Powerful yet light trimmer
I love this trimmer. We have other Black and Decker lawn tools that use the same batteries, so I wanted to get this trimmer since it could also use the same ones. The batteries really hold a charge well and last a long time, and this trimmer is so easy to use. There is virtually no maintenance since it uses batteries (instead of gas) and I trimmed most of our bushes very quickly with just one battery. I have not tried it on really thick branches, though, but it seems to cut through 1/2" and slimmer branches with ease. I used to fuss with gas-powered lawn equipment, but it was constantly clogging up or not running, and I really got tired of it and moved to these rechargeable battery driven devices. I had an old trimmer that used an electric cord, but I couldn't reach all our bushes. This trimmer freed me to move on to bushes around our pond and house that I'd had to trim with a pair of hand clippers before (or just let go "natural") and I can't get over how fast and easy this trimmer makes my work. Now, I'm out searching for things that need to be trimmed. It is light, fast, and the charge on one battery lasts quite a while, although I always carry a second, charged battery in my pocket. So, as they say, "So far, so good."

but not necessarily in a good way. I hate electrical cords and I hate ...
Okay, let me preface this by saying that I just used this trimmer once. However, at first glance and for the purposes of this one time use, I am impressed with this hedge trimmer; but not necessarily in a good way. I hate electrical cords and I hate the fact that when I start something....I have to finish it. I'll be 60 this year and I need to cut back on my yard work in the heat. BUT; this damn trimmer ran for 40 minutes non-stop! I have a butt-load of bushes in my yard. I finished 90% of them. So much for taking it easy. Pros and cons Pros: 1. This damn thing runs too long on a single charge. 2. It's lightweight. 3. It's pretty quiet Cons: 1. I hate a trigger you must constantly depress in order to keep it operating. It's physically taxing. I will rig a way to bypass this feature post-haste. 2. The safety guard (which I should have recycled) blocks your vision when operating the trimmer at mid-chest or higher, so you can't see what you're cutting if you're trimming the top of a shrub or the sides. (with the blade aimed away from you at 90 degrees) I will update if anything changes.

Returned the hedge trimmer because of strange noise in the housing unit.
When I took the trimmer unit out of the undamaged box, I noticed a rattle in the housing when I moved the trimmer around. It sounded like a couple of loose screws or ball bearings, but it did not sound normal. I contacted B&D regarding the noise, and they responded within 24 hours, saying they did not know about the noise and to take it into the local B&D Service Center. I called the local center and they did not know of the problem. I was told that it would take the center a couple of weeks to get to it or that I could return it to Amazon and request a replacement. So, I have repackaged the trimmer and am sending it back to Amazon for a replacement. I read good reviews about the device, and it looked to be durable with plenty of power. I've had good experience with a cordless B&D string trimmer, so am hopeful the replacement will do the job for me. I will update my review/rating once I get the replacement. 8/11/2018 Update-The replacement trimmer did not rattle in the housing unit, so I am upgrading my star rating. I've used it twice and it performs very well. It cleanly cut the branches, and the battery lasted without a charge using it for about an hour. Thanks Amazon, for immediately sending me the replacement trimmer.

Worth every penny!
I've always paid someone to cut my hedges and that adds up, however being a senior I was hesitant to operate a hedge trimmer. I finally decided to order one and so glad I did! It was really easy to put together, but the blade was a bit intimidating for me lol. A few weeks ago I decided to bite the bullet and get in my yard. OMG > it's great! So easy to operate, lightweight, and cut the hedges like a hot knife in butter = I was stunned at how well it worked. I use other Black & Decker 'battery' tools so was surprised at how long the battery lasted in this (I thought with the power I'm getting it would die quick). I ordered the 'quick charger' and am really happy with that too. If you're on the fence about ordering this > don't be. I wish I'd ordered it years ago and could have saved myself a lot of money!!!

Good Unit
I just replaced my older model that I purchased 5+ years ago. When it started having battery connect or a switch problem it was time. The older version served well trimming 25 hemlocks 4 globe hews plus numerous shrubs and cutting down the flower plants in twenty two beds for fall clean up it served well. I went with this for several reasons. I have a B&D string trimmer, drill, and blower sweeper all using the same batteries. All came with chargers and I have a couple of extra batteries. Battery life while very good, but is a non issue when everything's batteries are charged. There is always a live battery waiting. I have used this new hedge trimmer to finish up where the old died. I am glad I got the power boost model. It helps when dense shrubs bog the cutter down. I feel the trimmer is better balanced with the battery at the end of the handle instead of under it. I found that when I use a third battery in a row the motor starts getting hot. It is probably best to let it cool off after a couple. I have been happy with the B&D trimmers and it is far better than the wired one I that dragged a power cord around with for years.

Black and Decker 20v Hedge Trimmer Cuts Great and Jam Proof
I recently have been upgrading all my black and decker tools from the old 18v style ones, to these newer 20v with the smaller longer lasting batteries. I looked at the different 22" hedge trimmers and discovered something about this one that I really wanted. The button on top to help with jams. I liked my last hedge trimmer(which was still working but I gave it to my daughter in law who did not have one) The only downfall was that when it got jammed I would have to stop and unjam it. With the button I could work out the jam without stopping. I was sold! The one that I bought came with a 20v battery(1.5 size) and a charger. I plugged the battery in to the charger and it was fully charged in less than two hours. I like that the chargers and batteries are small. I also like that the light flashes while it's charging and then is a steady light when it's fully charged. I did have to put the handle and the guard on. The instructions said that the screws were partly in the unit and to unscrew them. MIne were fully in and tightened and sort of hard to get out. I was afraid I was going to strip the screws, but carefully removed them and then screwed in the handle and guard. It really only took me a few minutes. The trimmer fits in my hands well and the weight balances out to give me control. I am a short older female and I had no problem managing this tool. I tried it out this morning and it cuts like my bushes were butter. So easy! I love the 22" size because it's big enough that you can finish a job quickly but not so big that you can not round out bushes that need to be rounded. It was easy to work with and I felt fit in my hands. There is a thing you push in to release the safety and then you can press the button to keep the blades cutting. You only have to press that in when you first start it and there is one on each side so if it works better for you if you are left or right handed it makes getting started easier. The button to release a jam is right on top so you do not have to turn it off. The button releases the jam by slowing down the action so it can either cut through or allow you to move the trimmer. I do not have a lot to trim, and my battery had no slow down while I was using it. I can't wait to go out and trim again. What a great new toy. Totally work paying a little more for the added feature. Very Happy with my Purchase Thanks for reading my review Becky Brooks

used to take me a good 30 mins or so on the side of house ...
Based off first use: Moved to a real house about 3 years ago, and every year it seems I learn more about yard work / gardening. This was a purchase where my first use prompted me to write a review. Using hand clippers on bushes, used to take me a good 30 mins or so on the side of house to access the hose, etc. I used these today, for the first time, after sitting a week or two, and it was like cutting through AIR. Ha. I barely leave Amazon reviews, but the happiness knowing I could spend 5 minutes writing this and still be 25 minutes ahead of usual was reason enough! The only negative, was having to take the screws out of the device, only to then attach the handle and guard. For price, weight, power, and convenience I'm super happy with this bad boy. :)

LIGHT WEIGHT AND DO A GREAT JOB.
The item arrived quickly. It was very easy to assemble. At my advanced age assembling items can be a major problem if grandchildren aren't available. The battery charged quickly. My first use was stellar. It was very sharp. It trimmed the many shrubs in my yard quickly and easily. I already own a B & D string trimmer which I really love but I hesitated about getting this item because it was a little more than I wanted to pay. So very glad I did. Both item batteries last much longer than I expected and the batteries are interchangeable. Science has come a long way since I bought my last set of lawncare tools. So happy that my son recommended these two products. He said it would be the perfect items for little old ladies who need light weight, easy to use garden tools--light weight, easy to start and run, last a long time, need only normal care to keep them in good shape. I'm fairly sure that they will both out live me. Very glad I bought both of these tools.

Very pleased
This hedge trimmer is powerful, the blade is longer than our electric trimmer and battery life is sufficient for out needs. It is as advertised and we are very happy with it. I also like that the battery is interchangeable with other 20V Lithium Black & Decker tools. If I run one battery down I can use another one.

Great Hedge Trimmer
I LOVE this hedge trimmer! I have about 150 ft of 4 1/2 foot tall hedges that surround the front and side of my house. This trimmer cut right through the toughest branches of my hedges, and it did the entire job with one battery. I used the PowerCut feature twice, and it was great! I have the B & D 12" 3-in-1 Trimmer/Edger and Mower, and wanted a third battery for it. The way I see it, since the hedge trimmer comes with a battery, I got my third battery and paid just a little more for the trimmer. I'd been using an electric trimmer, and I always dreaded pulling out and putting away the 100ft extension cord. Yesterday, I just grabbed the B & D trimmer, popped a battery in it, and trimmed my hedges in less than an hour (and no cord to wrap up and put away afterwards). The trimmer is light weight in comparison to what I'm used to as well, and the 22" blade was the perfect length for my reach across the top of the hedges. I'm happy--it was well worth the cost.
