Great for 72-hour bag or other emergency stashes. These are intended as (3) 400 calorie servings per day, these are not enough for an active person, but if you are sheltering-in-place, or in a car these are a great option. They have a vacuum sealed foil wrap, and unlike all the others I've seen, these are individually wrapped inside it which is great for keeping them sealed short-term (hours or a couple days) after opening the foil pack. Now, while these will provide the 1200 calories a day, you may not love them. The texture is a bit gritty, kind of like gluten free foods. They did not leave my mouth feeling dry when I was done which was nice, nor were they extremely hard, they were firm enough to not crumble and soft enough to not make your mouth sore trying to take a bite. The flavor was quite palatable with it being relatively bland with just enough cinnamon to not be eating cardboard, but not overdone like chewing a cinnamon stick. I wouldn't have minded a bit more flavor as I like cinnamon, but I'd rather it be a touch on the bland side than over-flavored. As a warning, these are extremely dense and when still in the vacuum packed foil would be a useful substitute for a brick if you need to hit a zombie upside the head.

Just to be clear up front, these are very much emergency rations. They're meant as a last resort to get you through a few days when food is short, but you need to expend energy. The flavor is great, and they're not thirst provoking. The exterior packaging is sturdy and vacuum packing it is a nice touch. The interior plastic coverings are easily opened. Just note that the exterior pack is not resealable. I plan on ordering a few more and they will definitely be a welcome addition to my emergency bags.

Add these to your emergency supplies, the product serves its purpose and this company backs up their products. This is the third time I have had rations from SOS Food Labs and am once again completely satisfied with the product. These saved me from outright hunger last year when a devastating storm hit our state and area. We missed the opportunity to have general supplies on hand at home and were literally stuck in place. Fortunately we had enough of these and for three days survived on them, it took a week for power to be restored and almost five days for our streets and area to be clear. The rations taste good, satisfy hunger and keep you going when you need most. Thanks to the long shelf life, the calories and ease of use, I will never be with out these.

Summary up front: These bars are very tasty and good for their purpose - short term sedentary survival situations. They are not good for long term or more active survival situations. The low price makes this an excellent purchase. With this product is you have to know what you are buying. These are 3600 calories for the entire package. And it's mostly sugar. It says 3 day/72 hours. There are 9 bars in there, so that means 3 bars a day at 1200 calories per day. So with that in mind, these are true survival bars - they are meant to keep you alive in survival situations. Such as on a life boat in the middle of the ocean, stuck in your car during a blizzard, or secluded in your house during a pandemic. You don't need to expend much energy in those situations, and so this is a good use for that. What it is not good for is putting in your "get-home" or "bug-out" bags. In that situation you'll be expending a ton of energy and this being a sugary meal you'll need to be eating every few hours as your body will burn off those easy access carbs very quickly. The packaging on this product is top notch. It is encased is a vacuum seals Mylar wrapper, which makes it air and water tight, and will make it last many years. Then each bar is individually wrapped in cellophane, protecting them for a few weeks once the Mylar has been opened. It also keeps the bars intact over longer periods. The coconut bars are extremely sweet. There is a lot of sugar in them that makes them very easy to eat. They have an oily feel to them but that doesn't linger or have any aftertaste. The consistency is similar to a pressed granola bar such as Nature Valley bars, except the added sugar gives them a more gritty feel when you bite into it. The cinnamon bars are sweet also, have more of a "apple cinnamon" taste to them. They are slightly more crumbly also and a little less oily. Otherwise very similar. Given the low price (at time of writing $7.67 for coconut, $8.99 for cinnamon), this is an excellent value. Most other products are 30-100% more expensive (but generally have less sugar).

My husband and I fall somewhere on the continuum between "cautious" and "paranoid" prepper, so we like to have plenty of emergency supplies on hand. Our previous set of emergency rations had expired, so we were looking for a replacement set. The SOS food rations filled that need nicely. I can't vouch for the taste--we didn't want to waste them by opening them--but they arrived promptly on time. We've got a set in the emergency kits in each of our cars. I hope we never have to use them. I should note that, unlike the experience of some of the reviewers here, our rations all arrived tightly vacuum packed and sealed. No complaints here.

Picked this up for my go bag. The package measures roughly 4.75" x 4.25" x 2" and weighs in at 1.75 pounds! Not sure why the weight surprised me since it is intended for 3-day / 72-hour use. Date code on mine was 08/2018 (purchased in 09/2018). Has a five-year shelf life but probably good well beyond that. Top ingredients are: Sugar, Enriched Wheat Flour, Palm Oil, Corn Starch, Wheat Gluten, Dextrose, Desiccated Coconut preserved with Sodium Metaisulfite, Corn Syrup, Natural Cinnamon Flavoring (and a bunch of other items under 2%).

UPdate: I bought another 4 packages, opened one to taste – Excellent. The ration bars inside each HEAVY pouch are sealed individually in 12 hermetically sealed wrappers, so they stay fresh for days after opening the outer cover. Weeks, actually ... I put them in a Jar. Two weeks and over that period I've only used Four bars. That's using some for at least 4 breakfast smoothies and a couple of small snacks. About a quarter of one bar makes a great snack, and I've added that same amount, all crumbled, to smoothies with fruit, yogurt, icewater, instant coffee -- Great Stuff! 3,000 calories / 12 bars = 250 each, so by that calculation, a quarter-bar is only about 62.5 calories Working in the Games industry in San Francisco Bay Area (company rhyming w the John Wayne Movie "HATARI") it seemed a good time to get some first aid refresher classes, C.E.R.T. training from the local Fire Department, and some emergency kits. Now I'm back in Coastal VA, I want to be prepared for the local varieties of disaster (I did survive the 2011 Virginia Quake!) I ordered the S.O.S. Rations double pack Cinnamon AND COCONUT flavor. Yes --> COCONUT!!!! The packages arrived RIGHT AWAY. It's all I can do to resist the temptation. Oh, ta heck with it. I'm going to order a bunch more as soon as I finish this review. Great Stuff, whether you want'em for dessert or Emergencies! I'm going to open a nice bottle of chianti to go with'em and watch C-span.

Being in the pacific north west, the possibility of an earthquake or a volcanic eruption is very real. Therefore our company created a emergency kit capable of sustaining and protecting all of our employees in the event of an emergency. We developed our emergency kit to include the scenario of having to be sheltered in place for a minimum of 72 hours. This plan includes the need for shelf stable nutrition. These bars are 410 calories each and each package includes 9 individually wrapped food bars that equal 3600 calories. The package containing the bars is vacuum-sealed and can withstand extreme conditions making it good for survival food storage. The bars have a 5-year shelf life if kept in the sealed package. This ration is meant to last for three days in the event of an emergency. At three bars per day, that allows for 1230 calories per person per day. These bars have either a coconut or cinnamon flavor and actually aren't bad at all. They crumble a little once opening them from their packaging, but the taste is still pretty good.

Because of other good reviews I've seen, I took a chance on this product and I'm so glad that I did. I ordered two of them--one to sample and one to store. The packaging on both was rock solid, like a brick. No air, no tears or cuts in the packaging. My first fear was that even though they boast a five year shelf life, the rations would have been packaged 1 or 2 years ago, leaving me only 3 years of guaranteed freshness. This was NOT the case. The rations were made/packaged only a few months ago, so I get a full 5 year benefit. That was awesome. As far as the taste, I found it slightly better than what you'd expect from these kinds of long-term dry rations. They definitely taste better than Datrex bars. Now, I'm not a big fan of coconut and these DO have coconut in them, but to me, it was a tolerable amount, and like the description stated, it was not thirst-inducing. All in all, I'm really glad to got these.

I haven't tried the cinnamon yet, I will update when I do. I bought this 2 pack to see if these products were something I would want to stock up on to have on hand in an emergency. I opened the coconut package to see just how palatable it was, and I was quite surprised. It has a consistency somewhere between a dense animal cracker and a biscotti (not tough or crunchy though). The taste is also somewhere between/similar to those...sweeter than an animal cracker, with more wheat/grain flavor like a good biscotti. My only problem will be limiting myself to three per day, they are sooooo good. This is something I am definitely stocking up on to keep on hand. They are filling, yet compact. I'm not a dietary expert, so I will not comment on the nutrition content.
