on the 15 inch frame and portrait on the 12 inch frame. I have since changed my mind. The frames are so large that I don't really need to maximize them like I thought. You can set it to either full screen or fit to screen I believe and I like fit to screen. Fit to screen seems to show the full image where the full screen will crop photos to use the entire screen. The frames do have a USB port and memory card port but to be honest, with Wi-Fi, I don't know that I will ever use those features. If my Wi-Fi is ever down, the frame will just play the pictures that were last downloaded from the cloud. I imagine that as soon as my parents see this I will be buying a frame for them and the cool thing is I can send different photos to different frames. I can send the same slideshow to multiple frames or different frames. I have been wanting a digital frame for years but am glad I waited because I think the nixplay frame has everything I could ever want in a frame. Highly recommend!

I absolutely love it!

I recently (almost two months ago) purchased a 10" Nixplay Seed digital photo frame to replace my 8" Sony digital frame that I absolutely adored. Well, the Nixplay Seed has exceeded my expectations! I absolutely love it!! It was easy to set up and the picture quality is excellent. I use both the motion sensor and timer feature. The timer was an absolute must for me but the motion sensor definitely compliments that feature. And from now on, another must have feature is uploading/sharing photos over WiFi. It is extremely easy to add or change photos over WiFi instead of transferring them to a USB or a memory card. Since it is so easy, I've been doing it frequently instead of once every 4-5 months. I did have to contact customer service for assistance with photo sharing using the Google Photos and Nixplay apps on two android devices and the Seed frame. The service I received from Tom to resolve the issue was outstanding! He was always prompt with a reply, patient and courteous. And yes, the issue was resolved. I definitely recommend the Nixplay Seed digital photo frame.

Bought as a gift, got jealous, now buying my own!

We gave this to my father today for his birthday and the whole family already loves it. We all share photos via iCloud photo stream, but my father doesn’t own a smartphone and can barely operate a microwave, so he either has to rely on my mother, or miss out completely. This frame is literally the perfect gift, not only for him, but for anyone looking for a digital frame. I see some negative reviews claiming that it’s too difficult to use, but I’m guessing those people are like my father. The best part about this frame is that you can let everyone else do the uploading, and you just sit back and enjoy the show. Within minutes I had his frame set up, and my sisters and I downloaded the app and started sending photos to the frame. As an added bonus, you can add captions and even send videos. What’s great is that whenever someone sends a new photo, the frame notifies you in real time. On the opposite end, uploading and sending photos is lightning fast. When you set the frame up, you can invite friends to share their photos. You can even assign each person a default album, which is what we did. Photos of my son go directly to an album named after him, while each of my sisters uploads go to albums named after their kids. No filltering through the photos, or wasting time having to select an album. No lie, within 10 minutes of setting it up, my sister and I had each uploaded about 100 photos. The app works like any other sharing platform. You can either open the camera, or go right to you iPhone’s album and select 100 pictures. Long story short, it’s quite literally the perfect gift gift for non-computer saavy parents. For those who have iPhones and use the iCloud shared albums with family and friends, it’s the same concept in a frame. Plus you get motion sensors, transitions, a sleek design and landscape/portrait settings. I was so impressed by it (and jealous) that I just added the same frame to my cart. Just debating right now whether or not to get the 10.1 Widescreen version, which is $30 cheaper for some reason that I need to do some research on. And once I get mine, I’ll be able to use some of the advance features, like syncing my google photos albums directly to the frame and using Alexa. All in all, the quality is great, videos look awesome, the frame is modern looking, and I had zero issues with the app after playing around with it for a good 3 hours. Do not be swayed by the people saying it’s difficult. The interface is just like any other photo sharing service like Flickr, Instagram, google or amazon photos. Honestly, Facebook is more confusing than this. And even if you get jammed up, the website is great and there are a ton of YouTube walkthroughs. So stop reading reviews and go buy it because that’s exactly what I’m about to do! Hey, maybe someone from Nix will see this and send me a free one lol. I wouldn’t mind having a few of those all around the house.
