Works very well, excellent battery life...

The assembly was easy and didn't take long. The often stated "critical spacer" by previous reviews was already installed in the rotating head, it did not come as a separate part. After fully charging the battery, it was ready to go. The first time, in a long time using the trimmer, 3/4 of the battery life had been used up on 1/4 acre property. The second time around, 1/2 of the battery life was used on the same property. The battery works with my 1/2" cordless Makita hammer-drill and it's 3A battery works with the trimmer. The charger that came with the trimmer is exactly the same, that the hammer-drill has. The package includes a pretty good quality pair of safety goggles, should strap, and string that already installed. The only minor issues is that trimmer's over all length and shoulder strap is a bit on the short side for tall people.

Works great, My wife did not want to deal with a gas trimmer, but this works for her.

Excellent STring Trimmer!

This purchase was an upgrade from my older Makita Cordless String Trimmer. It was a great purchase. This trimmer gives me longer use time and a much faster cut. My old trimmer was a single string and this one is a double. It is by far the easiest string trimmer to load new string!!! I have cut my time in half by purchasing this product. I will keep adding to my collection of Makita Cordless Tools!!

I love it

I love it so far. I'm using old batteries on medium speed and getting about 30 minutes. It is very quiet compared to a gas trimmer. I'm using it on my lawn and not a field of weeds. I think it would be a poor choice for thick weeds, but for what I'm doing, it works perfectly.

Great trimmer with 3 speeds and good balance, control

The User manual is not well written and it does not include a critical part in the directions. Before you do anything, inspect the packaging and make sure you can locate 2 large washers. One of them is wide chrome plated washer - very ordinary looking. The other one is a critical spacer and trimmer won't work without it installed. The second washer is pictured here - it's is roughly 1 1/2" in diameter and about 1/2" thick. It is quite heavy and it was not show in the user manual. It has two holes on opposite sides that allow you to hold it still and lock the drive shaft while putting on the trimmer head. Assuming you have both of those washers, the unit assembles quickly. I had to charge my battery for 30 minutes, but it worked as advertised after that. It's quiet and the string is very durable - won't break off easily. Make sure you wear the eye protection (included) - I got stuff in my face immediately! It is very stable and I was able to control my cuts exactly perpendicular to the drive shaft, horizontal, vertical, and even over-head. The electronic controls are very helpful and it does turn off automatically after about a minute of non-use. Great features, fast charger, great kit. It's complete.

Light weight it’s great!

Great cordless weed trimmer. Lightweight. Just have a few batteries charged and ready to switch out. Great for small to medium yard.

Powerful and good value.

Great weed walker. Suburban use seems like best application. It’s plenty for yard trimming about an acre. The value is the battery and charger which adds to the Makita family which is anwsome grouping of tools for yard garage and shop.

Impressive! Quiet, smooth and powerful.

This 18V Makita trimmer is AWESOME! I just received mine and used it after quickly charging the battery. I used it for a solid half hour trimming weeds that were thick from all seasons growth. The auto speed control is cool. It automatically senses when the motor is being overworked and increases the rpm to get the job done easier and quicker. Its ergonomically comfortable and a lot of fun to use. I enjoy how quiet it is compared to my old 2 cycle gas trimmer.

YES! NO MORE TROUBLE!

No start problems, quiet, almost tangle free. Once you get use to it, it makes all the gas motor trimmers look sad. This is the way things should be. Makita products perform and last. It does take some learning at the beginning which is well worth the time spent. No more start and run problems of the gas trimmers! What a pleasure!
