• WIDE MOUTH MAKES CLEANING EASIER THAN EVER: The glass jar is less likely to get scratched up than a plastic carboy or bucket, so these jars are already easy to clean, but the wide mouth makes it even more convenient than a normal carboy. Stick your whole arm inside the vessel to reach all of the surface area with a cleaning cloth, ensuring bacteria has no place to hide.
  • INSTALL YOUR OWN AIR LOCK: When using this jar as a fermenter, gas will be released from your brew. If the vessel were sealed airtight, the added gas could cause the jar to explode if not vented properly, but if there is not a good seal, your brew could become oxidized. The removable cap on the lid allows you to install a drilled #3 rubber stopper with your own air lock so the gas can vent without allowing in oxygen.
  • BUILT-IN AIR LOCK: The lid has a recessed area with a removable cap that can be replaced with a breather cap to use as an air lock. The breather cap allows gas to escape from the container during fermentation and having it in a recessed area allows you to fill it with sanitizer so that the released gas can bubble out, but harmful oxygen and impurities cannot get in and contaminate your brew.
  • ADJUSTABLE DIAL TO SET BREW DATE: The lid features an adjustable dial that allows you to set the date that you begin fermentation, so if you have multiple batches going at the same time in different jars, it's easy to keep track of when each one started! Simply turn the inner dial to the month and the outer dial to the day. No more sticking a piece of tap on the side with a date scribbled on it!
  • DURABLE STRAPS MAKE CARRYING EASY: If you've ever tried picking up a slippery jar that's filled with a few gallons of liquid, you'll appreciate the convenience and safety of having a strong woven nylon strap to lift and carry the jar from place to place. The straps fit snugly around the jar and criss-cross the bottom to evenly support the weight, but can be quickly slid off of the jar for cleaning.

Just love this larger glass carboy. I have 2 smaller 5.5 gal ones which are ok but larger is better! I also love the wide mouth much better then the standard carboy. You can get pour the wort better in this without using a funnel. You can stir it with a large spoon when adding sugar or yeast.

I've bought the 5.5 gallon wide mouth carboy and use it for home brewing. I’ve used buckets (long ago for a short while), and traditional glass carboys and this product is by far and away better. This allows for easy cleaning. My hands can easily get in with a paper towel or rag to wipe down the krausen (crud left over from fermentation), and easy to sanitize from there. The large mouth allows it to fill and drain quickly saving time on clean up. The handy straps help make it easy to move around and easier on the hand then the orange handle I’ve used in the past on traditional glass carboys. The lid is very well thought out. It has a nice gasket to interface with the glass. I used the built in air lock and when it was in place it worked great. When I moved the carboy some of the sanitizer liquid (i.e. Star San) spilled out. This was resolved when I added more Star San. So if you’re moving it be careful and if you’re moving it a lot use a traditional airlock which doesn’t spill as easily. I have two glass carboys and now this one. I plan on buying a 2nd 5.5 gallon wide mouth carboy so I can go from primary to secondary in this style. I bought just the one to try it out before committing to the style. So if you’re coming from buckets to glass this is the preferred path. Also if you already have traditional glass carboys this is worth the upgrade to either increase capacity, or simply to make brewing easier. 7/20/17 Update I now have two of the 5.5 gallon wide mouth carboy's and a 7 gallon wide mouth carboy. The 7 gallon carboy came with an improved gasket. The gasket was a plastic/rubber material and works better than the original gasket (which was more of a foam material). The plastic/rubber material is much easier to clean since it feels stronger and less likely to break. I usually only seal one carboy at a time so I just move the cover and gasket to the active carboy. If anyone from Kegco is reading this I'd readily accept two more plastic/rubber gaskets! The 7 gallon carboy let me do a double IPA and have enough head room for dry hopping. The recipe called for brewing and initially fermenting 6 gallons of wort. They accounted for the loss when transferring to secondary.

So much easier to deal with than a standard carboy. The only thing I would recommend is using a plug and airlock instead of the built-in airlock on the lid. I use isopropyl in my airlocks and the the lid has an open reservoir around a small plastic cap that releases the co2 leading to rapid evaporation. I set a glass lid over it to prevent the evaporation but in the future I will put a stopper and an airlock in instead. Other than that, this is a wonderful carboy for primary fermentation.

I enjoy making wine and this product makes it even easier to make, clean, sanitize and store. The wide mouth makes life so much easier. I would still use and separate water seal instead of the built in water seal it has because I feel the water evaporates too fast.

I was reading the reviews before I purchased this item and was concerned about its sturdiness. However, the item's thickness is just fine. It's not as thick as a 5 gal. Carboy but I believe it will work just fine. I love the design. Wide mouth opening and a built in vent. I wish other companies will follow suite and come out with their own version.

I use these for pepper fermentation and wish I would have known about these a long time ago. Very easy to clean and a built in air lock to boot! I will order more when our operations expand.

It arrived just in time. I washed it up which is very easy with the wide mouth opening and transferred my beer for the second phase of the double ferment which went very easy. looks great. Love the built in gas trap and date tracker. I will be getting more of these fermenters.

Great addition to my home brew equipment as a secondary fermenter. Some people complain about it not being very thick glass, which is true, but what'd you expect for under $50? I just make sure I'm careful and set it on a towel. Good product, I'd buy again.

These are great fermenting containers for Kombucha. The lid has the screw cap and alternative breather cap to allow for off gassing. The wide mouth allows easy access to add and remove the SCOBY. If this carboy had a high quality dispensing spout it would be that much better.

I bought this carboy for curing herbs, it works excellent for that purpose. Keep in mind these are not pyrex or even heat treated glass and the production method does leave thin and thick areas. If you buy this for brewing use extreme care while stirring and cleaning be aware of rapid temperature changes (hot water) as this will stress the glass and could result in breakage. I would clean carefully by hand with WARM water and soap
