This is hands down a five-star item in my books and I would recommend. Pros You can scan single or double-sided documents
This is a review of the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 Wireless All in One Photo Printer. (Measures 19.7” x 17.7: x 13.3” and average use expectation of 250 to 2000 pages a month.) Summary – I wanted a multi-function printer for my many needs and I could find no other one even remotely close to the cost and feature of this one. Here is a quick chart of the things I considered which lead me to this. It has worked flawlessly since purchase, exceeding all expectations and I will update this review should I see any issues with ongoing use. This is hands down a five-star item in my books and I would recommend. Pros You can scan single or double-sided documents. This is great as I can avoid the need to flip to get the scan of a second side. Duplex printing. Faxing. Copying. Scan to pc-email features. You can setup an email to send print jobs to. (Emails, photos, word docs, excel docs, pdf docs, etc.) It literally is simple as opening up a new email, adding attachments, add in an email address for the printer and clicking send. Printer gets email from wherever you are (providing you have it connected to internet and setup) and the printer will print the docs. Great for those who need to print something remotely or from a device-pc that the printer was not actually setup on. Large 4.3” Touchscreen interface. You can see the icons and easily know what you are doing. Photo cartridges are easy to install. Can be connected numerous ways. Wifi, USB and ethernet. Is a quick unit considering the lower price. ($172 for the 8720 white version which is what I have.) (Up to 24ppm black and 20ppm color and holds 250 pages in the tray. The output tray will hold 150 pages.) Can scan to email and desktop. I can use the touchscreen on the printer to have a document scanned and saved to the desktop of my pc. (More than one pc can be setup for a scan to pc feature.) Cons No dedicated tray for 4x6 photos. You need to empty the main paper tray and adjust the sliders for the 4x6 photo stock you put in. Little loud and action seems a little jerky vs. smooth. Ink is expensive. In short, you will spend up to $120 for FOUR XL cartridges. (Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow.) Less than $100 if you are not getting xl sizes. If you get aftermarket brands, you can get 2 black and one of each color in size xl for around $60. Notes Several people have indicated the instant ink program works, however, has quirks. I do not use this feature as I would never want anything ordered automatically. Plus they indicate there are excessive pop-ups for instant ink.

Excellent operation and print quality. Wi-Fi works well, and features are complete. Recommended!
I've been very happy with this printer for my small office. All the features work without issue, and print quality is very high. I didn't really fall for the auto refill hype, though I'm sure some offices that have a good idea how much they use their printer on a daily basis, might have better use of that opportunity. The printer is relatively quiet in operation, and fairly quick first print. All controls are on touch screen and work well. Document loader works without jamming, and the wireless system is flawless. Very pleased that I purchased this printer, and recommend it.

It did not disappoint. I am a former owner of another HP ...
I bought this with the expectation of being able to print on envelopes and card stock. It did not disappoint. I am a former owner of another HP inkjet printer that was notorious for getting paper jams. I had it all of three months before mine started doing the same, and I never bothered getting tech support because it was a know problem, and other's accounts said that it took several months to get a reconditioned replacement that would behave exactly the same way. I threw it out and bought a Canon printer and a cheap color laser printer to replace it. However, I frequently have a need to print card stock and envelope projects and both of these had problems with feeding these without jamming or feeding crooked or out of place. I saw in the specs that this printer would feed card stock up to a certain size so I took a chance and bought it. I am completely happy! I printed an entire set of wedding invitations and programs for a friend without a single jam. It even printed the two inch wide RSVP cards without issues. It consistently feeds large envelopes as well. The only downside, there doesn't appear to be any cheap after-market ink available yet, so I am currently still using my color laser and Canon printers for everything else. Time and demand will remedy that situation.

Great Printer, and DOESN'T ask me to buy ink all the time!
I was a bit concerned when I bought this because I read an amazon review that said that the machine was constantly asking the user to buy ink. When I set the printer up, I just opted out of the ink subscription (and, yes, it did try to sell it to me!) Since then, not a peep about ink. The printer does its job beautifully, is incredibly fast, and never bothers me. It is just a totally nifty printer--which it should be at this price, but it's exceeded my hopes. And, so far, no need to replace the ink, but I'll order one set of replacement cartridges soon, just to have them. Wirecutter (awesome reviews site run by the New York Times--that's how I found this printer) says that the ink cartridge subscription is worth getting in some cases (lots of color printing, I believe it was?) but not in others. So look at their site.

I changed my Review of this printer from a One to a Five Star.....See why
At first, I had rated this printer only One Star, with the below review. HOWEVER HP was so good at helping me fix the Problem, I want to Upgrade to a Five Star. Thank you,HP! "The 8720 is Truly a Disappointment , to say the least! I had to spend $200 just to get it to work 'out of the box'. Note that is $30 MORE than the purchase price. At first, it printed from both the MacBook Pro and the iPhone 2 or 3 times, it Outright Quit! Despite multiple re-boots of all devices involved, there was no resurrecting the printer out of abject refusal to print. Go back to whatever printer Brand used to work for You"

easy set up
easy set up. ink in the box lasted over a year, weekly not daily use including printing tax returns and a couple of sharp photo prints. amazingly versatile machine, easy fast printing and copying, one or two sided, black or color, with document feeder. crisp prints. Never a jam. multiple ways to connect with wifi, or else usb or ethernet; only minor hassle was track down all the various signals it listens for and shut them all down except for the house wifi network, the only channel i want open. we did not consider the HP Instant Ink program, made no sense to me, seems the main thing unhappy reviewers complaint about. as someone else mentioned, all three color cartridges just happened to signal "replace me" in immediate sequence; original black still going at 15 months. sweet to print any way we want from anywhere in the house. easy fax set up, of course one would need dedicated line or program it to pick the house landline before going to voicemail, we just ask anybody sending us a fax on the rare occasion that happens to warn us so we can pick up the call manually on the machine. we took 3 printers and a scanner to the recycler the day after this little beauty arrived.

Great printer
I've had this printer for six months now. What a nice machine it is! The programming is really well done and it has operated flawlessly so far. The printing quality and speed are quite good. This is a small-office machine but I have it for home use. It is much bigger and heavier than I expected when I ordered it, but once it was set up, no matter. I don't use the fax function but did set up the other functions and they all work. FYI, if one of the colored ink cartridges runs out, the machine will stop printing in color, but it will continue to print in black and white as long as the black cartridge is functional. It then asks you every time if it is okay to print in black-only, and you click yes....or replace the color cartridges!

Sorry Cannon...
I used to be absolutely faithful to HP products for years. The only reason I moved away from them was cost of ink. I switched to a Canon Pixma MX922. I LOVED my Pixma! Pictures were sharp and ink affordable. Then I started having problems that resulted in me having to contact Canon every few months. Even the Canon Tech told me my MX922 was not one of their better printers and that it was riddled with issues. So, after swimming in the river of DENAIL, I broke down and returned to HP. I wanted a printer I could count on for quality without have to make a service call every time I moved. This printer does it for me! I am extremely satisfied with the quality, noise level, speed, features and color! Yaaay!! Welcome Home HP!

Easiest wireless setup imaginable!
Until I hadn't needed to purchase a printer in many years. My previous printer a HP Officejet 6310 all-in-one finally broke down. The 6310 was a tank...used it in my own business for 11 years; not a problem until a hinge on the lift up copy door snapped. Of course the old tank wasn't wireless enabled. My new HP Officejet Pro 8720 proved a snap to set up and network with my HP TouchSmart PC. I love the printer's touch screen operating system...takes away any need to learn how to operate copier, scanner or printer functions. This was especially helpful in sharing the unit with my wife for whom I act as resident IT department. Simplicity is good in the digital world! It's wait and see if the new HP will still be functioning 11 years from now -- but so far so good!

Excellent All-in-one Machine
My previous HP all-in-one was an excellent machine and lasted more than 10 years. Knowing how lacking QC can be, regardless of the manufacturer, I was not looking forward to the process of choosing a new printer. I've had this printer for almost a year. I can say I am thrilled with the purchase of the HP OfficeJet 8720. It has surpassed my expectations with lightning fast printing, superior imaging, quiet operation, and reliable connectivity. I would feel confident in recommending this printer to anyone.
