I had 3 main objectives when purchasing this tri-pod. First, I use a D750 and/or D810 with some heavy FX lenses so I wanted a sturdy, well build tri-pod that I wasn't afraid to put my gear on. Second, I do a lot of hiking and camping so weight and ease of use was a factor. And finally, price. I have no concerns putting my gear on this tri-pod, it's sturdy, the leg locks are simple to use and easy to secure. Again, no concern that things aren't secure. In regards to weight - it's not the lightest tri-pod out there, nor is it the heaviest and lighter than most tri-pods I tried and tried. The last thing was price - I'm not afraid to spend coin on good quality gear. This item was priced lower then I expected for the quality and weight and would highly recommend it. Final note, this is a personal preference but worth mentioning. This comes in different colors and I went with the blue. When I go camping or hiking there are usually people with me. All my gear is either blue or in blue bags which makes it easy for me when packing or identifying quickly what's mine versus other people's gear. It's nice to just grab my blue gear while my friends are trying to figure out whose black tri-pod is whose.

Used my ZoMei Z818 for the first time this past weekend, and OH the difference a good Tripod makes! Used it for long shutter speed shots on a local waterfall, and it worked beautifully. Very Sturdy and versatile. I am just an amateur.....but have seen a world of difference between this and my last Tripod. I also LOVE the option of using one of the legs for a Mono-Pod. Would recommend to my Photography friends without question!

For the price, you can't beat this tripod. I originally had the orange one a few years ago, and picked up the blue one recently. The orange was an awesome color that really stood out from other tripods. The only reason I bought another one is because I sold my old tripod along with my old camera. It really is a sturdy tripod that holds up my Canon DSLR with no problems. I've read some reviews and there may be some quality control issues. I haven't had any problems at all. The twisting locking mechanisms are solid, making it easy and fast to set up the legs. Way better than the old latch that most tripods use today. The ball head provides maximum range of motion to get the right shots at the right angles. The spring tension hook at the bottom is perfect for hanging a camera bag to provide a bit more stability on windy days. I'd say this is a must have if you're looking for a quality tripod around $100.

I was initially skeptical about a chinese knockoff tripod. But given that it had very good reviews, I was tempted to buy it and examine it. This is quite a surprisingly well made tripod. I bought the Z818 Aluminium model. I was surprised at how light it was. Got a nice brushed aluminium look. Personally, I liked it but my other photographer pals didn't like the looks much. But who buys tripods for looks, right? It weighs about 3.8 pounds and measured 24 inches when folded and ~65 inches when fully extended. Very sturdy. The ball head mount seems to have been built by someone who gives acute attention to detail and quality. Very fluid motion and very nicely designed. Some of the more popular consumer tripods in this range have a drag control knob as well on the ball head. Unfortunately, this one did not have that knob. But it may not be that much of a dealbreaker. Also nice inclusion with a very well cushioned case. Did I mention that one of its legs converts into a monopod? It is a pretty tedious process though. Zomei did give an adapter to facilitate that. One little known fact about this tripod is that all the twisty leg locks have a quarter turn lock limiter that you have to surpass to actually get it to collapse. Nice little safety mechanism in case you accidentally end up twisting one of the locks.The center column with the ballhead is very solid in design. Mine needed some forcing to slide up and down indicating poor lubrication. In terms of how well the tripod was able to withstand heavy lenses, I had a Nikon D700 with a Sigma 18-35 f1.8 mounted on it and tested it. No issues. I even mounted my camera with a meter long f11 optical tube from a telescope. It held sturdily and is perfectly capable of holding much heavier lenses as well. Pros - 140 bucks; Fantastic functionality; lightweight and portable; sturdy build quality; Cons - Nothing worth mentioning;

I was looking at the Ravelli APGL4 but at eight pounds I had to rethink that. This sweet thing weights only 3.7 lb and attaches nicely to my camera backpack which the Ravelli could not do! The Z818 is a dream to work with. It unfolds lickety-split and at full extension holds my Pentax K-3ii with a battery pack and 55-300mm lens without an issue. It is steady and the lock mechanism works with just finger pressure. I know that some have had issues with the leg extensions falling out but that is easy to prevent! When loosening the tightening rings just free them them to about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn you will feel another pressure point... just stop when you pass that pressure point and your work will be quick and uneventful! The legs will slide freely. The problem is many treat this like the tripods of old and try to turn that ring several revolutions and that is not necessary and takes time. These legs will free always in less than one turn. Tightening is easy and without much pressure the tripod legs stay right where you put them. All I can say is that this tripod works better than my old tank of a tripod (Husky Soligar) at 1/3 of the weight! It works, it is light, and it is pretty! What more do you want!

I use this all the time! I like to film and take photos on the go, as I am assuming most other photographers out there do as well. This guy is great and comes in a nice compact carry case. While that part is not over nice, I am not a huge fan on the rather small strap. If you are carrying more than 1 or 2 pieces of other gear it gets a little tight. It does come with a nice velvet bag to cover the head with, and keep it protected from the elements which is a added bonus. I find myself taking this guy out to the woods and filming a few painting projects, or quickly throwing it down to film some wildlife. While this is not a video tripod it works perfectly for it with my DSLR camera. It took me a few hours of playing around with the adjustment nobs, and keeping them at the right tension where I could move the camera around quickly. Another huge advantage of this tripod is that the fact that it can become a monopod. While there is another piece you must keep around for this, which I often find myself leaving at home, or its in the bag and I am too far away to adjust for that. The quick release on the legs makes it so you can really forgo that and use all three is need be. Let me also not forget it does have a little level in it, so you can always adjust for make everything look perfect. It also maxes its height out at around 7 feet.

The short: can't beat the quality for the price. This reasonably-priced tripod compares very favorably with $300+ tripods I've purchased in the past, for 1/3rd the cost. The materials are all first-rate, the fit and finish are excellent, the leg locks are quick to use and very secure. The ball head is smooth and easy to position, and the position locks hold it in place even with a large DSLR with battery pack and a big telephoto lens on. Being able to quickly switch to a monopod is a big bonus, though I wish the couple of parts you need to pull off the switch had a dedicated pocket in the included case -- they might be easy to lose or fall out of the case without me knowing. The quick-release plate is a bit on the small side, but locks quickly and easily in place. I'm going to have to buy a couple more, it would be great if the tripod came with more than one, but for the price one is reasonable. All in all I'm extremely pleased with this tripod. Time will tell how it holds up to heavy use, but so far it's a quality piece of gear for a very good price. Highly recommended.

This is a very good tripod for the price. It is compact, yet versatile; well constructed with sturdy, lightweight material. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a better than entry level tripod. The plus side of this unit is the ability to convert to a mono-pole. The head will rotate 360 degrees for panoramic shots and the action is very smooth. Construction is great. The head is solid, well designed and easy to operate. The legs can easily be positioned several ways, and are solid in all aspects. When extended the legs, the twist mechanism is easy to release and tighten with one hand. One of the design feature I like is how the legs will fold up around the head to protect is from damage. The storage case is well constructed, very sturdy and when the tripod is folded correctly, it stores very easy. Congrats to the engineer who designed this unit.

Beware of sellers on Ebay shipping off-brand models, but advertising this Zomei 818. I received a KET DIRECT. model K550 (they also make a model 818, same thing, different sticker) It looks deceptively like the Zomei 818. The quality and build are nowhere near the Zomei. Clearly fakes and knock offs. Sellers post generic photos of the Zomei 818, but not actual pics of the item. I had to learn this the hard way. A leg didn't tighten and my a6500 with Sigma 16mm art lens crashed to the ground, smashing the front element of the lens. - $140 repair and shipping costs. The real ZOMEI 818 from Amazon however is a great tripod.
