Battery Back Up OK
I installed this. I set the time and programmed on/off times. I shut off the breaker for this switch. When I turned the breaker back on all my settings were lost. It says right in the description "Battery Back Up". We have a lot of short power failures where I live. Not looking forward to resetting this thing every time we have a 1 Minute power failure. Unless someone can inform me that I have missed a way to set the battery back up this goes back to Amazon. Revised Review: After about 3 hours I tested this again and the battery back up held the settings. The battery must have a low to no charge. Just needed a few hours to charge. Hope it lasts. Was easy to install. Simple to program. Way better than the Intermatic that I had before.

Lights On, Lights Off
This is second myTouchSmart timer installation. The first has been in operation for six months. No problems. This timer is simple and exactly what I wanted. All you will need to do is invest about 30 seconds of your time periodically to adjust the on and off times as the days get longer or shorter. All I need is for the lights to turn on at night and turn off at daylight. That’s it. No added battery is required for operation. I needed to turn off the breaker several time to work on other devices and the backup battery did its job. No problems. I tried another manufacture a few years ago that was overkill for me and the timers failed prematurely. Thery had different programs for different days of the week and other related stuff. The other stuff included automatic on/off time adjustments per region programmed which needed to be manually adjusted anyway. The other Manufacturer’s required a specialty battery. If you see a GE 26893 or GE26893-P1 advertised it is this exact timer. Manufacturer Jasco is a GE licensee.

Perfect!! (For me anyway)
If you're looking for a unit that has different programming for different days, this isn't the one for you. Whatever programming you put in, works every day. I had 2 intermatic units. While they worked, they were a H-U-G-E pain in the butt to program. The tiny text in the tiny window was almost impossible to read. Well, one of them went out, and I decided to replace them both, and took a chance on these. I had an electrician install them, and I did the programming, which took well under a minute for each. Super simple! Before you program it, make sure you do the re-set as per the instructions. (I didn't, and went straight to setting the time and program. Didn't work until I did the re-set) It's a very simple unit. use the up and down arrows to set the time. Once that's done, use the up and down arrows to program the time you want the lights to come on, then again for the time you want them to shut off. No more MODE, NEXT, MONTH, DAY, etc. etc buttons. With this unit, you can program 1 or 2 events. For me, it turns on the lights at 7:30 PM and shuts off just before midnight. If I want to, I could have them turn on again at say... 4 AM, and off at 6. The only drawback I've found, is that the little screens aren't backlit, but since they're SO simple to program, I don't much care. Right now, I'm super happy with them. Hopefully, they will last,

Easy Peasy.
This was a great replacement for an Intermatic switch that was a giant pain to reprogram. The Intermatic had self-adjusting for sunset and daylight savings, but programming was a real ordeal and we had to do it a lot because we have fairly frequent power losses and the backup batteries didn't last as long as the outage. This switch is a breeze. You set the time. You press the on button, set the time, press the off, set the time and you are done. I guess it has a built in backup battery so maybe we won't have to reprogram, but it's so easy that we don't care. I suppose that as the days get longer and shorter we have have to reprogram a couple of times a year, but I'd gladly do that vs. the tedious and frequently unsuccessful reprogramming of the one we had --- press mode button, press up button, press mode button twice, when flashing, press down button, press mode button.... and on and on. This one did require that we hook up a neutral wire, whereas the one we were replacing didn't -- don't know why that was, but it was not difficult. Also had to identify the 'line' and 'load' wires, which was not that easy, but I must have gotten it right, because it works.

Where have you been all my life?
I have been through a number of these types of timer switches, and by far, this is the best I have seen. Finally a company has realized that simplicity can be a product's best feature. The switch I was replacing had so many "value features" it was a night mare. You had to put in day, month, year, time, timezone, daylight savings stuff it took forever to program, plus you needed a magnifying glass, a flashlight, and the users manual. Why would you need so many multiple settings, the sun rises and sets about the same time each day. The myTouchSmart switch is so simple, it's a breeze to operate. If it looses settings due to power outage, no problem, it can be easily and intuitively reset in a minute or so. I like how at a glance you can tell if it has the lights outside on the on or off mode. I highly recommend this model if you like easy, quality products.

So much better than our previous Honeywell switch
Our master bath was remodeled a few years back with a towel warmer on a timed switch (Honeywell RPLS530A) and it was a nightmare. If the power failed the whole program had to be reset and we could not figure out by looking at the tiny switches what we needed to do, so every single time it was back to the manual to reprogram it. Based on reviews here I bought this switch from Amazon, installed it today in about ten minutes, and had it working in another two minutes. Honestly didn't even need to read the manual to program the buttons because it is so obvious. Love the fact you can enable or disable the separate start and stop times by pushing a separate button, love the blue LEDs that tell you which start or stop time is active, and the manual ON/OFF override. My spouse understood it immediately, and loved the fact that it will be so easy to temporarily shut off the timed programs when we go away for a few days! I understand this has an internal battery backup that should help with power outages, which happen fairly regularly where we live. The only thing I could wish for is an internal date setting so it would know when daylight savings time changes because we sleep and rise by the clock, not sunrise and sunset. But that's not enough to ding a star- I have to go around the house changing other clocks too, twice a year. No big deal. Looks like most users here are using this for lights and that would be a great application, but it can handle as much current as our circuit does and our 500W towel warmer (about 5 amps) is not even close to its limit.

FANTASTIC! Wish I had bought it YEARS ago!
This little doohickey has solved a long-term problem. Two years ago I moved to a new neighborhood where the culture is to leave the porch lights on overnight (this wasn't the case in my previous neighborhood). "Simple!" I thought. "I'll just get one of those sensors that fits in the socket, and it will turn the porch light on when it gets dark and turn it off at sun up." Well, I got the sensor, but didn't take into account one factor. My porch VERY deep, and covered—thus, there's no clear delineation between "day" and "night." Instead, for much of the day, the light fixture is in a nebulous "gray" zone between light and dark. This caused the fixture to flicker for HOURS every dawn and dusk, and even on cloudy days! Ugh! But what to do? After a while, I got so sick of the flickering that I removed the sensor, and just tried to remember to manually turn the light on and off. Of course, there were many times I forgot to turn the light on (which I'm sure the neighbors weren't so happy about). And other times, I'd forget the turn the light off until the middle of the day. I figured there had to be a better solution, and that's when I found this product! My handyman installed it in only a few minutes, and I easily programmed it. Now the lights go on and off when I want them to; no flicker, no forgetting! I turned off the breaker for 15 minutes to test the back-up battery, and it worked like a charm. THIS PRODUCT IS FANTASTIC! I only wish I'd discovered it years ago. Great price. Attractive. And it does exactly what it's supposed to do. What's not to love?

Superb Timer
This is a great timer for turning on and off garage lights. The wiring is simple. Prior to opening the package ensure the display is showing a LED time. Next, open and install the light. The first timer I received did not show the time read out and was later determined to be defective. After installation, follow the directions to set the current time and the on and off time period(s) you desire. A blue light will glow next to each button that has its time set. The buttons are BIG and easy to push. The instructions are accurate and easy to follow. GE did a great job in designing this timer!

No more having to remember to turn lights on and off!!!
I was having some electrical work done on ceiling lights and was going to have a photo cell put outside by our garage so we would dispense with having to manually turn lights on and off. My electrician came up with gadget as a much cheaper alternative and wow what a blessing. He had put it in less then 5 minutes--I programmed it for summer hours and the second program for winter hours and this works perfectly!! Has a little blue light showing that is is in fact set and if on or off. You can manually also turn it off it you like, so easy to program anyone can do it. Really can't say enough of how simple this is to install---mine is on a 4 switch panel and all the guy did was to remove the old switch and put this in it's place and the other 3 switches are not affected at all. Attractive and highly functional!!

Wow... Fantastic and relatively easy to install.
If you have your wires properly labeled, it’s a 5-10 installation. BUT, I didn’t so it took me 25 mins to identify I had a loose connection and I had flipped the live line with the negative. Once I figured that out, easy breezy! And I’m no electrician! Simple to use, super easy to program, and has 2 timers for the same light switch. What does that mean? We used if for our front porch to come on and off in the evening. We also have it come on for the second timer early in the morning when our son goes to nursing school at 5am. The blue LED lights identify which timer is on or off and also if the porch light is on or off. Easy to see from a distance. Instal: 5-10 mins Programming: 2 mins Total Project: 7-12mins A great upgrade.
