This trimmer beats both my Stihl and my Echo gas trimmers in all aspects. It has a faster spin, less bog, instant power and higher torque in high grass and weeds. Best of all ZERO emissions. My only complaint would be the smaller trimmer line head. It does not hold as much line as one of the bigger gas trimmers but that is just a minor annoyance.

It has become a mission of mine to replace all my gas powered yard tools with cordless. This trimmer is awesome. I replaced an Echo PAS230 with this and it does everything as well (and easier) even on the lower speed setting. While the manual says you can't edge with it, I do just like I did with the Echo by simply holding the trimmer sideways and get after it, and it does a great job. This trimmer is about 3lbs lighter than my Echo was and just overall seems less bulky. I even like the Makit tap and go head. Many reviewers have said that theirs didn't feed properly and like a couple also said, open the head and check the line winding. Apparently the factory has an issue with the line getting wrapped over itself and then it won't feed. Mine was the same way. Manually rewinding the line cured that issue. I even have an Echo SpeedFeed 400 but I like the Makita head better. It's lighter, slightly smaller and once you wind the line properly feeds just as well. Great tool. So glad I made the switch and battery life is (for me at least) a non issue. I use the 5.0 Ah battery and I usually don't even drop the battery level more than one light. This tool is so much easier than gas powered that I've cut out probably a third of time it use to take me.

This is a much better string trimmer then the comparable Dewalt model. The primary difference is that this one is much more balanced because it has two battery packs on the far end of the tool and does not put the electric motor in the head like the Dewalt. Line advancement is easy and reliable, the line itself is reasonably good quality, and the tool is easy to hold for prolonged periods of time. There are two speed settings, however, neither is comparable to the power of a gasoline powered trimmer. The "rabbit" setting is close, but doesn't quite have the RPMs. I actually like the "turtle" setting because it's still able to trim grass and doesn't throw as many clippings into the mulch. Batteries last forever--I can trim for 20 minutes and they're still 3/4 full.

More powerful than expected, I used 3 amp batteries on low power power and it tore into the weeds! I used it for 30 minutes to test battery life and after 30 min with 3 amp batteries it only used 25% of the battery life. Very light and easy to handle, balance of this weed trimmer helps a lot in it's handling.

I have a lot of other Makita 18v products. So the two extra 5 amp batteries were a nice bonus. They definitely last longer on all my tools than my older 2 and 3 amp. I put the trimmer to the test first time out. My property backs up to a pasture. But the neighbors no longer keep cattle in there. So it is getting overgrown fast. Including with a lot of thorn bushes. I went in there a couple years ago to severely cut back all those bushes. I weed eat their side of the fence line a couple times a year just to make sure they don't come back. Needed the trimmer on high speed to get through the thicker weeds. Which it did just fine. Made a swath 5 to 10 feet wide and had 400 to 500 yards of fence line to cover. I thought I would only make it halfway on one charge. Made it to within 20 feet of the end. The double battery trimmer was obviously more expensive. But in my case definitely worth it. I can get through my normal amount of trimming on my side of the fence in one charge. And no more oil/gas mixture sitting around. No more having to dump it out if it gets stale. No more tugging and tugging. No more carburetor cleaner. No more new carb or new spark plug every couple years. No cleaning or replacing the air filter.

This is another Quality Tool (Set) from Makita, the Trimmer is lightweight and quiet, the Grinder is comparable to many others in the Cordless Grinder market, it's powerful enough to get the job done and having additional Batteries is always a good idea if you're going to be using it a bit, this Set has two Batteries and a Double Charger so you're easily covered, chances are you won't be Grinding and Trimming the lawn at the same time. The Grinder accepts all of my other LXT Batteries too, from Makita Drills and Makita Impact Drivers. I opted to install an after market Trimmer Head over the OEM Head, just a preference. If there's a downside to this Set it's the lack of a Quality Bag or Case for the Grinder. There's a thin Accessory Bag in the Set that contains the Trimmer Attachments and Hardware but I prefer more protection for a Tool (the Grinder) when it's not in use. Overall I'm very satisfied with this addition to the other Makita Tools that I own.

Pros: Makita has more power than my husqvarna. Makita is lighter than my husqvarna. Makita is quieter than the husqvarna. Makita has WAY less maintenance than the husqvarna. Makita will spin backwards which is super useful for edging. Cons: Makita run time isn't as good as the husqvarna (when it still worked) and you need to be near electricity to "refuel" (or just bring extra batteries). The trim head that came with the Makita stock is almost a practical joke and must be replaced if you want to use this seriously.. I put a the T35 head from my husqvarna on this one, which turned Makita into a beast.. Anyone want to buy a busted husqvarna?

Batteries lasted longer than I did! I have about an acre to tidy up and this thing was a beast. Granted, it won't whack down thick, woody sticks or stems, but tall weeds (3ft' or so and up to 1/2 stems) were no match. Wrapped up some garden string, but the reverse feature really made it super easy to remove. I wish it came with a lanyard, but I will improvise something. The packaging was bare minimum and prolly the worst of it all, I really thought I'd have to send it back, but alas, it worked perfectly. Like I said, I went at the weeds for about 45 minutes (only used low power as I was afraid to send the weeds into a low earth orbit) and I still had battery life. I needed the batteries for other tools so this was a great buy.

This weed wacker has (almost) made me forget about gas-powered wackers Seriously, this tool is awesome! I've used it twice, both times leaving it on the low speed setting; it cuts down a mixture of long grass and weeds with ease. Both times, I used freshly charged batteries and the charge lasted about 40 minutes. A little less than stated in the description, but still great considering the amount of work performed in that time. Since I don't know about longevity yet, I can't unequivocally state that I will never buy another gas-powered weed wacker, but I can definitively state I'm very pleased with my purchase. It has great power, good balance and the ease of use is good. What's not to love?

Let me start by saying this is the first bump feed trimmer head I've EVER been able to take apart, re-spool, and get to work properly. I have always just thrown on the Pivotrim head because it's so much easier. I bought this trimmer before really reading just how many negative reviews there were toward the bump feed head. After it had already shipped, and I realized how unhappy people were with it, I went ahead and also bought a Pivotrim head. The trimmer arrived, I put it together and fired it up. Silent and powerful! I live on 10 acres that I do very little to tame, so this trimmer was put to a tough test. I thought the thinner line wouldn't last as long or cut as well. Wrong. I thought the battery wouldn't last as long. Wrong. HOWEVER... It's true, the first couple times I tried to bump some more line out it wouldn't really feed. Uh oh... I took the head apart, knowing there was a good chance I'd never get it back together (the Pivotrim would arrive shortly) and hoped for the best. From the factory the line had been wound in such a way that basically tied it in a knot. It couldn't feed. I took the line off, re-wound it and got the head put back together with unusual simplicity. Fired up the trimmer, gave it a few bumps and it works perfectly. I suspect most of the people out there condemning this trimmer's head also got some kind of knotting of the line in the spool. Again, I'm no bump feed expert, but once I got it re-wound it's been working perfectly. When the Pivotrim arrived I decided to try it out. Even though I was now perfectly satisfied with the factory head, there's no denying the Pivotrim is still much easier. Installation was super simple so I fired it up. I assumed the Pivotrim would weigh less and perform better. WRONG. It seems the Pivotrim is quite a bit heavier because the trimmer just couldn't keep it at full speed when hitting the thicker stuff. I found it needed to be in the fast setting to perform the same trimming I could do with the factory head in low. I would not recommend putting a Pivotrim head on this trimmer. Maybe if there was something similar but much lighter. The moral of this story is this is a great trimmer. The build quality is excellent, and with a minimal amount of tinkering, the bump feed head is the best I've ever used. Maybe I just got lucky, but I don't think so.
