We are beginning to accumulate Lodge cast iron cookware. We bought a silicone handle cover, but you can't pick up the hot pan for very long. The heat comes through the silicone. This leather cover should work very well. The personal story of the H&D founder is also unique and interesting.

Tough, durable, stands up to the heat. The handle doesn't slip once on. After about 18 months of (regular) use it had tightened on the handle to the point where I had issues sliding it off if I wanted to put the skillet in to bake something. I eventually cut a 3/4" long slit in the opening (not in the stitching) and that took care of the issue. All the stuff that has spilled and splattered onto it wipes off or absorbs, the handle holder just seems to get better with seasoning. Gotta love leather.

Tried fabric holders - caught on fire Tried silicone holders - absorbed oil and wouldn’t grip Tried this leather thingy, and voila! It grips and keeps my hand all normal and non-blistery! Thanks guys!

Soft piece of dead animal makes ouchie-hot pan easy to grab. What more can I say. It's a great product So far.

Gave this product to the King of Cast Iron himself, my dad, for Father’s Day. He absolutely loved it! He knew exactly what it was and put it on his pan he was currently cooking breakfast with (see picture). My mom thought it was an eye glass case, but my dad knew immediately what it was. My dad also said a few things about it: “oh wow this fits on every one of my pans!” “This is real leather, wow this is great quality. Good find!” “I might need some more of these.” And finally “now I just need one that wraps around my lodge cast iron lid that I use to push the bacon down with.” Needless to say, my dad loved it and anyone who uses cast iron regularly will too.

The first time I saw this I was hooked and had to have it. I find the Lodge silicone holder to be a little cheesy looking despite its functionality. Over time, silicone will have a burned look to it. However, this holder compliments my potholder from Hide & Drink perfectly. Since it's leather, I'm not sure I would use it in the oven but that's just me. For stovetop and camp use, it's perfect. The fit is snug and perfect for my 10" lodge skillet. The quality is superb. You can tell it's handmade by the stitching and feel. Overall, I highly recommend buying this from Hide & Drink as they provide excellent customer service.

I love this little leather skillet holder. I have used it on a #10, #8, and #6 size skillet, no issues, fit them with ease. At first, its a little tough, like all leather, after some bacon grease hit it, it softened right up. It protects from the heat well, I got the skillet ripping hot in the oven, about 450 degrees, and slid this on, and was able to transfer it to the stove with no issue. I would definitely not leave this on in the oven though, that would defeat the purpose. It would heat up, and then be hot to the touch also. I like it better than the silicone style handle covers, and the cotton ones. The cotton ones if they get wet, they are done, and can not be used until they dry back out, the silicone ones, I can not seem to ever get a decent enough grip on them, no issues like that with this one. The leather also seems to jive with the cast iron skillet style as well, handmade, and a little more rugged looking. The only thing I would change, possibly make it a little longer, a little thicker, or add some sheep wool or something of that nature on the inside.

Amazing high quality. LOVE it! So much nicer then the silicone ones. Very manly and nice looking. Was gift to a man. Does not burn, or fray, or smoke, or get damaged in some fashion like some of these pictures have shown.... maybe if youre cooking over an open flame, then yes, anything is susceptible to catching fire or burning up, but on a normal residential home stove, its awesome!

I love cast iron and this handle holder makes the experience even better. I have now purchased three of these (two for me and one as a gift) and every one of them is fantastic. The packaging is perfect for a gift and my friend loved it as much as I do. Get one for every pan you have and all the pans your friends have! Update 5/1/19 - my third order arrived and the quality is awful! I checked back on the order and it had been shipped from seller "uxshoxk" not "Hide and Drink Direct" like the previous two. I added photos to this review so buyers can see the juxtaposition between these two products. I submitted my return because what I received was not what I ordered but wanted to warn future purchasers that the quality version in the photos is only sold from the seller Hide and Drink Direct.

Bought for my fiance as a gift cuz he is always burning his hands on our cast irons! He said it was the coolest gift he has ever gotten! Love it! Its nice cuz you can easily move it from one pan to the other. And you can flip it either which way....which is very useful for us since my fiance and i have opposite dominant hands!
