Impressed with the chipper so far. It does not like branches that are not dried. It will plug up with wet branches so operator needs to be aware of that. Once it is plugged it can be a little obstinate to get going again. However a thorough cleaning and a few well place cuss words seem to get it going again. The key to any equipment is its longevity and that remains to be seen. Suspect that as long as it is not abused should last quite a while. It sure chews up branches.

I live in a heavily wooded area & always have lots of brush piles. I have been cutting them up & burning them, but I wondered if there was a better use for it all. I wanted a wood chipper, but the gas powered ones were way too expensive for me & I wasn't sure if the electric ones were good enough. I watched many reviews on YouTube about electric wood chippers. I noticed most people don't use these correctly or are trying to push it till it breaks. That's not how I use things, but I found one video where it was actually used properly & that's when I made the decision to get this SunJoe 15 Amp chipper. I have to say I am very impressed, it is more powerful than the videos show. The motor is about as loud as a vacuum cleaner. They are limited to around 1.5 inch thick branches. Anything bigger than that goes in the firewood pile. This chipper eats up small limbs really well. It pulls in limbs as it cuts. They need to be straight & any off chute branches should be cut & fed in on their own. The blades are reversible & replaceable. You will have to chip a lot before they wear down. It comes with a paddle to shove in limbs so you won't try to use your hands. This thing is pretty safe as long as you read the manual & use it correctly. I have been chipping oak, poplar, black locust, beech, sassafras, staghorn sumac, walnut, maple, ash, pine, & wild grape vines. Chipping green bark peeling trees such as poplar can jam up the cutter. Let those trees dry out for a while & then they will chip better. The chips are almost like sawdust & do real well as garden mulch. As long as you have plenty of wood & this machine you won't have to buy mulch ever again. The trick to using this machine is to not feed in bigger limbs at once. Feed them in a little at a time & let the motor rev back up. Shoving it in hard all at once will bog the motor down & cause it not to work right. Also put a container at the base to catch the chips so clean up is a lot easier. Make sure to wear safety glasses & hearing protectors.

If you are like me you have looked at getting a chipper/shredder for some time. From the "cheap electric" to the premium gas/electric. Yes, you can buy an electric chipper for $1000+ (Patriot). BUT when all is said and done you are probably cleaning up a few small branches in the fall, or cleaning up when you trim your bushes. Do not purchase if you think you want to shred leaves. This really is a "branch" kind of thing. The opening is the one downside, albeit bearable. You will need a bucket or a rubbermaid container to catch the chips, or you can just shoot it on the ground. Overall great chipper for the average homeowner.

I trimmed 3 cherry trees and 2 apple trees in my back yard. Needless to say I have a large pile of branches..etc...It did exactly what i thought it would do.....Great wood chips, that I will use in my smoker in months to come . Thank you I would highly recommend this chipper shredder to friends.

This is really a great wood mulcher overall. It seems to work really well at breaking down branches. The only downside is that the opening is so narrow that if the branches you are working with have many small branches or too much of a curve that you will have to do some pre-trimming in order to get the job done with this. I'm sure the opening is the way it is so that someone does not try and shove overly large branches into the shredder past its limits but it does seem to cause problems with properly sized branches. The only other thing that I found that I did not like so much was that it was difficult to put a normal storage tote under the trimmer to catch the trimmings because of the support bar. The plastic storage box I was trying to use kept moving away from the chipper because of the angle of the bar tilting it away from the chipper. It is surprising how small of a pile of mulch comes out of such a large pile of tree branches! Overall though I am glad I bought it.

We had an old 4 in 1 chipper, mulcher, leaf vacuum, and blower. It was heavy and a pain to start, and over the years it got harder to start. The electric chipper makes things so easy. In minutes we're set up and running, rather than the palaver of checking the gas unit would start, then wheeling it over to the pile of sticks and branches. My wife loves the unit, even if its a small pile of sticks from a wind storm the previous day we're happy to do a small chipping job because it's just so easy. On the big branches its nearly as good as the old gas unit, will work on most 1.5 inch branches OK. Struggled a bit on the fir branches, you need to push/pull a bit at the thickest part of the branch, the gas powered one also would struggle on them just not as much. AND most importantly the electric chipper is less than one third the cost of the 4 in 1 unit.

Surprisingly useful! I read the other reviews for purchasing, so I really couched my expectations, and received pretty much exactly what I expected. I purchased this shredder to handle yard and garden waste: pumpkin vines, grape vines, dried okra/corn/sunflower stocks, small limbs, etc.... This shredder does what I expected it would do and it does what I need it to. First the good: -makes a perfect shred for mulching gardens, flower beds, and compost piles. -handles yard debris and smaller sticks wonderfully -it’s electric. No gas required. -super easy to clean Now the bad: -really struggles with stuff over 1”. Yes, you can fit larger pieces into the shredder but I promise you that you will have to feed it in slowly or it will jam. -can be annoying to undo the knob for cleaning out a jam Yes, this unit has some limitations but it would be wrong to compare it to a proper gas-powered chipper. If I had the money to buy a gas chipper to handle 3”+ limbs I would have done so. Gas chippers are, unfortunately for me, rather expensive so until then I’m going to just keep the larger stuff for the fire pit and shred the smaller stuff for my compost pile.

Purchased the Sun Joe because I have 8 large crepe myrtles that I had pruned and had a yard full of trimmings. I am seriously impressed with this electric chipper. Used it for about 6 hours today. It’ll chip anything that fits in the opening. For stuff over an inch and half I would feed a little at time until it got under an inch and a half and then I could let it self feed without any problems. I had purchased another brand that had a stamped steel mini lawnmower type blade it it was completely useless and returned it. This unit has two separate machined blocks of sharpened steel.
