Bought this for hikes/backpacking, climbing, regular house stuff, and so far, I am very impressed. Many people give the Storm a bad rap due to how "confusing" the settings are for it only takes a minute to memorize the functions. I like the smooth design for it looks awesome and durable in the rain. The straps are easy to adjust, batteries are easy to access even though their is a water-proofying assembly in place to protect the batteries. I like the fact it has red, green and blue lights. I also really like how you can turn on the brightest setting for either the white or colored lights through a side button, kind of like an on/off switch, you don't really see that in most headlamps. If you do not want to jump from the lowest light setting to the brightest using the max/low side button, you can hold down on the power button for the light to gradually lower to the lowest setting then as long as you're holding down on it, it will go from lowest all the way to the brightest (example do,re,mi,fa,so,la,ti,do, instead of do,do, like the side button). Another great this about this headlamp, is the fact that you can switch it from a flood light to a spot light, thanks to the two white LEDs. When you use the white LEDs, when switching it to the max-brightness setting, both the spot and flood lights will turn on together! Sweet! A lot of headlamps are uncomfortable when just a tad bit bulky or heavy, and some people have said that this was an issue with the Storm, but I don't notice it. The Storm even has a pad that goes inbetween the lamp itself and your head in order to make the headlamp comfortable to wear! For S.O.S, you just turn on the light, on any setting (color, spot, flood...), then triple tap the power button on top. Yes, it is pretty cool you can S.O.S with the different lights. Many people don't see any use for that, but I can see how, like signaling friends for example. The battery-life seems to be solid! I was going to buy a micro-usb rechargable headlamp, but many of them weren't for me due to price or their short battery lives, plus there are so many positive reviews of the Storm online! Aaand "Storm" is a GREAT name for a headlamp, and it really suits this headlamp with all it's features! To sum it all up, great battery life, very fair price, variety of color LEDs and settings, water-proof, stylish and comfortable!

Researched this heavily. Found the white light MUCH better than my Primos Top Guns. For blood trailing and cleaning deer I expect this will be much better. However, I use the red light alot walking into and out of my deer stands in the dark and the red light spooks game MUCH less than white & even green. The red on the BDS is much less concentrated than the Primos...I'll have to use the green LED for walking in/out so I don't trod on a snake....the red is too weak. However, on the primos TG the filters can break off. So in short, I LOVE the BD Storm....get it.

I bought this to replace my old black diamond that somehow went missing. This one is brighter along with added green and blue Led lights. However, after replacing the first set of batteries with fresh ones, the light switch malfunctioned resulting in having no control of lamp brightness or colors. I contacted Black Diamond via email and filed a warranty claim, including my Amazon receipt and a photo of the headlamp.. They immediately responded, sending a new complete Storm to my house withing 3 days.. Now that is customer service at its best!! I am hoping that the new headlamp gives me years of illumination.

Before purchasing my Headlamp I did hours of research. I went on an Elk Hunting trip to Colorado and needed an element proof headlamp that I could count on with my life literally on the line. I am a "prepper" and I strive to buy the very best products that will last for long periods of down time... The trip to Colorado required IMHO, the best equipment available and I can attest that this headlamp was AWESOME!!! With freezing temperatures (snow and sleet) the headlamp never once failed to illuminate and the design and features of one touch color change and dimming, kept me from blinding my buddy. Most people are concerned about just having a bright, high lumen light, and never consider that they will be blinding another person when they talk to them. The dimming feature on this light was a simple touch away and believe me, my fingers at times, were so cold it was all I could do to even make a fist. Yes i had gloves, but that is another review at another time... I have put the "Storm" to the test, in a real life and death situation, and it came out on top! Cant wait till next year...

I've been backpacking for 20 years and have owned 6 or 8 headlamps, I like the technological advances on new units or, I'm just a gear nut. I was about to purchase the Black Diamond Revolt but, was less than impressed with the Reviews on that model. I decided to read Reviews on the Storm. I'm glad I did. I just received the Storm in the mail. I'm very impressed with the workmanship and the features, especially the battery compartment. The compartment on Early models left much to be desired and, Frustrating. I will take the Storm into the Wilderness tomorrow however, I can tell you Now it will be an amazing tool !!

The Downside first since that's what you probably want to read. Well...If any i'd say It's slightly complicated to use, you're going to have to give it a good run through each time you take it out. Also, you know you have a light on your head..its a bit big but not any larger than the rest on the market in the same class but not bothersome at all, probably not for joggers. For the good: Super super solid construction and feel. VERY NICE in a day in age when everything feels like its made from recycled toilet paper. WOW this thing is bright....I mean bright...i'm not completely convinced its not somehow nuclear powered. This thing is so bright if you look at it you not only go blind you go deaf as well. If you're like me and like the red and green lights for the night and accidentally turn on the white then just take a seat for half an hr unless you have a cane or seeing eye dog lol. It has a very secure latch system (pictured) that i really can't ever see opening by accident even if dropped. 4 colored lights for you night hikers like me and at any brightness level including strobe, rubberized material where you need to grip, easily adjustable headband, 3 YEAR WARRANTY, Waterproof, dustproof, tilts way down to point almost directly down. I've been using headlamps for yrs and most are cheaply made but I was really surprised by not only the settings and capabilities which are amazing but the feel of it, it just feels solid like quality, sadly that doesn't come through in pictures. I'd easily say i'd rather have this on than my Petzl. If you're on the fence about it like i was i'd say don't be. Also mind was delivered in 3 days.

After extensive research I found this to be one of the top products. I bought this item before I left for my annual military training and was excited to break it in during tactical exercises. The only doubt that I had came due to the price tag but the value greatly outweighs the cost of the item. I needed a headlamp that was relatively small/ lightweight, had Separate R/B/W colored lens that I could control manually and separately. This met and exceeded my expectations. The memory function was useful in situations where i either had to have dim light or no light and often switched between the two during "stealthy" operations. I could rave about my headlamp for days but all you need to know is that it is a good buy if you like multifunctional tools that are pretty easy to use (who doesn't?). I've had the item for a few months now; I haven't used it as much since I returned from training, but I know it's going to be a blessing with the threat of hurricane Irma. I did not experience any trouble/issue with the headband as others had mentioned in their reviews. I have not had to use the strobe tool and I don't really know what the green light is for... Enjoy you're new toy/tool!

Lasted the full 8 hours of America's Toughest Mudder. Inside stayed completely dry despite being submerged in water, mud and lots of rain. If you need a waterproof headlamp, this is the one!

After misplacing my old Black Diamond Storm (the previous generation model) I got this one. This headlamp is a beast. Much brighter than the previous build, and the controls are the same, yet different. The upgraded lighting design is smarter, with more features, but with the same familiar controls as the last one. The low light/night vision now features blue and green as well as the red colored light. All dimmable and with a strobe setting. The max brightness setting is spot and proximity both maxed on high. Super super bright headlamp. The new design is more compact/not as bulky as the previous build, and looks better overall. The battery compartment has a quick release latch instead of the old metal screw. Still as waterproof as ever. Better padded head strap, the headlamp itself has a smaller profile, which makes it lighter and more secure when active in the field. All lighting modes have memory, strobe, and are dimmable–which conserves the battery. Compared to the older BD Storm, this is an impressive and sleek upgrade to an already top notch piece of gear. Waterproof rated to be fully submerged 1 meter for 30 minutes so it will last through any and all weather conditions. Comes with 3 year manufacturer warranty.
