This is an excellent product! It works perfectly. I have a Rag Doll cat that has super thick long fuzzy fur. Although her fur is not prone to matting, she doesn't like being groomed. The first time I used it was in her arm pit where there was a small but close to the skin matt. I calmed her down with a good ear rub them picked up the tool so she couldn't see it. She was purring and didn't stop as I started grooming process. I got out that mat and a few others... and she's still purring. Although she wasn't patient for a complete grooming, it worked! I was'nt scratched or bitten. She was happy and so was I. In the photo you can see the area inside the curve where the blades are sharp. The nicely curved teeth are not pokey on the end: it lifts the hair like a comb, and olny cuts the hair when it meets the resistance of the mat. I was amazed how well this works. Definitely a well thought out tool. (And it's purple, what else could I ask for? )

I bought this as a final attempt to get a gigantic mat out of my beautiful Pepper's fur before I resorted to shaving her down. The mat was right on her chest and was difficult for her to reach and difficult to work at so in came this comb and after 10 minutes of slowly working at it the mat came out and she was a happy cat again who didn't look all haggard with matting.

I don't write reviews very often, but I had to for this one. A few nights ago I had a very guilty pet parent moment and noticed my dog (a schnauzer) had many knots in his gorgeous beard, including one huge knot I thought was going to be impossible to get rid of without just cutting his beard. I was desperate and did not want to cut his beard super short- I wanted to fix what I had not noticed sooner. I wish I had been able to take good photos of the knots- a before & after- because this comb did exactly what was promised! It helped SO much and I didn't have to cut his beard :) I was a little worried purchasing this because of how different it is compared to other combs I've used- but it was so easy to use and I think my dog prefers it much more over the combs that really pull on his hair no matter how much patience and time I take. Obviously it still takes a little time and patience, but this made it much easier and better on my dog. Even if you get into the habit of combing your pets regularly to prevent knots I still highly recommend having this on hand, because we all know what kind of fun our pets can get into when we're not prepared haha.

Gets the job done, my cat has had a couple mats on him that I haven't been able to get off because they're too close to his skin to cut with scissors. I got this tool and it worked just fine. I did have to tug harder than I thought to get them off, but the cat never complained so it didn't seem to bother him. Before Amazon I never realized a tool like this existed, I always thought it was either shave or cut with scissors. Happy to have this thing.

I have a senior kitty who doesn't groom anymore and was getting tons of mats in her fur. This really seems to thin the fur out and comb through/remove the smaller mats. I still use scissors on the larger mats, but I really like this tool. She whines because it pulls her hair a little but I try to be really gentle and all in all it's pretty low trauma for both of us. I'm only doing a few minutes at a time, but I think if I keep using the tool I will get to a good place where I can easily maintain her coat and keep the mats away. My only negative is that it's hard to get both sides of the cat as the comb only faces one way. I wish the head flipped around or something. But all in all I'm very happy with this purchase!

Works like a charm. Just go nice and slow with your pet. Our kitty didn't mind at all for the most part - just when we got to the part of the mat that's closest to the skin. My advice is to use the mat remover tool and have a pair of scissors nearby as well for big mats. I found that cutting the hair while using the tool was the best way to remove the big ones (for the kitty). For future versions of the product, I would offer this - in a perfect world, the teeth of the tool would rotate so that you could use it left or right handed. As it is, the curve only supports one direction and I had to keep moving around so that the curved part would be pointed correctly.

The Hertzo Mat remover is _amazing_. I mean, truly amazing. I have used the Firminator on my other (short hair) cats and that's been fine. But what I really needed for my cat Callie is the Hertzo Mat Remover. It works as advertised - even better if you ask me. Let me tell you a little about Callie - she is one of my "inherited cats" from my brother. I'm not quiet sure what breed she is, but she has long fluffy hair that gets matted very easily. Callie tolerates being groomed for a short amount of time. She has napping and eating to do, so we have to work in the grooming as we can. Sometimes Callie is finished with being groomed before we are finished grooming her. As she dashes off, the Hertzko Mat Remover takes care of that. It gently removes the mat without disturbing Callie, even when she decides she has other important Cat things to do. And when Callie allows a grooming session, it is amazing to see how much fur the Hertzo Mat Remover removes. I can almost make another cat and a half with all the fur. Callie likes being groomed by this tool and will sit still for the dematting. Her fur is soft with _no_ mats whatsoever. I have resorted to cutting the mats out of her fur at various times because they were just too difficult to try to tease out with the Furminator. This tool makes short work of the task. I've had this mat remover for less than a week and I have managed to work out Callie's mat in that short time period.. Her fur looks and feels better. Callie seems happy to be groomed except for the break for important Cat things. If you have cats (and I presume you do as you are read this far), you know that you can not interrupt important Cat things. I highly recommend the Hertzko Mat Remover for anyone who has to detangle fur. It is a great product. Plus Callie approves of it, what other recommendation do you need ?

We have a long-haired calico. As anyone who has ever been owned by a calico or tortoiseshell can attest, their mood swings can be dangerous! She has a mean streak and a hair trigger, so I bought this after much careful deliberation. It was worth it! I found the secret to grooming her - I use both hands and stroke one side while detangling the other. I'm still getting large clumps of her undercoat every time I use the comb, but we can see a big improvement already! I think she even feels better about her coat, too! I heartily recommend this comb for anyone with a long haired pet.

I've bought other supposed mat removers in the past and haven't been too impressed, but this one far exceeded my expectations. I've got a rescue cat with long soft hair that was matted all over his body. I tried clipping him but it wasn't easy and I didn't get much done, and besides I didn't want him to be bald. I ordered this Kat removed and was planning on just working a little at a time on him, but the mats were easily coming out, and the cat was actually enjoying the process so I got him almost completely mat-free in one session! It was easy on both myself and the cat and SO much safer and easier than trying to use scissors, and way better than clipping. I totally recommend these!

WOW..this tool WORKS...really works!!.My arms are striped w/kitty scratches from attempting to de-mat my part Siberian feral rescue cat. PuffMouse has a dense coat that creates dred locks that Bob Marley would envy. I was sneakimg up on him to hack them out with scissors...he was ragged and ticked off! THEN, I bought this tool. OMG--- it slices through the knots without pulling. Great invention, thank you Hertzko!!
