I live in New Hampshire and purchased these Whole Mealworms (5 pound bag) for my winter birds that come to my bird feeders. This winter I have had a flock of Bluebirds (about 15), yes you heard that correctly, BLUEBIRDS in New Hampshire in January! They are insect eaters and absolutely love these Mealworms! To me it's worth every penny to keep my Bluebirds happy! I've priced these mealworms at my local Pet Food Store, hardware store, etc., and their prices were three times the cost of these! My package arrived within 48 hours of ordering it and the quality is exceptional! If you feed your birds and want to attract different types I highly recommend investing in these mealworms!

I give Picky Neb dried mealworms my highest rating and endorsement. I have purchased these mealworms several times over the past couple of years and I can say adding them to my feeding stations has definitely increased the number and variety of birds that visit my yard. This is especially true in the winter and spring, during migration and breeding seasons. I live in west central Florida, north of Tampa. I have fed birds in my yard for many years. Previously I was feeding a variety of seeds, with a base of black oil sunflower seeds and blend in some assortment of striped sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, millet, milo, peanuts, cracked corn and suet pellets (depending on what’s available in local stores). Of course, I also offer watering stations. I add suet feeders and offer a variety of dried fruits, more types of nuts, sliced fresh fruit and jelly in the winter and in breeding season. I add Niger seed when the goldfinches migrate through the area. Year-round this brings me what I call “the usual suspects” – mostly cardinals, tufted titmouses, house finches, mocking birds, red bellied woodpeckers, mourning doves and ground doves, plus a few species of resident LBBs (“Little Brown Birds”) – some mix of wrens, warblers, sparrows, finches and other small birds that can be hard to distinguish from one another when they’re flitting around in the trees). I noticed that I had eastern bluebirds in my area. I would see them hunting for insects in a large, open retention area behind my house, but never saw them at my feeders even if I added dried fruits. I wasn’t sure about using dried mealworms because some people report that birds often aren’t interested in the dried mealworms and I wasn’t interested in dealing with the live mealworms. Last year I decided to try the dried mealworms. I added them into a mix of seeds, fruits, nuts and suet pellets in a hanging platform feeder and also set up a separate hanging feeder just for mealworms. Since adding the mealworms I have noticed a significant increase in the number and variety of birds that come to my feeders. For instance: - Bluebirds: Within a day or so of adding the mealworms, the bluebirds began coming to both the platform feeder and the mealworm-only feeder. I have at least 2-3 pairs coming to the feeders this year (2018). I uploaded a picture of one of the bluebirds on the mealworm-only feeder. - Woodpeckers: I commonly see red-bellied woodpeckers year-round, but only rarely would see other woodpeckers and then usually only on the trees in my yard, infrequently on the feeders. However, especially in the spring I now will see red-headed, red cockaded, downy and possibly hairy woodpeckers and flickers both in the trees and on the feeders. - Mocking birds and blue jays seems to visit more often. I have seen both on the mealworm-only feeder. - Other Species: I have noticed a greater number of indigenous and migratory species visiting the yard and feeders. This includes small flocks of starlings, robins, finches, wrens, warblers, thrushes, sparrows and it seems like an even greater variety of LBBs. I believe I’ve seen juncos, towhees, and siskins. Some days my entire backyard is filled with chirping bird sounds and small clouds of birds flittering about. Some certainly come for the seed, but I see a lot of them visiting the platform feeder and the mealworm-only feeder as well. - I see more of the “usual suspects” as well (cardinals, tufted titmouse, doves, etc.). - Squirrels will eat them, too. Not exactly a plus, since squirrels seem to eat about anything, but they come with the bird feeding territory. Every bag of Picky Neb mealworms I’ve purchased have seemed, clean, fresh and well-dried. They have a pleasant, earthy, roasted smell. They’ve always arrived quickly. I find the cost to be effective and as good as or often better than what I can find in local big box stores or feed supply stores. It’s also nice to have them “always available,” as I’ve gone to stores sometimes and they’ve been out of mealworms. Having a choice of sizes is also a plus. I’ve found that local stores usually offer very small packages at very high prices. Even feed stores that sell larger bags for feeding farm birds don’t offer as much variety for better prices, at least in my area. I started out buying 2 pound bags of Picky Neb last year and have upsized this year to the 5-pound bags. However, the rate at which the birds devour them during the winter and spring may mean I’ll have to go up to 10 pound bags during those seasons in the future. I estimate that the birds go through 2-3 cups of mealworms per day during the winter and spring /migration/ breeding seasons. In the summer and fall I have far fewer birds come to my yard and therefore use a lot less. Clearly the trick to maximizing birds in your yard is offering as wide a variety of feed as you can. I can say from experimentation and experience that adding the dried mealworms has definitely made a significant difference even over offering a wide variety of seeds, nuts and fruits.

Very high quality meal worms! We have a birdbath/fountain in the backyard and we like to place a couple of scoops of these worms out several times per day. The bag comes with 5 pounds of large, whole, meal worms and a very nice quality scoop. The condition of the worms were excellent. They were not crushed or broken up. We can see that the birds love these worms so much, that they keep an eye out for me everyday! They call out when they see me come out to the back yard to check and clean the fountain. They've gotten more and more relaxed when they see me and now they'll stay nearby on the fence, (just 10 feet away) when I'm outside as they wait for me to spread out some meal worms. I very strongly recommend these to anyone one who is interested in feeding wild and/or domestic birds & chickens. Rich

My chickens, ducks, geese, guineas & turkeys come running every morning for their "treats"! They love these high quality mealworms & we go though 5-10lbs a week. Just ordered 2 more bags (10lbs)! 😘 ((UPDATE)) After having ordered roughly 40 - 60lbs of Picky Neb's Meal WORMS now, I'll have to say, my "hoard" of 30+ chickens, 8 ducks, 5 geese, 5 guineas and 8 turkeys LOVE them. You can't beat the quailty or the price. The customer service is also the best. I recommend more than any other brand of meal worms. If you need great meal worms for your few or many "pets" warm or cold blooded, fish, reptile, scales, fur or feathers...Picky Neb's are the ones for you! BTW, I was *not* paid nor compensated in any way for this review. This is my honest review based totally on my experiences with this brand and many OTHER brands of meal worms. Have a great day. Be kind to one another and be good stewards for God's creatures & His great Earth! ♥️

Mealworms for the best to attract bluebirds and do they ever attached them!. I seen them feed almost adult bluebirds who for some reason depend on mom. Finally found these on line with a decent price. They are a little expensive, but if you want bluebirds, then go the distance. Just order the 25 pounds because the price is better. Also other birds eat the worms as well. Robin, Red Birds are two others that eat the worms. Squirrels don't seem to like them and I'm so glad. These worm look like other but are a better price and they are shipped quickly.

We buy this larger bag and put some in a smaller container that we keep on hand as treats or extra protein for our chickens. Our chickies absolutely love them. Having trouble getting all your chicks to go in the coop at night? Put these in a 2 quart jar and shake them each evening near coop. Toss a handful in to lure stubborn chicks inside. Close coop door. TaDa! Have some birds going through a hard molt, exploding feathers everywhere, and looking droopy because they are needing extra protein for feather growth? Give them some extra mealworms and watch them go through molts much faster with less struggle. Have a new bird that’s shy and needs coaxing to trust people? Throw out a few of these closer and and closer to you until you are feeding out of your hands. Multiple uses and birds love them!

To keep my hens laying throughout the winter I give them mealworms for protein they lack from absents of bugs. It always works, they may not lay everyday but out of just five hens of mixed breeds I get an average of 26 eggs per week when they lay 36 per week in warm weather. Picky Neb mealworms are the best value for my money I have found. I live off-grid 30 miles south of the Canadian border and never supplment my birds with heat or light. It is the intake of protein from the mealworms that does it. Great product, great value. Thank you Picky Neb, please keep up the good work.

We'd been paying outrageous prices for dried mealworms from a big name hardware store and I was looking for a more economical source for our chickens. I took a chance on Picky Neb mealworms that were much less expensive and I was pleasantly surprised. These are large worms with very few broken ones. Our chickens love them so much we have to mix them in with scratch grain and feed to keep them from hurting themselves trying to get to them. When they see me coming with the little bucket I use, they cry and crowd the door to their run. Also, since we've been feeding them these worms, they have started laying larger eggs. I didn't think that was possible, but the eggs have gone from being medium to large. I can't be sure it's due to the better quality worms, but it started happening about a week after we started feeding them these worms. My only problem is that they aren't always available.

Dried mealworms are dried mealworms, right? Well, I thought so but my picky chickens disagree. I tried some other brands, some more expensive and the girls just turned up their noses (well, beaks) and walked away. Rather than throw more money away, I searched for other treats. Finally, coming into winter when the hens are shut up and get bored, the reviews for Picky Neb convinced me to give them a try. Wow! What a difference... now they come running and pick up every morsel. Makes it easy to call them in at night by simply going into the coop, putting some mealworms in my hand and holding it out. I'll be ordering more.

This bag is huge and I'm loving that. The first thing that caught my eye was NO GMOs! Thank you for that because GMOs are ruining our food supply not just for people but also for all living things. We have a lot of nesting boxes in our backyard that are currently filled with Bluebirds. We also have other nests in our wooded area. I fill my mealworm feeder at least three times a day for all those hungry babies. When the feeder is empty I see birds waiting for it to be refilled! I am on my second bag of these marvelous mealworms and I will continue to purchase these. The protein levels are high and there are no fillers or other harmful chemicals to cause issues with bird health. I am glad that Picky Neb is picky when it comes to healthy food for my beautiful songbirds!
