Great Compact Surveillance Camera

This is a great security camera at this price range. Costco sells much more complicated system with 6-8 cameras at a much higher price, like $600-$2,000. This camera is great for a small home, or if you want to monitor one area, like front door, backyard, or living room. The picture quality is great. I also like the fact that it has a night vision. Although there is cloud service, you can choose not to use it after the trial period ends. I love this option and it saves tons of money. Overall, it is a great buy.

Get this monitor!

I LOVE this monitor! I am sad I am just now discovering it. I have the Summer Infant duo for my one year old and yes it works but the picture is not very clear and I don’t like how you cannot zoom in or scan the room with it. I just installed the YI Smart camera and I will not look back! This is amazing, I love that I can view my child’s crib from anywhere. The picture is so clear, the camera is light weight and stuck to the wall with a command strip! I would highly recommend this monitor! You cannot beat the price point and quality!

Good home monitoring camera for the money

[Updated on 04/22/2019] I am adjusting my overall rating of the product after more than 2 weeks of use. I am pretty happy with what this camera can do. The camera has been working very reliably since it was installed. What amazed me is its infrared and night vision. It actually helped me to spot a little mouse that visited us in the night. After monitoring the video recordings for a couple of nights, I found the route that mouse went. So I got a mouse glue pad from the Home Depot and placed it on the route. Sure enough, I got the unwanted house guest the next day. It is a great product and I highly recommend it. You never know what it can do for you. [Original review posted on 04/09/2019] The Yi Home Camera 3 comes in a nice package. It comes with a USB cable and power adapter and setup instructions. The setup is a breeze. First, go download the YI Home App from the Apple store and sign up an YI cloud account. Once the camera is powered on, it finds the WiFi network by scanning the SQ code picture from the phone app and asks for the WiFi access password. Enter the password and you have it. You can view the live video streaming from the phone app, as well as playback or download the video clips stored on you cloud account. It comes with 6 months free cloud services. Pros: nice and stylish design; quick and easy setup; comprehensive yet intuitive phone app; good video quality and night vision; magnetic base for easy mounting on any metal surface, no screws are needed; the image can be flipped upside down through the camera settings in the app, allowing mounting the camera to the ceiling upside down; zoom and pan of the video image within the camera field of view is possible in the app (the camera head itself cannot be moved by the app, though). I noticed a nice little feature in the app which is moving the phone left and right will let you pan the video image left and right. Cons: the camera gets its power from the USB cable so the camera has to be near a power outlet or needs a long extension cable; the automatic camera on/off control is limited to a simple schedule setting via the phone app and misses the more convenient geofencing feature.

Cheap and cheerful

I bought these to monitor several rooms and find them satisfactory. The mic/speaker functionality is hit or miss at times. They don't have the sharpness that I see with my Nest cameras but also didn't pay the monies for them as the Nest costs. Good product that does the job.

Good surveillance camera

Setup the camera is easy: install YI app on my phone -> power up camera -> follow simple instructions on app -> connect! I put the camera on windowsill and facing front door. Viewing angle is wide so I can see everything in that area. Later I will try another option which is to put it on the top corner, this could make it less noticeable by my neighbors. The base has magnet, I plan to install a steel plate (2”-3” round or square) on wood as mounting surface. The build-in speaker is quite good, sound is clear and loud. Put in old 32GB class 4 MicroSD card, it works fine. No need to buy high speed card, MP4 video file on the card is ~12MB per minute in high resolution mode.

Good picture quality and good detection

Camera arrived in nice package. Very easy installation after following all instructions. Good picture quality and cam covered a wide angle so the view is great. Human detection also worked great as it caught my son walking across the room. This version does not work with 5ghz network connection but I did not find any issues so far using 2.4ghz.

The YI Home Camera is a good camera because I can download a app on my phone and connect the camera to it.So when I am away I can still see what is going on in my house.Also the camera can also turn 107“ wide angle that I can see around my house and what happiness outside.In addition at night i can see more clearly because it has a night vision function. therefore，I really like this Yi Home Camera of its 2-way audio and I reccomend it to my friends.

Awesome lil camera

Contemplated going all out on my tattoo studio with iron bars for the doors and windows. Instead decided to add this lil camera. And it works perfectly. You do need to fine tune the sensitivity. But any noises or movement and I'm notified. I wish it had a louder notification or the ability to assign your own notification sound. But for the price I feel a whole lot more secure.
