I've only just started playing the violin but I already noticed a difference between this Rosin and the one that came with my violin. I do get a lot of dust when playing but the sound is much smother and no skips on the length of the bow. I just have to clean up after playing which is what you should do anyway.

I am currently using this rosin on my cecilio by mendini violin. This is a learners violin and while it performs well for the price, it is not the best sounding when stock. I purchased prelude medium tension strings which greatly improved sound quality, yet I could not stop scratching on certain notes no matter my technique. I decided to change from my yellow rosin to this high quality red rosin. Life changer. My violin is has a much warmer tone and best of all no scratching! If you are worried your technique is the issue, try this rosin first before going too hard on yourself or giving up.

The round shape makes it easier to apply evenly by rotating the rosin as you pull the bow over the rosin. It is a lower dust rosin but takes a little more time to apply because it is a harder rosin. While a little more expensive as they say you get what you pay for, that is it is a higher quality rosin that will last longer and give better service in the long run.

Love this product! I'm a student and I practiced and practiced and there was no improvement with the scratchy squawky sounds so I started checking reviews for a different rosin. I learned that the rosin that comes with your student violin is generally not very good. Holstein rosin has good grip and it stopped the extraneous sounds. Thank you for making my practice more relevant!

My Cremona SV500 came with a pale Anton Breton rosin. Recording myself to pinpoint any posture problems, I realized my violin had a lvauge scratching quality and it increased, degrading to near the sound of rubbing a balloon, when I decreased bow stroke speed. There was no sign of over rosining as there was no rosin powder on the violin body or fret board but it always caked up on the strings well enough. I cleaned the strings, removed as much rosin from the bow as possible without disassembling and applied this product. Even my transitions are smoother, which I had assumed was my problem as a beginner. Makes a huge difference, this is a essential in my book for any serious student. Definite recommendation.

Beautiful Rosin. It works very nicely! I love the deep red color. The rosin bonds to the horsehair right away, unlike others which require a lot of pressure and rubbing back and forth several times until it starts sticking to the horsehair. Much better than D'Addario rosin.

I use several different brands of rosin throughout the year since I live in an area that is constantly changing from extremely humid to extremely dry and anywhere in between. I have never tried a red rosin before and I find this to be an excellent all around rosin so far. For my violin, my bow and strings, it's not too smooth or too crisp; it's right in the middle with excellent volume, warmth and nice grip. Love the little case too!

Just had my first lesson with my cello teacher who is quite renowned and he said, "This is the best rosin for the cello. Did it come with your cello rental?" No way, I said. I did some research and Holstein was my choice. I love the color as well. Thank you

I have one of those carbon fiber bows with a synthetic hair instead of the Mongolian Horse Hair, and it has a naturally gritty pull to it, but this rosin really helped to smooth it out and it works really well on my cheaper and not quite straight student bow. The octagon shape provides a firm grip and like other reviewers have mentioned it stays on the hair and doesn't plaster my violin with dust. Great product and excellent service by this father and son team!

wow. Just wow. I've had 3 rosins in my 3 years of violin playing... Hill, Jade and this one and this just tops the charts for me! Been using it for a month now so this should give me a fair review pros: -It's a beautiful red color that even its specks look like hinalayan salt (pink) and it is my favorite color ... Very elegant to look at from the magnetic case to the rosin. I love the design of the cake as I can easily evenly rub the rosin on my bow. - LOVELY SOUND! It not only looks nice... It sounded to my violin warm, full and buttery smooth! My violin has a warm, 'masculine' yet sweet voice and I think this rosin enhanced it :) if my violin had a personality it would be the warm, sensitive and boy next door type :) - Despite being a bit pricey, each penny was worth it as I'm sure this would last me ages (and even of it didn't, I'd still buy it again because it made my practice sessions quite enjoyable) - superb customer service! The follow up was awesome! - I love how I wouldnt need to use a different rosin for the cold and warm weather. VERY cost effective :) Cons: -Quite dusty BUT it doesn't bother me because it sure looks like snow and I'm not asthmatic. - a bit fragile but not as expected. Ive read some reviews about this issue hence I was a bit cautious that it might break and it did crumble somewhat where the frog meets the rosin but once I got a hang of a technique so that it wouldn't touch... Voila :) Overall, an awesome product and I highly recommend you try it too :)
