Best PS4 Model Yet - Quieter, Cooler, Thinner
I have owned both the launch PS4 and the C-Chasy revised PS4, as well as the original X1 and the X1 Slim. For this review, I will only compare the PS4 Slim to the 2 previous PS4 SKUs (shiny left top and dull left top). If you have owned one of the previous PS4s, the Slim is noticeably quieter when downoading games or playing games from the hard drive. When playing games from a disc, the drive noise is about the same as the C-Chasy PS4 (also about the same as the X1 drive noise). In terms of thermals, the launch PS4 was slightly cooler than the C-Chasy PS4 and the Slim is considerably cooler to the touch on the top of the unit than either of the previois versions. Where the C-Chasy model felt hot to the touch, the slim is just warm. On thermals and queitness, the slim is by far the best PS4 to date. The slim also has some nice additions that weren't found in the previous models. For one, the HDD is easier to replace in the slim. Simply remove a small l-shaped plastic strip from the back corner and you can access the drive. It took me about 4 minutes to replace the drive and begin the SW update. Another nice touch is the see through light strip on the new DS4. I didn't think I would like this at all but afyer using the new controller it makes the once annoying light bar somewhat beneficial. On a performance level, the slim is the same as all PS4s. That is, they all play the same games and there is no difference in graphics, loading, etc. The PS4 Pro should provide faster loading times and semi-improved graphics on non-4k displays. The PS4 Pro is primarily for those who have or are going to buy a 4K TV though. So, recommendation time: if you don't have a PS4 and don't have a 4K TV, buy a PS4 Slim. If you have a 4K TV or are buying one soon, wait to see reviews on the PS4 Pro. If you have the C-Chasy PS4 and everything is working fine, there is no real reason to buy the slim. If you have the launch PS4 and it's too noisy for you, the slim may be an improvement worth considering but by no means necessary.

Portability and Price
I Have a slim and pro. Both play the same games and very very close graphics in my opinion. Really see very little diff on 1080p tv. Even 4k with pro tough to see difference unless your 3ft or less away. If there is one absolute advantage with the slim is that it can be portable. Road trips or vacations is an easy pack. Again, I've got both and wish I never spent the extra dollars for the pro.

I thought customer service experience was going to be bad, because I am use to talking on a ...
Purchased this product back in July of this year (2017). This was a 2nd PS4 I had picked up, one for my partner & one for myself. I used credits on this purchase. When I purchased this Sony Playstation 4, It was during a promotion that came with console, uncharted a theifs end 4, and 1 controller, and 2 promotional keys. One key was for The Last of Us: Left Behind Stand Alone, and another was for comiXology, a site with dozens of comic books. Of the codes I gave the extra game to my partner, and with the comic book site I gave that to a friend of mine as I dont really read comic books anymore as I have other hobbies that keep me busy. So I am not new to Sony Playstation, I am that type of gamer who once was a hardcore gamer who up to this point has played on almost every video game console to a PC. I chose to purchase a PS4 mainly because I missed playing some old school games I use to play on my PS1(original grey unit) and PS2(black unit), I never played games on a PS3, and will be honest I must not have done enough research on the PS4 slim when purchasing it, I found some info online, and after pruchasing I contact Sony Support for the console just to pick the customer service reps brain a bit on the console and got to say, I thought customer service experience was going to be bad, because I am use to talking on a phone not through chat. Either way I had a good experience on chat support. So the purchase was not 100% bad, I can not play twisted metal or some the older games on it, unless you purchase another subscription for that, which allows you to stream games on console and play that way if I am not mistaken. So right now I decided not to get any suscriptions I merely just play actual games from the bluray discs on the system itself in my free times when not gaming on a PC or Xbox. Typically people will post there pro's and cons with the system or product. In my situation and many may be looking for this as well, my main issue I have with PS4 slim is the compatibility, I wish at some time if not now, maybe the future, Sony decided to make the jump like its competitors and make games backward compatible, dont carge a subscription fee, just make it backward compatible. that is what stops some from moving foward and getting the system, I typically would not have gotten it, but because I had credits is the only reason why I did. Now do not get me wrong, I dont hate nor dislike sony as I use to be part of their research panel before it was disbanned long time ago, but I just dislike that the most that I can not play old school games without having to pay extra fee for subscription. Sony Playstation has some great ideas out there, but in opinion and not here to offend anyone on how I think as this is my reivew, but problem is with all these subscriptions and costs, it seems as if rather than putting their customer's first they are putting their pockets first. Yes companies got to make money, but they need to look at their competitor and see how they can improve and put themself on top, be different from their compeitors. Overall Happy with my PS4!

It's definitely worth it
Love it. The graphics are great don't see the point in spending more money for the PS4 pro for the purpose of having 4K. ( bought new)

PS4 Christmas happiness!!
Grandma rocked the house when she presented the gift to her grandson for Christmas. This was definitely the gift of the holiday. All the grown kids wanted one as well. But the grandchild got it!! Ha ha!!! This was such an awesome deal and it made my 11 year grandson so happy!

PS4 Slim 500GB with "Uncharted 4" full-disc game included. AND on-sale for $269...Yes please!
I bought it on-sale, for $269. It's a nice console, so far. If you take into account, the price of the bundled game, Uncharted 4 (about $40), I only really spent about $230 for the console, with a controller. It's very small, and very light. Runs quiet & cooler than the regular PS4. The only thing I would mention, for you to be aware, is that it does NOT have digital optical audio-out, but I don't need that feature, so I don't care. The HDMI works just fine, for me. Also, for what it's worth, I couldn't justify buying the PS4 Pro version for $150 more, when my TV upscales games to 4K well enough to make it nearly impossible to see any real difference between this console and the Pro anyway. This unit also has HDR, so it looks pretty impressive on a 65" 4K TV. I've only had it for a few days, so we'll see how well it holds up, over time. If I have any issues, later, I'll edit this review.

Slick Slim
Sony hasn't made the transition to a PS4 particularly easy for PS3 owners. As everyone reading this knows, the software is incompatible between the two machines because of the radically different architecture, and it sounded as if there were some initial issues concerning the PS4 game and video controllers. Sony was also pushing the PS4 as a "hard-core gamer" platform, as opposed to the one-box media player the PS3 and XBox One were positioned as. But the form factor of the new Slim model, accompanied by the price drop and inclusion of Uncharted 4 here, pushed me over the edge. I traded in all my PS3 stuff to GameStop (for pennies on the dollar -- GRRR), cashed in a few GS Gift Cards I still had in my wallet, and brought this sweet little puppy home yesterday. The good news is, aside from the incompatibility issue, the PS4 is a splendid replacement for a PS3. The PS4 Slim is a bit smaller than the PS3 Slim and seems to run cooler. Though I have only played U4 for two hours or so as I write this, the game does NOT disappoint. I loved the previous Uncharted games, and I love this one. The controls are intuitive and easy to learn. The graphics are spectacular. It is always clear what Drake needs to do and where he needs to go, and hints are available if a puzzle stumps you. Why can't ALL games be this good??? On the media box front, I was pleased to discover that the PS4 does almost everything the PS3 did. It doesn't play CD's, but using the free Media Player app available at the PS store, you can play music using a USB device. You can also stream Amazon, Netflix, YouTube, Crackle, Hulu, and various other video channels. For music, you have Spotify (I don't like streaming services that limit sound quality unless you subscribe -- PHOOEY) and something called "I Heart Radio," which is NOT as good as the streaming radio service the PS3 supported. IHR doesn't seem to have any public radio stations, for example. Wassup wit dat? I was also pleased to find that the optional PDP Media Controller works well, at least for streaming and playing discs. When playing discs, you have full motion control -- play/pause, jump to next or previous chapter, frame-by-frame advance or reverse, slow-motion, and variable-speed fast forward and rewind. YEA! Am I a happy camper? Yes, I am! As for the new Dual Shock 4 controllers, they charge in two hours or less (the light bar glows a pulsing orange until fully charged) and seem to run for several hours on one charge. I did turn the light bar down in the options menu to conserve energy. As I write this, I have downloaded some of the Pinball Arcade tables from the PS store and am sorry that the developer, Farsight, didn't give PS3 owners a better deal on the upgrade. I have also ordered DriveClub, which is just the kind of arcade open-road racing game with real supercars that I like. Prime will be delivering this on Monday, and I can't wait. Setup was mostly easy. About fifteen minutes downloading the latest firmware and a little trouble gaining network access (my fault -- I wasn't properly highlighting the "Done" or "Okay" command after inputting my password). Otherwise smooth sailing, once I had sorted out the new user interface. So in summary, PS3 owners who have been holding out on upgrading to the PS4 may want to pull the trigger on the Slim -- unless you're keen on VR or 4000K. Happy game and media playing! PROS: * Excellent graphics. * Better controllers than those on the PS3. * Full complement of media capabilities. * Runs cooler than PS3. * Compact form factor. * Now more affordable. * Includes the spectacular Uncharted 4 game. Drake for President! CONS: * Software incompatible with PS3. * Doesn't play CD's. * Doesn't play "unfinished" DVD-R's or RW's. * Streaming radio channel inferior to the one on the PS3. UPDATE: One video shortcoming the PS4 currently suffers from is the inability to play "unfinished" DVD-R's or RW's. That means it won't play DVD-RW's that you made on your computer of files that you own fair and square. The PS3 DID play these discs, and I hope Sony will update the PS4 DVD Player firmware sooner than later to play these computer discs. I would have to say this is my number one complaint about the PS4 currently.

Excellent upgrade from the PS3 super slim
Excellent upgrade from the PS3 super slim. I love this system and the controller. The GUI is a little laggy at times but for the most part it's a pretty smooth experience. The messaging is also kinda slow too but I don't use it much. The console looks beautiful and runs quiet & cool. I love the blacked out logo in the middle and the sleek smooth design overall. The small light bar on the power button is perfect. The 2 USB ports are perfect. I use one USB port for my Turtle Beach headphones transmitter and the other to play music off a flash drive. There is no optical audio output so the solution is to use your TV's optical audio output, if it has one. Most modern TV's do but most monitors don't if you game on a monitor. I am using Turtle Beach stealth 400s with no issues. I can also use them for my PC, TV and movies too if I want without switching out cables because the audio is always coming from the TV. I also have a optical audio splitter that is connected to my TV's optical audio out that allows me to have my turtle beach headphones and my receiver connected to a single Optical audio output at the same time. I also added rubber feet to the 4 corners of the PS4 to raise it up a little for better airflow and it allows the optical cable to sneak underneath it from the TV and up into the Turtle Beach transmitter. I have an Official Sony DS4 charging cradle and a Power A cradle that plug into an AC outlet to charge my controllers. I bought an extra controller because the battery doesn't last very long, about 6 hours. The controllers are sooo nice though. Setup is a breeze. Making an account is easy and the price for PSN is reasonable. I have played Call of Duty MWR, Uncharted 4, Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry and NBA Playgrounds. All great games. I plan on expanding my library little by little. Just Pre-ordered COD WWII. PS4 only BETA starts 8/25/17 @ 1 p.m.!!! Highly recommend this console. Game on!

Pretty happy with this overall.
I bought this during Prime day, and I wish I had chosen this over my XBox One. Don't get me wrong, the XB1 isn't a bad console, and I'll be keeping mine. But mine hasn't been reliable with keeping me signed in. On the flipside, this PS4 hasn't acted up once since I started using it. While I don't play online with it...yet, it doesn't sign me off and give me error messages like the XB1 does, and other online servers like Netflix start up no problem on my PS4, which isn't the case on my XB1. While I prefer the ergonomics of the XB1's controller, I like the features of the PS4's controller. The other day, I sent a message to someone on my Friend list, and was delighted to see that I was able to use the controller's touch pad to select letters on the on-screen keyboard. Very cool, Sony. Very cool. Buuuut, yeah, the battery life with the PS4's controller is still abyssal, and I really haven't played the console much in the few weeks I've had it, yet I've had to charge the controller a few times already! In comparison, the XB1's controller lasts a respectable time with a good set of batteries in it. And my Wii U's Pro controller? That thing lasts for MONTHS, literally, on a single charge. Overall, I'm really satisfied with my PS4, and it's slowly getting me back into gaming often since I don't have to struggle with it not launching games or apps because of sign in issues.

PlayStation Makes Gaming Easier
A lot of people have biases about the certain games, and that's what persuades them to pick particular video game consoles. Having switched from a PC to a Playstation 4 I can safely say that the games aren't the reason that I switched. By far the PlayStation 4 is probably the easiest and most accessible console I've ever owned. Everything is laid out in front of you and extremely easy to use, music is interfaced directly from a quick menu by holding the PlayStation button, and otherwise anything that needs to be changed is accessible through the easy-to-use menu display. Overall accessibility with Spotify is a little spotty, but it's made up well for the interconnectivity. Yes game should be important when you're choosing your console choice, however the ease of access for anyone to pick up and go on a PlayStation makes it that much more worth it in my opinion. Versus PC gaming, PlayStation makes it a lot more simplified to pop in a game and get running with it, though the wait times for updates tend to be a bit ridiculous when it comes to new games.
