Great system that actually works
It has been about 6 nonths since I purchased and installed the Guardline 1/4 mile driveway alarm. I installed mine in a small wood enclosure to help protect it from the weather(rain) here on the Oregon Coast and to blend into the wooded area. The syncing of the detector to the base unit was very easy and overall installation only took about 1/2 hour. This included testing and aiming the detector. Some reviews mentioned short battery life. I have my base unit plugged into AC. The detector is still on the original batteries. Now to how it works. I have mine set up just inside the gate to our property, about 150 yards from the base unit. The driveway is lined on both side by pine trees and bushes. As far as I can tell, it has not had any false alarms. It has not missed any vehicles or people coming through the gate. It does pick up larger animals such as deer, as well as small animals such as cats and dogs. I am considering purchasing more detectors to watch otherparts of our acreage. I highly recommend this system. I had tried o5er cheaper and less expensive systems but they all failed my expectations.

"Over the hills and through the woods..."
As I write my review, my Guardline has been installed for two months now. I have a 22 acre tract of land on the outskirts of town and we have had too many scoundrels either entering our gate (on rare occasions when I leave it open) or odd people simply pulling into the 200 foot entrance off the narrow road that terminates at our gate. Our house is another 400 feet past our gate. I installed this on a 4x4 inch metal tube resembling the same material that the 200 foot entryway is made of and I placed it behind the gate, aimed at a 30 degree angle and this gate is 16 feet wide with welded wire panel on the back side. Now, when someone pulls into the two hundred foot long entrance BEHIND this gate, I get a warning. It worked so well for me, that I purchased two more remote sensors to place at another gate we have going to a barn on another part of the property. I have one small problem with this device. It can send "false signals" when it is windy and blowing vegetation can trigger the alarm BUT I plan on removing the vegatation (actually tall annoying weeds) and I'm fairly confident this will work to reduce the false alarms. We have had a few things stolen here in the past, but now that I'm here nearly all the time, I'll have a better idea when a "scoundrel" is lurking around my entrance area. I hope to make a short video to add to my review later. Please note, I am NOT a Vine reviewer, I was not compensated for my review (and I refuse to accept bribes or discounts) and I paid full price for this product. (When I was a kid, I loved the song "Over the hills and through the woods to grandmothers house we go, so I used part of that song as my title for my review, because this little rascal indeed, sends a warning through a lot of trees we have here and a very modest hill that I thought would cause this product to not work as advertised...)

Excellent!
Wow!! This exceeded our expectations! Our driveway is 1/4 mile long. We placed the "eye" (sensor) about 1/3 of the way from the road towards our home. It works GREAT! In fact, last night, at 10 PM, it went off. My husband took a beam flashlight outside and found 3 deer in a field, directly in front of the sensor, but 30-50 ft away. I hope that doesn't happen in the middle of the night, but if it does, it's worth it to have the extra secure feeling it brings, knowing it's that sensitive. The volume can go VERY loud, which is good, because I'm hard of hearing and have to wear hearing aids. I don't wear them at night so I keep the alarm box near by and turned up so I will hear it. I purchased an extra sensor and have it near my front door with a different chime. Now that we know this is well worth the investnent and actually WORKS, we plan on getting more sensors for other parts of our property, including placing one inside the garage. And yes, you can turn it OFF if there is no need for it to be on all the time. It was easy to set up and the sensor has a "visor" across the typo that will hopefully stop snow and ice from covering it. Also, this sensor, as compared to the sensor that was left by the previous home owner, will not get covered with cobwebs. The one she left behind was tunnelled so as to keep snow and ice out.... but it was a great place for spiders!

Finally Found One That Works!!!
Having lived back long lanes for many years, we have tried many other driveway alarms and had given up finding one that really works. We decided to give this one a try based on the great reviews and we are very glad we did! We nailed the sensor to a tree alongside our driveway. The receiver in the house is about 400' from the sensor and it has worked like a charm! Granted, we have received a few false alarms but we do have quite the wildlife around us (deer, fox, raccoons, skunks, coyotes) so are pretty sure those critters have been the cause of the "false" alarms. In fact, the other morning at 6:00 a.m. when the alarm went off, we looked out the window to see two deer happily frolicking circles around the tree the sensor was on! Anyway, we are thrilled with this driveway alarm and are anxious to see how long it holds up but have every confidence it will keep performing as it is now!

To my amazement, this works and works really well!
Update 4/1/2017: Absolutely 100% reliable gate alarm. Not one false alarm which is amazing in and of itself. It has never failed to detect a vehicle coming or going out our gate. I have only a very minor issue - the receiver is, how shall I word this.. ugly. It's an oddly shaped design but I can live with it. The performance of it more than makes up for its odd shape. Original review: Our gate is exactly 600' from the front door of our house and I have never found a "long range" driveway alarm that lived up to advertising hyperbole. Until now. We live on a ranch with all kinds of critters wandering around and this alarm has not given a false alarm in the four days it has been installed. It has detected every vehicle at our gate. I have the sensor set to the lowest sensitivity (13') and it points down.

Works great!
I have had this installed in my driveway for about a month. Living rural in the woods I was afraid this unit was going to give false alerts and go off in the middle of the night freaking me out. I am very happy to report this unit has not given a single false alert since installed. It has been through a few significant summer storms too. I like getting the immediate audible chime when someone pulls in the driveway, even before my security camera has a chance to send me an alert. I have it mounted to a tree that is about 14" in diameter about 3.5 feet off the ground, roughly 150 feet from the receiver. It has functioned wonderfully. I was impressed with how many settings can be configured to fine tune for a particular installation. My only request is that they would have programed more "basic" chimes into the unit rather than the numerous "songs". There are 2 basic chimes, which is sufficient, but having more basic ones would be welcome.

Works great at a distance of approximately 150 feet from the receiver; the sensor/transmitter will trigger on anything within 30 to 40 feet. Be aware it will trigger on moving branches (I adjusted my sensor down so it would not trigger on the trees across the driveway). Having done that, I have had it trigger on cats, squirrels, possums, raccoons, and grey foxes (I live in the country so I get a bit of wildlife). Based upon other reviews, I sealed the seams of the sensor with silicon seal to prevent moisture intrusion prior to mounting on the driveway.

Best long range driveway sensor I've used yet - and I've used a lot! Makes up for the silly alarm sounds it comes with.
This unit is the best driveway indicator I've used - and I've tried a lot over ten years on this 4 acre, densely wooded property! I originally bought the less expensive 500' range version of this product but returned it immediately because it was inadequate for the distance and many trees it had to travel through to get to my house. I decided to give the more expensive 1/4 mile range version a shot and I'm glad I did! there is a profound and wonderful difference in its performance. I have it way out of sight, about 600' through dense woods and down a grade. It reliably indicates cars coming and going and has very few false alarms. I currently left my previous system in place, the more expensive, Dakota long range sensor, also sold on Amazon. I installed this device even further away than the Dakota and with both units in place. With both units on, I can clearly see that the more expensive and more closely placed Dakota alarm misses about 10% of the cars while this unit, further away and less expensive, never missed one! I don't know how battery life will hold up since I've had it for only a month, but I am very pleased. The unit comes with the ability for four distance zones each with their own adjustable warning sound. My only small criticism is that I wish there were more useful 'alarm' or 'doorbell' sounds in the selection and fewer silly sounds, as most of the sounds are like hokey little tunes from a 1998 cell phone. These are sounds I don't I want to hear every time a car comes or goes. I found one basic ding-dong sound and it's fine. If you have a long or congested path between your driveway and your home or office, this product will most reliably go the distance, based on the 6 different products I've tried through the years. Well done!

Quick, easy installation. Dependable, long-range performance.
I have a longer driveway with a steep hill and a 90 degree corner. We often had visitors and deliveryman showing up on our doorstep without warning. I needed something to give us some warning that could reach up the hill, around a corner, through a garage and into the house. While this sensor may be a bit more expensive than others, the ease of installation and its performance justify the extra cost. I was able to install this quickly and easily (95%of my time was spent on setting a post to mount it on, but even with the post digging and setting, the whole thing took less than 40 minutes). The unit comes set up and ready to go. Install batteries, mount to a post or tree and you're done. You have a choice of 32 chimes to choose from and changing chimes, sensitivity and other settings is easy to accomplished. The directions are easy to follow, straightforward, and were obviously written by someone who speaks English. The diagrams are accurate, detailed and useful. I didn't need any assistance from their technical support, but it was good to see they do their own tech support from Seattle. Once installed, all I had to do was plug in the inside receiver (it has batteries too, if you don't want to plug it in) and it was functioning perfectly. I have no problems with reception, despite the distance from the house (several hundred feet) the fact that it is at the bottom of a steep hill and the signal has to pass through our garage to get to the house. It works perfectly. Now we have ample warning of vehicles or people coming up our driveway. I think I may buy another sensor and link it to this receiver so I can have a different chime when someone actually comes onto the front porch. All-in-all, I'm very satisfied with our purchase and highly recommend this to friends, family and neighbors.

EXCEPTIONAL SYSTEM
I purchased this item to provide an indoor audible alert whenever anyone enters and approaches our home via our driveway. The driveway winds about 500 feet through natural growth - some of which is quite dense with trees and bushes - sufficiently dense that the front of our driveway is not visible from the house. This device works absolutely beautifully! I was concerned at first that the shrubs and trees combined with the long distance between sensor and receiver would force me to place the receiver near a window at the front of the house. That proved to be a non-issue. The system worked correctly with the receiver at any point inside the house -- even in our back yard. Note that the in the back yard the entire house is between the receiver and the sensor. We have an electrically controlled steel gate at the street end of the driveway but occasionally we leave the gate open if we are expecting company or if we are waiting for a service person to arrive at the home. This system provides an excellent "heads-up" to all arrivals. We also routinely receive packages that have been ordered online. The delivery person normally leave the packages at the gate. The sensor has been placed at the front of the driveway in a way that provides an audible alert whenever the delivery person walks up to the gate or the outside keypad -- this system allows me to retrieve packages within minutes after they are delivered and saves me from having to walk over 1000 feet round-trip to check on package arrivals. Highly recommended!
