I just purchased my second color bulb. Also have two white ambiance in the bedroom and two white lights in the TV room. First, you have to buy a Hue Bridge to get these to work. The Bridge is a one time purchase that will support up to 50 lights. Second these are expensive but giving the product a bad review because of the price is ridiculous as is giving a bad review because a Bridge is required. Finally you have to have an internet signal to the light for it to work. Now for the lights themselves. I have these in multiple rooms, have moved lights around, and made multiple changes to the way I grouped these in the app. All of mine have worked flawlessly. We use the Echo Dot throughout our home and the lights are simple to control via Alexa as long as you use the correct name (remember a table lamp and a table light are different to Alexa). So what can you do with the Hue lights? Turn lights on/off remotely from your phone. Set colors to accent a room (great for football games using team colors). Set lights to come on when your return home so you don't have a dark house - I have mine turn when my phone shows I'm about a mile away and limit to turn on only after sunset. Just purchased a $2 app that had a fireworks program and changes the lights to your music. Adjust the colors, shades of white, and brightness from the app or through Alexa. My suggestion is to pick an area yo want to try and get a starter kit with a couple of lights. If you are like me, you will quickly come up with new ideas to add more lights to other rooms.

I started out with just wanting to have an IKEA tower light able to be dimmed and then decided to fill it with colored lights. Very glad I did. It soon became a bit of an obsession, where now every light in my apartment is Hue, which is over 50 lights. For my bathroom and office, I didn't go with colored bulbs. I'd tried colored ones in the bathroom at first but found I never wanted them so I moved those to other rooms. There are fun apps that my niece and nephews love to play with that do light shows (OnSwitch is their favorite). I've attached an image I'd put together when I first started playing with them. I combine them with the Philips Hue Tap Switch that I keep by the couch so I can quickly switch the room to presets. I have motion sensors in hallways (because who ever flips the light on then back off at the other end?) and have them set to switch on dimmer at night to find my way to the bathroom without blinding me. I've attached some extreme examples but most of the time I just have the colors set to an autumn sunset feel, not quite so dramatic. I like that during the day, you can change the color temperature to match sunlight so your lights match the light from outside, almost like skylights.

Great set of lights to use with Alexa. Be aware a Philips Hub is required to use it alone or with Alexa (Alexa talks to the hub). Cool feature is creating scenes. You can change the color of any light and the amount the light is dimmed. A few presets come with it but you can put the lights in a few lamps and then create a scene that is all blue lights, all green lights or mix and match the colors (one that comes with it is called sunset that has one light dimmed and one light an orange red.) To change scenes you go to the app and select the scene and it will change instantly. One thing I did find is if you want to adjust things it might be easier to just create a new scene and delete the old one (the changes don't always stick at least for now)

I am a huge fan of the Phillips Hue Light Bulbs having many bulbs inside my home. Phillips has come out with a range of outdoor lights and fixtures, but none of their current offerings work for my current needs. My outdoor lights fit under the eaves of my roof. These sockets use standard A19 bulbs. Although using these bulbs outdoors are not recommended because they are not sealed against moisture, they can be used, if the bulb is sufficiently protected. I think mine is because they fit into a fairly tight enclosure. Another reason why Philips doesn’t recommend using its indoor Hue bulbs outdoors is that of the heat during the summer. Philips Hue bulbs already run pretty hot when they’re used in your home, so using them outside where it can easily reach 90 degrees simply makes these bulbs run even hotter, and can shorten the lifespan of the bulb. The winter months in my area is not a factor because the temperature really gets below 20 degrees, but the summer months can be above 100 degrees. I am anxious to see how the work during the summer. They will be on at night where the temps will be lower, but time will only tell. As LED's, the wattage is low about 9.5. As you can see from the photos, I have them installed. The bulbs connected easily to the Phillips Hue Hub. My setup has the Wi-Fi router connected to the Phillips Hub with both located by a street facing the front window. Using the downloaded Hue app allows the bulbs to be control by an Android or iOS device connected to the internet. An Internet connection is required to control changing the colors setting scenes and dimming the lights. I created my Christmas scene by making alternating colors of green and red and saving them in a sunset to sunrise routine. Using the app is very straightforward and easy to use. I also have the bulbs paired with a Google Home. If you have an Amazon Echo or Google Home device you also have voice control to turn the bulbs on or off, dim the lights and change the colors.

Okay. This is coming from a total geek perspective. I’m a techie, I love automating things via cool gadgets. I finally had saved enough money to purchase a set of hue lights... I have 4 bulbs, 2 strips and 3 blooms. And wow! It’s changed my entire environment... it’s a bit pricey but if you’re into creating some mood for your home, Phillips Hue is the best.

Good lights. I have 8 around the living room and kitchen. Me and the wife have disco-nights where we get the hue-disco app fired up and boogie to bohemian rhapsody turned up LOUD. We live way out in the sticks and have few other entertainment options.

I love these. If you try them, you might just get hooked, so be warned. The best thing for me really is the ability to do colors. One light, and it can be any color. Don't waste money on the white only versions even though they are typically 1/2 to 1/3 the price. The color can be great in mornings/evenings and around holidays. Put them in the kids rooms and they love them. Partnered them with Alexa on an echo dot and the system is great. Occasionally some quirks (especially with color scenes), but it really is great the things you can do with it. Note: I have seen the 4-bulb starter kit go on sale. Even though you don't need an extra hub once you have one, that kit is sometimes sold for $140 for 4 bulbs, while the individual bulbs hover around $47/50 (as of Dec. 2017). I did get a great deal on some individuals ($32 each) but then it was as if amazon saw me buy it at that price, and wouldn't let me have it again (lol. they're conspiring against me bc they've hooked me. I buy it 4 bulbs at that price then NEVER see that price again. lol). Anyway, check the starter pack for a sale. Yes, costly, but I think you'll be happy. It remains to be seen if they really have the LED life expectancy or not. But when you think of all the things in your house and life to bring peace and enjoyment, why not be able to infinitely adjust your lights. Seems a bit archaic that we've waited this long for light bulbs that could be any color in an lamp in the house.

A fantastic light for setting a mood. Soft blue or orange is wonderful for a background for some TV viewing. Hallways and bedrooms are great with dimmed yellow lighting. What I love most is that these lights require no special wiring. They just twist in like an ordinary bulb. A hub accessory tells the bulb what to do, making everything very simple. The lights can be turned on and off, and dimmed or brightened, with an app. They can also be controlled with a Hue wireless remote dimmer, Philips Hue Dimmer Switch with Remote (Installation-Free, Exclusive for Philips Hue Lights). It gets really amazing when you add the Amazon Echo to the set. Without rising from your chair, you are in command of color and brightness with simple voice commands. Lights can be controlled in groups or individually with voice via the Echo or using the app. We have added the motion sensor to our bathroom lights to have soft light come on at night if anyone stops by there. Using the app, each light can be set to turn on or off at preset times. Great for having the lights already on when arriving home on the late side. I had mistakenly thought to have lights with these capabilities, extensive wiring modifications would be required. I guess those are days gone. The most physical thing needed for these is the ability to screw in a lightbulb. I found that as great news! Send for one or two of these, make sure you also have the Hue hub, and you'll soon kick back having some lighting fun. Here is a link to the hub, Philips Hue Bridge (Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant). A simple way to take charge of your home lighting.

I waited on these since they were released. I couldn’t see why I would want to buy them at all. Until, I got a white one with an Amazon Echo package deal..... The new Echo can serve as a hub......and control these bulbs......a little. I read that the Hue hub did more......and the package for four of these bulbs and a hub was on sale. I’m now amassing bulbs. I’m embarrassed at how much money I have spent lighting my home. It makes zero economic sense...... But, WOW! I have scenes for Morning that wake me up softly and shift to an energizing bluish light. I have gentle red glows fo movie night. My colors shift to less blue in the evening.......and I honestly think it’s improved my sleep. I give zero thought to what I “wasted” on these bulbs. They improve my life in multiple ways. My kids simply ADORE them, and play with their own scene creation. Even my light switch shutoff compulsion is better.....because they shut off automatically when I leave.

I have tried so many of these Color and White smart bulbs both requiring a hub and hubless, and Philips Hue is by far the best. I now have 6 of the colored Hue lights and about 12 of the white ones, and they are fantastic. The Hue software is always evolving and getting better, and the lights just look better overall. I can use Alexa, Apple Homekit, or the App to control the lights, but most of the time they are just on timers and go on and off multiple times during the day when needed, and the colored ones change depending on the time of day, with them being a nice bluish light in the morning and a warm orange or yellowish hue in the evenings. I'm not sure what I can say about these that hasn't already been said but I've tried at least 6 different brands of the generic hubless color lights and yes they technically work but they all have their own apps and quirks. Most work with the Echo, but almost none of those work with Homekit, and are a hassle to set up and use. The color quality also isn't as good. The longest I've had one of these color Hue bulbs is about a year and it's working great, even in an enclosed light fixture. They do get warm when on for a while, but not hot, and I am not seeing any degradation over time. The older bulbs look just like the new ones, and the color is very consistent between bulbs. It's really amazing to touch a button on an app and change the whole room (or house) to a certain color, and with Hue Labs you can do experimental features like colors blending into one another, although personally I think that should be a feature of the main app. Great product, I won't hesitate for a second to give this 5 stars, which is something I've been a lot more cautious about lately in my reviews. Yes, they are pricey, but they are totally worth it. If you buy one a month, you will slowly be able to transform your house and add as much or as little color as you want. It's really impressive looking, especially to someone who hasn't seen this type of lighting before. These lights also work well with motion sensing, and as wake up lights, there is a lot you can do with them. I won't buy any other brand now. These are the best.
