I upgraded from my Sensotouch 3D as the battery was going and wouldn't hold a charge for more than three shaves. So far the 8900 razor is great, the motor feels strong and contours well. It fits nicely in your hand with no slippage. There was an issue with registration as the Norelco site did not recognize the barcode nor was the model number listed in their pull down choices. I had to manually enter the exact model number of the razor for the site to recognize and complete registration. I also read a couple of other reviews that stated they thought the razor was a knockoff because of this issue. Interesting thing about the blades, my old Sensotouch 3D took the RQ12+ blade head (at a premium price) and you had to replace the whole head. With the 8900 you just replace the rotary blades themselves although the head is the same as the Sensotouch which means they are interchangeable. I know this because I popped the top of the head off of my Sensotouch (just the blade assembly... that's how you clean it) and it fit perfectly on the 8900 and worked fine. I took a close look and the head, blades were all the same. So to save money, just replace the blades but if you have an extra head from a previous model it will probably fit.

I shaved with a razor and shaving cream for 20 years before switching to electric the last 25. This is my 4th electric razor, and the previous ones to the S8950 were high end Norelcos and none came even close to shaving close to a blade like the S8950. I've seen other reviews complaining about lack of closeness but that is not my experience at all. Maybe because I don't have a super heavy beard or I just started using he circular motion as recommended in the manual. I like the trimming attachment better than the flip up trimmer since the adjustable trim guard keeps the moustache whiskers at the same length. More than once I slipped with the flip up trimmer and left a "clear cut" in my 'stache. This also came with a nice quality hard case instead of the flimsy softcases that came with my previous two Norelcos. I travel a lot so this was a nice touch. The charging/battery life LED gauge and cleaning/blade replacements lights are a nice touch also. For $150 bucks, it's a much better deal than the $250+ razors I had before, and finally shaves as good as a blade.

I've been using Philips rotary shavers for 25 years and I really like my new S8950/91. Amazon had a $20 off coupon for it so I only paid $119, which made it unbeatable compared to something like the current Star Wars SW9700/83 nonsense at $260, and they both use the exact same SH90 shaving heads. I compared this razor (S8950/91) side by side with a 9850 unit (S9733/90) - they both are sold without the cleaning station, which I think is a waste of space and money when running hot water does pretty much the same job. They use exactly the same shaving heads and shaving unit bottom and head holder, along with the SH90 shaving heads (I swapped them between units and compared every single component) I really doubt that the gimmicky speed system on the more expensive razor makes any difference, and the different display didn't feel necessary at all, especially with the steep price difference. Overall I'm extremely happy with this new Series 8000 unit and I have no doubts it will last me several years, like my previous units.

I am 53 years old and have been shaving for a very long time. I have gone back-and-forth between electric and traditional cartridge razors. I've now been shaving several years with a Harry's razor. They do a pretty good job but they are difficult to shave around The mouth and just below the nose. I also get cut about once a week. Gillette fusion razors are pretty good but the trimming/edging blade dulls quickly and they cost a lot. I just did my first shave with this razor and it was a wet shave. Was never able to do that with any of the prior Electric Phillips or Braun razor that I have owned. The last electric razor that I own was a series 5 Braun shaver. It was so bad it was almost impossible to do a shave with it. I have a skin condition now that is made worse by a regular razor so I was having to shave with a regular razor around the rash and then use the Braun just for that small patch. That gets frustrating after a while . So with this new Phillips 8900 series razor I had a pleasurable shave with no cuts it was very fast the unit is extremely quiet. Did not miss any hairs anywhere. I am in disbelief and yes it was as close as a blade. And no I am not a spokesperson for the company. Can't speak to how it would dry shave I would probably only do that in a pinch. I think an electric razor dry does irritate the skin a bit.

I've been using electric shavers for a couple of decades. I had Norelco before and I liked them. My last one was a cheap brand that only lasted 2 months. I hesitated about buying this one because of the price. I read a lot of great reviews and it looked very well made. I bought it and it is the best shaver I owned. I have thick facial hair and it will burn through it. I have gone 10 days without shaving. Didn't trim first and this shaver beat down quick. Very impressed with it. A little pricey but WELL worth every penny.

I like this razor very much. It replaces a similar, older generation unit with senso-touch 3-d head. The new version has the same comfortable grip that I am accustomed to and is far superior to old one and others that I have tried. Comfortable, easy to hold grip Compact More powerful motor - does not bog down on multi-day beard Superior cut - the head grabs stubborn, oddly pointing long whiskers that other razors need trimmed first Emptying the head - the top pops off and is easy to empty without having to bang the razor on the sink This is important because my old one had the battery disconnect inside the razor and I had to solder it. The battery charges quickly The battery lasts a long time It is generally a quiet shaver. This Philips shaver seems well built and I think that it will last me for many years.

Shaver performs well, better and faster than my last Phillips rotary. Did not buy the charging stand mostly to maximize battery life, since stand is always charging (says customer service). Recently had a problem with one of the 3 rotary cutters starting to vibrate a bit. Called customer service and a new shaving head is being shipped, no problem. Would buy this shaver again. Another battery life note. The several LEDs indicate when the shaver charge is getting low. I usually plug my shaver into the wall socket for an hour every few weeks, but I don't have the heaviest growth, so your mileage may vary. Deeper battery cycling further improves battery life -yes I know I'm being conservative here. I'm liking Shaver Saver as a frequent lubricant -avail on Amazon or locally.

I’ve had all the major electric shavers from The low end to high end that is made By Phillips. I have a 5000 series I bought for my hunting lodge and it does not cut close. I bought this one to replace a 6300 series and this one is so much better. I’d recommend this one but do not recommend the stand, washer charger. I had one with another 9000 series and it worked about six months and died.

Due to many reviews about the cleaning system I bought the model S8950/91 Razor w/case only. I have been using Norelco shavers since 1970, I am 65 years old. The only thing I thought was odd is that the razor did not come with a blade cover to protect the blades as has always been the case on previous Norelco's, I guess they figured the case was sufficient. The razor is slightly louder than previous models I have owned but it also delivers the closet shave I have ever had from any previous Norelco. I would buy it again.

I had been using a Norelco 885RX since 1993 when my previous model was stolen with my luggage while on a business trip. I tried various razors as the 885RX got older but all were inferior so I kept rebuilding my razor. Finally, after almost 24 years, my 885RX gave up the ghost. I checked out many brands and finally took the plunge with the Norelco 8900. It looks a little strange compared to my old Norelco and is very light as the cord includes a wall wart instead of having the p/s in the razor. I was surprised at the quality of the cut and the detachable trimmer is much better than the old integral trimmer I was accustomed to using. I think the big difference with this razor compared to others I had tried was, like the 885RX, I spent the money on a higher grade of razor and the benefit of that was very noticeable. Not in love with the cost of replacement blades and the short life cycle on them but overall, very glad I finally found this razor. It makes my daily shave less of a chore.
