- ✔ ALDER CONE AS SHRIMP’S STRESS RELIEVER --- The tannin released by the incredible SunGrow Alder Cones have properties that aids in their molting and serves as a food source.
- ✔ LOWER PH LEVELS --- The pH value in an aquarium varies depending on factors such as water hardness, trace minerals, and oxygen levels. Use practical 50-pack SunGrow Alder Cones to lower the pH levels.
- ✔ PERFECT FOR SHRIMP AND OTHER TROPICAL PETS --- The tannins released by the amazing SunGrow Alder Cones create an ideal aquatic living environment for tropical inhabitants such as shrimp, bettas and cichlids.
- ✔ LOOK AMAZING IN ANY TANK --- The SunGrow Alder Cones add a raw beauty to the aquarium. Similar to cones produced by evergreen trees, the alder cones have numerous woody “wings” and are shaped similar to a Christmas tree. Before placing the product in the aquarium, always rinse under the tap water. A "post-boil soak" in fresh water with a bag of activated carbon is a recommended step, too.
- ✔ SIZE VARIES BETWEEN HALF AN INCH TO A FULL INCH --- Since these alder cones are not man-made, the size of each one would be unique. The SunGrow Alder Cones range in size from around 0.5” up to a full 1” (1.25cm to 2.5cm). As you get 50 pieces in one pack, they are enough even for the big shrimp aquariums.

Cones are adorable. Make sure you boil them to remove a lot of the tannins! Mine sunk right after boiling, but it still tinted my water slightly. I would say not to skip soaking them after the boil if you don’t want the tannins. Used these all at once and the ph of my 38g from 7.8 to 7.4 overnight so keep an eye on your ph levels and introduce slowly if you have a smaller tank. Only disappointment is that there aren’t any of the bunches shown in the listing, but otherwise it’s exactly as expected.

Great cones :)
Arrived scattered around the box because of the cheap, thin plastic bag.... other than that - great product! I just replaced the bag with a sturdy Ziploc and drop these guys into my shrimp/blackwater tanks 3-5 at a time and let them sit for a few months (until they start disappearing) then I pull those out during a water change and add more! Great cones, will order again when I need more!

Little amount goes a long way!
There is a mixture of tiny small and smaller cones in the package. These require work before adding to the tank; boiling and letting them sit in water for 24 hrs prior. Since it says only ONE cone is recommended per 1 gallon of water in the tank at first, I am disappointed. I would prefer to just buy smaller packs of cones since I only have a 10 gallon tank. These are minuses to the product that are my fault for not reading more before buying. I do like them because they are cleaner than Indian Almond leaves in a tank and my shrimp and my frogs seem to like them also, which is why I gave the 5 stars.

great but be careful
Great but be careful. Different batches has different strengths. Put in a little at a time. I put in the same amount this time as I did earlier this year and rapidly changed my pH. Lost 20 fish.

Like driftwood nuggets. Shrimp, snails, eels love them.
Like driftwood nuggets. My shrimp love them as well as my snails and khuli loach (eel-like fish). I’d imagine any animal that likes to borrow and hide in the substrate would also like this product. I wish I got a little more for my money but I don’t know anything about the Alder cone market...

Wash and boil before using
These cones contain tannin that will make your aquarium's water change color. In order to prevent this you can boil them in water until the water becomes clearer. After that you should leave them soaking in water. These look wonderful in a shrimp tank and shrimp love them.

As expected.. good
Boiled them twice with rinses thereafter... Put a couple in the tank to start and then added a couple more at a time. Haven't had any issues with water turning into tea or anything like that. My shrimp love them after they build up a little biofilm.
