A necessity for Xbox one owners. Backlit buttons. Range is great. Eliminates the need to use the irritating on-screen keyboard. Chat in MMO's, lookup friends by name, search faster, etc. we tried the cheaper imitations and got frustration in return. Wasted money on the fake one that didn't work before getting this little gem. Aside from a full sized wireless keyboard, this is the best peripheral for typing available for the Xbox one. To install, the connector must be lined up with the port. This isn't automatic. Slightly wriggle it up and down carefully, then slide in once aligned with a firm push on the base of the keyboard. After a few tries, becomes very easy to connect. Just be careful not to snap off any of the protruding parts on the keyboard. To remove, slide directly down, not at an angle. You can break this if you're not careful. So far it's still works flawlessly.

We bought this for a 9 year old so he could chat with his friends on Xbox One. He does not use the headset very much, but after 5 months he still comments on how much he loves having the chatpad. Easy to handle and fits perfectly on the controller. There was one issue that did not affect the usability of the product but was annoying: The jack for the headset did not plug all the way into the chatpad. Bad design?

I always sign into my account when I turn the system on (preference) and disliked people being able to see my psswd when logging in or having to re-enter login information for an app (Netflix, HULU, etc.). Almost the best thing since sliced bread. Adds some heft to your controller that you may or may not like. I am currently using it on an XBox Elite controller. You might prefer a nicer headset, but I don't chat online too often to currently justify it. In the end I don't really have any cons to mention. Enjoy.

So this is Day 2 with my Xbox Chatpad from Microsoft after returning a third party one that seemed to be defective. Also, this review is for a Chatpad that I purchased USED, so proceed reading with that understanding. :) That being said, I am loving the difference already. The buttons respond well, and I LOVE the X1/X2 buttons-- You can set them to do just about anything, and launch any of your apps. I cannot tell you how cool it is to go straight to Youtube or a game of my choice with just a push of a button. I will mention that you have to pre-program the buttons first, but it's not too difficult a process. What does take a minute is that you will have to plug the controller (with the chatpad and headset connected) into the Xbox with the included cable, so that it can receive a firmware update before the first use. I recommend plugging in the headset you WANT to use (in my case, I have a pair of Sony Headphones with an in-line mic) if you don't prefer the headset it comes with. The backlight on the keyboard isn't the best, but I think mine is due to being used before I owned it. If you get a new one, you'll more likely have a brighter light. But considering that is my only con, it is STILL worth the purchase. All in all, I am glad I was able to pick this up. I highly recommend.

If you are reading this, please take my advice and just buy this one and not the off-brand chatpads. This little chatpad is super solid, easy to use, ergonomic, and looks really good on the controller. My controller is white and the black contrast of the chatpad looks sharp in my opinion. To my surprise I haven't observed the battery life going down since using this. Don't listen to the bad reviews of people saying they got a used chatpad, or it was for a different controller. Make sure to select NEW from a good seller. I am not sure how people are breaking their controllers during installation of these. The only way to break your controller during installation is if you're being very forceful and rough with it. Slide the connections together and gingerly snap the chatpad into place. First time you will need to update the firmware on the controller which takes a minute.

Microsoft’s Xbox One chatpad and chat headset is highly appealing with its easy set-up, features of the headset, and features of the chatpad itself. As a frequent gamer, I purchased this product to help the communication between my friends and I while playing online through Xbox Live. The set-up of the chatpad was easy and took a matter of seconds. For the chatpad all I had to do was push the USB portion of the chatpad into the Xbox One controller USB port. The chat headset auxiliary cord was then plugged into the bottom of the chatpad. After doing so there was a short update to the controller and I was able to use both the headset and chatpad. The features of the mic include a flexible mic which allows the user to move the mic closer or further from their face. The arm of the mic allows the mic to move up and down. This is a great feature as it creates a headphone option, should the user choose to do so. This allows the user to listen to the game play without bothering those around them with the noise while gaming. The mic can also be turned off through the switch on the cord. This switch also allows volume control of the chat within the set volume range. This is set by using the chatpad buttons. The chatpad has the ability to increase the volume of either the chat or game play and a backlit keyboard upon pressing any button which allows the user to play in any lighting situation. The chatpad also includes two buttons that allow the use of Xbox One’s screen shot feature as well as the recording feature while in game play. One suggestion I have while wearing the headset is not to wear it for prolonged periods of time. I occasionally have a small amount of pain in the cartilage of my ear when using the headset as the headset rests on the ear rather than over it. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend Microsoft’s Xbox One chatpad and chat headset due to its easy set-up, chat headset features, and chatpad features.

This product works great. It cuts your typing time significantly! Perfect for browsing any app or chatting. It's good quality and very durable. My husband loved it as a surprise gift! 🙂 It fit perfectly and easily into our standard Xbox1 controller. If this review was helpful please mark it as such! 💛

This makes it so much easier to type on Xbox One than using the virtual keyboard. The only problem I had was trying to figure out how to keep all the letters capitalized. Unlike the Xbox 360 chatpad when you open up the keyboard you click on the left stick to keep all the characters capitalized. But with this you have to hit the orange dot then the caps/shift button to keep all the letter capitalized. Also the volume controls makes it easier to turn up or down the game, movie, music, chat volume without bringing up the guide. My chatpad feels a little loose when connected but it's no big deal. When it's connected the controller has to do an update. Why do provide a usb cable to update it when it does it wirelessly now these days. Now I won't be fighting the virtual keyboard to search and to send text to friends.

It's a must have! Makes it easier to type, especially if you use Edge. Chat buttons are built in so you can use some nice gaming headphones. The greatest thing about it is you have a button that says (X1), that's your screenshot button and (X2) is your "Xbox Record That." No need to double tap the Xbox button in the middle of your game! Makes your Elite Controller more Elite if you've got your hands on one of those.

Love this chat pad! It fits on the controller like it was meant to always be there and adds so much functionality to my user experience. I took the advice of several reviewers and went with this one because it is made by microsoft which guarantees compatibility and firmware updates. In fact when I first attached it to the controller I did have to go into settings then devices and update the controller to support the chatpad. Also, an added bonus is that it comes with a headset. It is a standard intro level headset but still offers basic mic functions. Back to the chatpad though, it is excellent quality. I fact it reminds me of a sturdier version of an og slider phone keyboard with the physical buttons. It is backlit as well and will only light up when you are typing to save on battery life, which it draws directly from the contoller. I highly suggest getting a charging dock as i did and this way you can pay 20$ once and never have to buy batteries again. This pad also has extra button you can program as shortcut keys. I personally rather communicate in game through messaging so as expected this ups my gameplay drastically as I can quickly type things out and resume gameplay without much interruption. Higjly recommend!
