Not a necessary truck mod, but serves its purpose well.

Great product. Not really a necessary mod for your truck, but once it's installed, it's really nice to have. My dad helped me install mine on my truck the other day and now he wants one for his. The included Torx tool is worthless. I ended up having to use vise-grips to remove the cable bolt. The bolt was torqued down so tight the Torx tool never had a chance and would have rounded out the bolt if I had continued trying to use it. Either go buy you a real T50 torx bit for your socket wrench or use vise-grips to loosen the cable bolt before using the Torx tool. Though I can't speak to its longevity since I just got it and don't use my tailgate on regular basis, the materials appear to be well made and I think this should last me a long time

Easy to install - works great!

My old Nissan pickup had a hydraulic assist built in. I didn't realize my new 2018 Ford didn't have anything like this; I let the tailgate drop when I opened it and was very surprised. This was very easy to install, just remove a few bolts. It came with some plastic liner to separate the metal from the aluminum truck body. It is unobtrusive, and it works exactly like it should. This should be one of the first after-market add-ons someone should get once they get a new truck!

Very nice gadget for the price

I agree with other reviews, this item should be standard equipment. I also took the advice of other reviewers and placed a buffer between the 2 plates and the surface of my vehicle. I placed duct tape on the mounting pates and trimmed the tape with a razor blade. Hopefully the duct tape will prevent corrosion issues. I also used a T50 socket to remove the bolt that held the upper unit. Mine seemed to be torqued on by an impact tool gone wild. I did have stripping concerns but the bolt did break loose. My tailgate (2016 F150) now opens as though a butler in a mansion is gently opening a door for me. I consider it a very wise buy considering one slip can put a $200.00 ding on an aluminum tailgate.

Great product. Some trucks come from the factory with that tailgate assist. My F-150 did not. Installation was a breeze, instructions were spot on. Pro-tip, coat the metal brackets with plasti-dip before installation. They come out looking great and it should help with any corrosion issues.

Super addition to the Ford f150 . It keeps the tailgate from slamming down on my short wife who is 4'10" and the tailgate is rather heavy at that height. This is a solid well thought of item that keeps that heavy tailgate in check. Would definitely recommend this to anyone with this vehicle. Installation to literally 5 minutes and there are easy to read directions with pictures for those that aren't mechanically inclined.

Amazing soft drop for your tailgate.

I purchased this item for my cousin who has a F150 without a soft drop tailgate. Super easy to install. Works like a dream. Ford Motor Company only offers a soft drop tailgate on their deluxe pickups. When we contacted the dealer, they said they had no idea what to do. I contacted DeeZee and they sent out their fix for the problem. Installed in 10 minutes. Problem solved. Update: Piston malfunctioned about a year later. Called DeeZee. Customer service rep confirmed my purchase. He sent an entire new unit out. No charge !!!!!! Problem fixed ! Customer service is SUPER !!!!! Buy DEEZEE products !!!!! Great company. I am very satisfied !!!!!!

This is a MUST HAVE item for any pickup truck

What can I say? This is a "must Have" item for any pickup truck. This tailgate assist should be standard equipment on every truck sold. It just WORKS! And installation is an absolute no-brainer. No mechanical aptitude is needed to perform the simple 5-minute installation. And, with a very clear, singe page, full color instruction sheet and the requisite #50 torx wrench included... it doesn't get any better that this Once installed, this shock makes opening and closing your tailgate a simple one-handed deal because it carries roughly 75% of the weight for you. Your tailgate will glide slowly to rest in the open position and raising back up, can be done with one finger (especially handy for someone like me who's undergone major shoulder rebuild surgery. Bottom line: BUY IT.. Install it.... LOVE IT
