A+ from these chicks
OK, I was skeptical. I ordered this, and set it up right after I got it. I had an appointment, so I tried showing one of my girls got to use it, but I had to go. A couple hours later, I came back, and the whole flock was using it! I've not had any problems with leaking. I love it that my girls will have clean fresh water! ***addition after owning this bucket for several weeks*** This bucket is still going strong! I've still not noticed any leakage, and it stays full for quite awhile!

Buying the biggest one. Now I have 4, and happy with all.
I'm back to order a 5 gallon. I have a 2 and two 3.5 gallon models, and like them all. I hang the 2 gallon, and set the 3.5 gallons on blocks. I'll definitely put this 5 gallon on a block. I recently opened a pasture far from the house, and liked the idea of not having to fill as often. I still keep some open waterers close to the coop, since the chickens seem to like guttering around in them. They get dirty so fast, though. If they run dry, I don't have to hurry to fill them, because my others keep the birds hydrated, if not quite as amused. They do seem to have some fun pecking at the nipples, though. I wish the buckets weren't white, but otherwise, I sure like them. I use vinegar to control the algae, but I just don't like anything white. It stands out so starkly. I also have one hanging bucket with the vertical style of nipple. I notice when I come to fill buckets, that one is used the very least. This horizontal nipple style is highly preferred, although the chickens do occasionally use the other one.

Keeps your chickens water clean!
I noticed our chicken water would get dirty in what seemed like minutes after cleaning and refilling. It was the kind that had the open trough around it which let in dirt and feathers. I searched and found this, and what a lifesaver! The instruction looked like a breeze and probably is as far as chicken introduction to the nipples if you have a flock you hand reared. Ours are a little more standoffish but after a couple days I saw one hen drink from it and the rest followed. So I would reccomend leaving your old water dish in their coop until you see a hen drink from it. The large container means it's easy to leave for the weekend and not worry, and best of all the water stays clean!

Not too bad once a week
My free range chickens were immediately attracted to the nipples. This does beat the hanging red dish that switches water on and off with a spring mechanism. There is simply no way to keep that water dish clean. I will use it as back up. Always need back up! But with the gravity feed bucket/nipples, the water is totally clean and I can put in some electrolytes or Apple Cider Vinegar. I need some vinegar to pH balance this city water (a bit alkaline). It helps the hens digestion. 12 hens, 5 gallon bucket lasts a week. Fill er up! Not too bad once a week.

I thought GOOD customer service was dead in America....
...boy was I wrong? Yes I was. I have received this waterer very nice packed and immediately I put water in it (after I made sure it was clean and free of any debris) It looked clean but I rinsed it off for good measure. My chickens took to it right away. Next day, after I received it I get an e-mail from Tyler and Diana at Rent a Coop asking how it works and if I contact them they will respond within 2 hours. I told them that 2 of the nipples are leaking some water. They replied to me literally in 5 minutes explaining that maybe a small piece of debris got stuck inside and prevents the spring from closing the valve. They also explained on how to clean it up. After I followed the instructions they were still leaking. They promised me that they will replace those nipples and that I will receive them in the mail by tomorrow. They arrived today and for my surprise they were FOUR nipples that they sent me. This is an outstanding Customer Service. Kudos Tyler and Diana. I will buy again from them if I ever need something. Now let me talk a bit about the product itself. This is a great idea, to have a waterer that you don't have to go in every day and wash it, replenish the water. As you all know chickens are very messy and if you have any other waterer you have to go in there and clean it daily. This way you fill it once and depending on how mani chickens you have you can replenish up to once a week only. Until I found this one I tried several other models. They were a complete waste of money. I will suggest that you do not hang the pail as it is heavy when full and do not set it on the ground also. If you have an old flower pot that is sturdy put that upside down on the ground and put the pail on top. Myself I used a block of wood that is about 6.5" high and about same diameter like the bottom of the pail. This way it is not going to topple over. I hope that this review will help others to make up their minds about this product and specifically the customer service that was outstanding.

Prayers mostly answered; winter will be the ultimate test
Chicken waterers have been the bane of our chicken rearing existence. Four years into the backyard chickens lifestyle, we've struggled with galvanized 5-gallon auto-waterers whose welds loose their integrity, which you discover after filling it and returning to the coop a day or two later to find 5 gallons of liquid soaking the substrate and chickens "running dry", to heating devices for under the galvanized waterers that break after 12 months of service, to a heated dog bowl that keeps the water from freezing in winter but gets filled with poop or sediment and needs to be cleaned daily. Enter this seemingly simple device: angels sang the day I installed this thing. I can add water once a week for our seven lovely "girls" and it never gets dirty. So far, no nipple malfunctions. And teaching the girls to use it was easy. Chickens have incredible eyesight. I set it on a wood block base about 8 inches off the ground, squatted down, tapped all the nipples, got one gal to come over and check it out. After about 30 seconds of her experimenting while I continued to "tap and drip", another gal came over to check it out, and once I saw the two of them drinking, I knew they'd teach the rest. It probably helped that I didn't leave an alternate water source around for them to use. Seems to be working fine. My challenge will be finding a sustainable way to keep this from freezing in the winter--I think I'm going to try the type of heating device that is a dipstick style that you plug in and drop into the bucket. Fingers crossed this is our final solution!

Great waterer for chickens, and ducks can drink from it too
This is a great waterer for chickens, as others have attested. But bring in the duck mafia! Ducks can access the water also; I've seen them happily drinking from it. However, I found that this cannot be the only water supply for ducks, because they need open water to bathe in, and seem to prefer getting their food wet. If you can only have one water source for ducks and chickens, this should not be it. I wanted this waterer to ensure the chickens had access to clean water, because the ducks dirty any water they can get to. This does the trick to solve that problem, even though the chickens also love the fresh open water I give to the ducks each morning in addition to accessing this waterer. At least I know they all have clean water after the ducks have muddied and pooped in the open water, which is about 15 minutes after I've given it to them. There's a twist-off cap set in the lid for filling that's very easy to remove and replace. I think it could be a bit bigger, though, so I don't need to use a hose to fill it. In the winter, using a hose means draining and putting away the hose, which is a pain. I'd like to be able to fill this directly from the spigot without splashing water all over the ground. But this is a nit-pick. Great waterer overall, highly recommend. The seller is very responsive and helpful as well.

Always have clean water for your chickens.
The best waterer we have ever purchased. I've had chickens for a long time and have tried many different chicken waterers. This is definitely the best one we've had. I keep it raised so the chickens have easy access and it is not sitting in the dirt. There is no pool of water or reservoir on the outside so you never have to worry about dirty water. The lid is secure and prevents the water source from getting dirty. The chickens have to peck on the nipple to release the water so the water is always fresh and clean. The five gallons last my chickens several days so I don't have to worry about water everyday so that is a real time saver for my family. Very easy to fill from the top when you need to add water. Not sure why we waited so long to try this type of waterer. The only negative if there is one is that it's a little expensive.

Great product and company!!
I couldnโt get my Hens to drink from the nipples within the return time frame. So I reached out to them and explained the situation. They worked with me in finding a soloution that best fit my situation. In this case, they sent me out TWO 2.5 gallon tubs with cups to drink from instead of the nipples. It did take a little work getting everything tight enough, but this is just due to the time the nipples were in, I donโt blame this on them. With the right backing I was able to secure it. My Hens were aged 18 weeks-almost a year, but most of them were on the year old side. If you are in this situation maybe you should consider getting the one with the cups instead. If your birds are young enough Iโm sure itโs a lot easier to train them on the nipples. Overall a wonderful product from a great company! Between this and the feeder I got from them Iโm allowed to spend time away from home without worry on if they will have food and water. :) great product for any #backyardchicken #lover.

Better than the decent waterer I made myself.
Just about the perfect waterer for chickens. Complete the perfection with the K&H Pet Products Ultimate Pail Deicer, if you have electricity in your coop. (If you don't, prepare to bring liquid water every morning to some thirsty birds during deep freezes like Jan 2017.) Our birds learned fast how to drink from this--the red nipples make them peck automatically out of curiosity. I set ours on a concrete block, not sure the handle is strong enough to hang 24 x 7 x forever--this is 40 pounds when full of water. This replaced a waterer I made myself with a 5-gal bucket and vertical nipples--the horizontal nipples are easier for the birds, and you can set the bucket down when refilling. Nice product.
