What a cool idea !
Totally love this little gadget. I previously used an iPhone to record GarageBand strings with on certain tracks. The reason is that you can simulate bowing the string by using the touchscreen as opposed to playing strings on a keyboard which sounds a bit mechanical. So I got this for a couple of reasons. I can plug into my iPhone 7 plus using the lightning port. I can then plug the Korg plugKey into my audio interface and also control the iPhone through the midi port on the PlugKey using my midi keyboard. Also has a decent headphone amp as well as a volume control. It doesn't come with a charger or power supply. You can use it without one because it runs on the iPhone battery, with very little extra power consumption. To charge the iPhone you could use the iPhone's charger with a USB to micro USB A plug. Once you plug in the power supply, it will charge the iPhone as well as power the Korg. I could hear no discernable distortion or hum coming from this unit, and the recording quality I got was excellent. The midi worked faultlessly for me as well. Very easy to use, just plug in and go, no setup required. Does what it says on the box.

If you use iOS synths get this, read review for more detail
Love this thing. Works exactly as described. Highlights: - Can be used as a standalone device charger - provides a true audio interface (audio out only) for iOS devices - provides a dedicated MIDI interface (MIDI-in only) for iOS devices - nice LED indicator - line-level outs (1 stereo or 2 mono) - headphone out with volume knob I rarely write reviews. This thing is highly valuable if you use an iphone/ipad synths. When using this, you get all the features mentioned above and simultaneously reduce the load your device uses (midi and audio IO offloaded to dedicated device).

I like the fact this unit does not require an apple ...
Does what it's suppose to do. There are different devices to use with iOS devices with different combination of features. I like the fact this unit does not require an apple adaptor and it allow me to connect a cable to charge. Some devices have a midi out por which I don't see a use for. Setup - use an ipad as a module, hooked with to a MOTU midi express where 3 synths are plugged in plus 2 modules. the MOTU lets me control the ipad from any synth. You may get similar functionality from a cheaper device, but I found this to be a good option with the right features, with teh korg reputation.

Perfect tool for pro sound
LOVE it! I had been looking for something like this for a long time... something small and simple (and not crazy expensive) that would allow me to get sound out of my iPad/iPhone and into pro level PA and radio broadcast equipment. Haven’t used the midi features yet, but that’s an added bonus. It’s truly plug and play. It works great. Highly recommended.

Why break your back or your bank?
For gigging, this and an iPhone with Korg Module or Ravenscroft 275 saves both your back and serious bank. Bring your favorite controller and you're ready to go. It NEEDS a wall-type charger or it won't charge your iDevice (no, a powered hub won't do it). The only nit that I have is that I still need another cable to power my keyboard. I would have paid a little extra for another USB port that could have powered my keyboard. Small potatoes. Go make music!

Definitely does what it says!
I'm a hobbyist assembling a small home "studio" just for fun. I wanted to control some of my Mellotron iPhone apps with another keyboard (such as my Korg Monologue) and I wanted to send it to either a powered speaker or my rack mixer. Well, mission accomplished. I couldn't get it to work on my official Mellotron app, then I realized it doesn't yet have MIDI. Yikes. Well, both Super Manetron (a single Mellotron lovingly sampled) and Mellowsound by fingerlab work perfectly with the plugKey and "just like that" I'm getting loud 8-voice choir and Violins and Flute. So, for my purposes, it works just fine and the Monologue does the job as a small controller. Had trouble with my Microbrute because it doesn't have MIDI out... But if you're hankering to add a sound like the Mellotron (or any of the other synths) from your phone, this will make you smile. It could be a little cheaper, or maybe come in a double-unit package, lol, but otherwise it's a great solution gadget. --W.D. Gagliani, author of The Judas Hit

Korg nailed it! This is exactly the right device to use iPad as sound module.
I have been through several different dongles, hubs, and adapters hacking together my iPad based synths and sound modules with my PC based DAW. This product is a very low latency solution to sending MIDI out (from a 5 pin midi port on your PC audio interface) and getting back clean audio from the iPad (via the lightening connector). Pro level and high quality signal link for sync, midi remote playing, and recording back the audio via Reason, Ableton, and Waveform. If it also had midi out I'd give it 6 stars!
