They have fooled all the neighbors who think that they are real and ask where I got the home surveillance system from. However one Trusted neighbor 4 blocks away inquired and wanted these too as there were some bad thug gang thieving kids on his street. The bad people-teens avoid my house now that I have installed them around my house

These dummy security cameras really look real because there are real security cameras that are made and look exactly like them…. and the real ones are made out of plastic as well (what today isn’t made of plastic); but the real ones we have are smaller. You cannot tell the difference in construction though, even up close… but our real ones do not have forward-facing flashing red lights. They are clandestine. The perpetrators never know that they are on camera. However, what we did was to hide our real cameras and expose the fake ones. That way if some savvy professional crook decides to disable the fake ones somehow, he’d better smile because he will be on the real hidden “Candid Cameras.” We put two AA Lithium batteries in each dummy. They claim that a couple of plain old alkalines will last at least 6 months. We shall see how long these last. There have been two home invasions on our block (it’s a long block) in the last year. So, now we have a fake camera system, a real monitored one (Simply Safe), and a good back-up one referred to as “Smith and Wesson.” …. the latter probably being the best deterrent of all.

Excellent quality "camera" with a useful and more-functional mount than previous "cameras" like this. These are very realistic-looking, take two AA batteries to power the blinking LED light, and are unobtrusive during the day but intimidating at night. Whenever I look at these blinking demons I'm almost startled by the intimidation factor and have to remind myself they're fake. My neighbors have asked me about my "security system" and one even apologized for helping himself to my Traeger smoker pellets (saying that I'd surely see the footage on my "cameras"). In my opinion this is one the best things you can do for security.

These are surprisingly good for the price. The round thing that you mount onto the wall and the main post are all metal. The camera itself is plastic, but it looks fairly convincing, particularly if you mount it high up where it is impossible to get a really close look at it. The stability of the bracket is pretty decent once it is in place. Do I think they will last forever? No. I imagine the weather will not be kind to them. If you can, I'd put them in a protected area, out of the way of both the sun and the rain. I did not even try to put the batteries in them. Real security cameras don't have flashing red lights these days, so you are probably better off leaving the batteries out. Besides, if you mount it up high with a ladder, are you really going to get up and change the batteries every few months anyway? Most of home security is just about making your house a slightly less attractive target than the house down the block. Maybe the cameras are real, maybe they are fake, but why risk it? Just go on to the next one. A real camera system is an utter pain to put in. You have to fish wires through your walls, and most likely you will not get a clear picture of the bad guy anyway. These provide probably 90% of the deterrence value of a real camera system at a fraction of the price. More importantly, you can install each camera in about 5 minutes if you have a drill. Installation tip: Get some electrical tape and tape the little wire where it goes into the hole in the mounting pipe. It helps stabilize the camera to keep it from moving and insures the wire won't ever pop out and reveal the camera as a fake.

I have mixed these dummy cameras in with real ones around my property to make it look like I have more extensive surveillance coverage than I do. They look very convincing; my neighbors couldn’t tell which ones were real, and which ones were fake. One caveat: these cameras include a battery compartment that allows you to power up a blinking red LED light. I strongly recommend not activating the light; it’s extremely bright at night, and looks ridiculously fake. My real cameras don’t have any blinking lights on them, and I suspect any savvy criminal will recognize these as being fake from a distance if the light is active. Otherwise, the cameras themselves look great!

These fake cameras look very real complete with flashing red light and power cord as real cameras do. May not fool a professional, but Would definitly fool your average thief!

I ordered two of these cameras to supplement my own Defender system of three real cameras. Can not beat the price. It is plastic but have to touch it to determine that, as it is metal painted plastic. Snaps together quickly, as some have mentioned this is not a $500 real camera, the pieces, especially the hood part are a little tricky to slide on. Have to slide from lens side and make sure the hood is exactly in the little grooves. One went on easily, one took a little juggling. Put this up to cover a spot in front of garage automatic door that now has pots and flowers on it. In past the neighborhood idiot has taken out aggressions on flowers and my real cameras guarded the backyard, my car, and let e monitor the alley. Rather than get a another real camera and mount outside and plug in thru garage, I took the cheapie approach. This will fool any flower killers that they are being watched and should not destroy my flowers or trespass. At 2:45 am this morning, I had the dog outside and my nasty neighbor slowed her car to look at all my new plantings in yard. She saw camera and quickly passed by on her way to work. Issue of red light has been mentioned in reviews. I base my opinion on my real cameras. When I walk into range, the red light shows which means it is recording. When I peek at this one, yup, the batteries show a steady red light just like a real camera. No one wants that so they would move out of range and not see the red light is steady. So I suggest buyers put the batteries in so it looks like it is recording. As noted, the "cord" is not quite long enough to stay in its slot when the camera is turned into a position that is off to side. One end is fastened securely, Other end is loosely slipped into a slot on camera post. When I mounted camera on my garage wall and extended it to cover around corner, the cord was over extended and did come loose. I simply tied a bit of wire on the loose end, pushed into slot and down to base. I fastened it around one of the screw holes and no more loose wire. I recommend everyone have a security camera system to monitor for vandals and trespassers. Good to have recording of such things. But fake camera like this can fill in the gaps without spending a lot of money.

Ok - Consider this, Perception is reality and when it comes to dealing with bad guys, lets face it, their not too smart. These fake cameras look like, and act like the real thing, and the point is, to make the bad guy think he's being watched and recorded. I use these along with real CCTV cameras that look almost the same as these, so realistically, the bad guy is most likely being watch and recorded by my real ones - he/she just doesn't know which one and therefore the deployment of these cameras worked. An inexpensive solution that works! I take it a step further, I actually super glue a long piece of black coax cable to the camera mount to make it look even more real. The only down side is the provided surveillance camera warning sticker, they look fake so, go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a better one to put up. Overall, I love these fake cameras, they are simple, the batteries last forever since all it does is feed a red blinking LED light. I highly recommend them.

Love these cameras. I was having problems with people breaking into my unoccupied house. I bought these hoping to prevent that from happening. They installed easily. Since I have a fenced in yard, no one can get closer than 20 camera and from that distance, so no one can tell they are not real within going in the fence, which is locked and has Warning - No Trespassing and Warning - Video Surveillance signs posted. Even standing directly underneath these cameras, they look realistic. As someone enters the driveway, the flashing red LED catches the eye and serves as a deterrent to would-be thieves and vandals, which is bonus. Since the several weeks I have been using these and posting the signs on the fence, I have had no more issues of people entering the house uninvited. I am very happy with this purchase. I bought these to install on my in-law’s home. I’ve installed over 100 ‘real’ cameras over the past 5 years. These pretend cameras look like legit cameras, though perhaps a bit larger than I would prefer. Still, I’m very happy with the results. It took about five minutes to install each device. I installed lithium AA batteries to power the blinking LED in hopes the light will keep working for a year or so... we’ll see!
