I have two computers and one printer. This Selector Switch allows me the print from either computer with just a push of a button to select which computer I want to print from.

Yes this works with a webcam!

I had no problem getting this to work with a Logitech 920 webcam connected to my two Macs. The only consideration is that webcams are very sensitive to USB cable length. One of my computers is a laptop, so there's a relatively short cable run to the webcam. The other computer is farther away, used as a media server for my tv. For that cable run I used an active USB extension. You need an active extension any time you need to drive a webcam more than a ten feet or so. I had no trouble getting the switch to work with my webcam without the active extension for short cable runs of six feet each. As another reviewer mentioned, all the cables come out the back. That's a nice idea, much better than many of the other USB switches on Amazon that have one or more cables coming out of the front. , The mechanical spring-loaded switches feel well-made and engage with a reassuring click. The only downside to the unit is that the USB-B connectors for the cables to the computers are tight, so that you can plug in the cable but it's difficult to pull it out. And both connectors wobble around as you try to remove the cable. So the manufacturer cut a corner there. But you wouldn't ever need to mess around with the cables once it's set up, so this doesn't seem to be a problem. Another thing I liked about this unit is that it doesn't come with cables. That keeps the cost down. If you already have extra cables lying around, you don't need any more. All in all for the cheapest USB switch on Amazon, this unit absolutely worked for me. Also even though there's only one device port, I had no trouble getting it to work through a USB hub if you need multiple devices and have a hub lying around. However I couldn't get the webcam to work reliably through my hub connected to the switch due to cable length issues. It would certainly work for keyboards and mice.

Mechanical switch and cables all attaching to the back make this the best choice

Works flawlessly and easily. Much better design than another I tried because this one has all the cables going out the back and doesn't bother with lights. With the likely position of the switch being in front or on top of one of the computers, it makes no sense to have cables coming out the front as the other device did, so it' great that this one has all the cable coming from the back. There's also no need for indicator lights which can be either distracting or hard to see if they aren't pointing in the right direction. The mechanical switch used by this device is much better because it's easy to tell which side is engaged both by site and touch.

A Compact & Efficient Device

My wireless AIO printer recently reached the end of it's life cycle and I remembered I had an equally elderly but never used wired AIO in storage, so I brought it out and put it into service. Unfortunately I occasionally need to print from my laptop as well as my desktop and switching the cable bew=tween the two was a hassle. Enter this handy device, the origins of which goes back to my earliest days in the IT world, a sharing switch. These come in many variations but this is the simplest. It connects two devices to one printer. A cable goes from an available USB port on each computer to an input on the back of the switch while a third cable (output) goes to the printer. When I wish to print from my desktop, I elect button 1 on the front of the box and I use the 2nd button for my laptop. Obviously both devices cannot print at the same time but one could start a print job and then the other could add theirs to the printer queue and it would print afth=er the first had completed. It is small, compact and seems quite durable and came with two cables, the assumption being that you already have one cable connecting the computer to an existing device. It was well, but efficiently packed and in perfect condition when it arrived. The installation was extremely simple and totally plug and play. I highly recommend both the gadget itself and this particular as well.

Works great, good value for the money.

This is a low cost switch that allows you to share a USB device between two computers. In my case, I am sharing a wireless keyboard/touchpad combo between two PCs. It works great for that purpose. Just press the button of the computer you want to control, and type away. It doesn't have an LED on it to tell you which computer is selected, but the button that you press stays pressed. I put a label on top so I can tell at a glance which button is pressed in and therefore which computer is controlled by the keyboard. A good value for the money.

Great value to meet my needs

I'm using this to share a large MIDI usb keyboard between a Mac and an iPad, and it works perfectly for me. All switches work smoothly, and although I only needed a two port, I got the 4 port version cuz it was as actually a buck less. Go figure. Its a sturdy metal construction and the connector layout makes for a clean installation. Get some felt pads for the bottom since it has no rubber feet (if you want to protect from slipping or desk scratching)

Works Great!

I purchased this because a coworker my work phased out all "personal" (each device had a printer basically) printers and went with large networked printers one per floor. Essentially we can have them, but we can't have them purchase ink/toner. Long story short and in an effort to be more efficient, we saved one of the old printers but had limited space so we installed it but needed to share it between two computers. This was the exact solution! We each don't print a lot, but the ability to print things right away is great since we have to print on different colored paper for different things and printing on a shared machine would be difficult. The device seems well made and because this solved my problem it gets an A+ from me!

Perfect solution for a simple problem

I wanted to have 2 computers share a common keyboard, mouse, and monitor. The monitor has separate inputs from each computer, so I really only needed a switch for the USB connection for the keyboard and monitor (not a KVM switch). This device accepts only one USB input and switches it to one of two USB output connectors. My keyboard has a USB connector for the mouse, so the USB cable from the keyboard carries the signals from both the keyboard and mouse. The device mechanically switches this input to one of the USB cables going to the two computers. So simple and very effective. No extra bulky video cables I didn’t need. No power connector needed. Perfect solution for a simple problem. Other devices advertised 4 inputs with indicator lights. This device has only one input, and front panel push buttons for the two outputs. When one button is pushed in, the other button pops out, so you can easily see which output is selected, by looking at the buttons. All the connections are on the back, and the push buttons are on the front. I looked at many competing products that had more features that I needed, and most of them had one undesirable feature or another. This one is perfect for the situation I described. I love it.

Great switch for sharing a laser printer!

I recently purchased a Brother LaserPrinter and tried sharing it wirelessly between our two home computers. Every few days the wireless connection would stop working and I was spending way too much time trying to fix it, finally gave up and purchased a long USB cord to run the LaserPrinter directly to one computer's USB input. This worked fine, but when my wife wanted to print from her computer, I had to unplug the USB cord from mine and run it to hers. This Selector switch was the perfect solution; now my wife just pushes a button on the switching box (I gave her #1) and the laserprinter is hers. When I need to print, I push the #2 button and there printer is mine. The box comes with two 6 foot cords; one end fits the boxes square junction (series B), the other end fits standard rectangular USB connectors (series A). I looked at more expensive boxes that supposedly switch you automatically depending on who is signaling to print, but there were frequent comments about long term unreliability of the auto switching feature. It's no big hassle to push a button when you want to print! We both like this solution.

I tried and tried to get one printer to work with both computers on my home network but it never worked. With this splitter switch, you can select the computer that is trying to print and it workes perfectly. You can launch the print and it will stay in the queue until you select that computer and then it will start printing. I selected this manual switch because I did not want to fight setting up the software to do it automatically.
