I lucked out in picking this unit, at least for now. It does the job as well as expected and the battery lasts just long enough to deal with my size yard, for now.

Amazing power and battery life. Used to take me a extra 15 min to complete my yard work using the 18V version cause I had to keep changing out the battery. But this 40V has more power and last thru my entire yard with power to spare.

Am back after owning this for 3 months. This is worth every nickel! Very hardy and takes down quite large brush/weeds. Battery lasts through all and the charger is nice and small. The only con was that the initial starter string ran out way too quickly.

Black and Decker has once again put my faith back into their company. Purchased a different brand and within 1 week, I took it back. This model #LST140C works great. It's much quieter than my last B&D, which I had for 8 years. With the 40V battery, I can do the the front and back of the house without having to change the battery. But I did buy another battery just in case.

Almost at the gas trimmer level of power and abilities. The cost is comparable to a mid-level gas trimmer but without much of the hassle, noise, gas and fumes , maintenance of a gas trimmer. I've tested this item with the heavier .080 Commercial MaxiEdge cutting string which is thicker and far better made than the BD pre-wound spools and it worked much better in de-weeding up to 1/4" weed stocks with ease. The auto spooling however needed more manual attention but this 40v BD string trimmer really wants, needs the heavier string IMO. Run time is about 20-30 min. so its a hit and run trimmer.

This weed wacker is very strong, and the battery lasts a surprisingly long time. I cut for about an hour before I noticed a difference in the strength of the output. Good quality.

Has the power to cut almost everything I need to cut, except things like saplings or weeds that have gotten really hard. Had weeds/grass that was at least a foot or more tall and it went right through it. It was quite thick! I really like that I can make it shorter. I'm only 5'5" and most weed eater shafts are too long. The guard is better than my corded electric weed eater too, not as much debris is thrown at me in comparison. That's important, since it's often poison ivy that is being cut. It lasts about as long as I do. I can't do my entire yard - it's fairly large and a lawnmower gets destroyed by the rocks so that's out. I do maybe 1/3 to a half of the yard, then wait till another day to do more. That's a good thing! With my corded one I usually do too much at a time, and pay for it with soreness. I imagine I could get another battery if I get more used to it and want to go longer. I especially like the freedom of going wherever I want. With the corded one I could only go as far as the cord reached. I also like the automatic feed, without having to bump it, and being able to buy pre-wound spools. The only bad thing is I wanted to get a reciprocating saw and use the same battery. Alas, the saws only use the 20V batteries, so I'll have to get a whole other set up for that. Added later: Well, now that I'm getting used to it, I'm thinking I will need another battery to go as long as I want to, especially since I put a shoulder strap on it that helps to distribute the weight onto my lower body. The great thing about this one compared to my old corded one is that this one can be made shorter, which really helps when you are not tall to make the head at a better angle. It's also much lighter! Didn't realize it until I picked up the old one to get the strap off it. All said and done, I would buy this again. Worth it.

I did my research both on Amazon and online on which string trimmer I should buy to replace my 12 year old Ryobi 2-cycle trimmer. I researched electric, cordless & gas (both 2-cycle & 4-cycle). Each have their own pros & cons. So why this Black & Decker? Quality of brand and ease of use were paramount. Very easy to assemble and use. I love the auto line feed! No hang ups, no tangles, and no wasted time checking and rechecking line length. Okay... maybe the first time during initial use out of curiosity. It is what it is... automatic feed. It works great. The trimmer handled everything it came into contact with. Grass, weeds, small bush branches, my wife's flowers (oops!). All with no reduction in power. I trimmed a 8000 sq ft corner lot on one charge and still had power leftover. The trimmer is well balanced, adjustable and easy on your back. Bottomline, if you're undecided on which unit to buy, leave your indecision at the door and buy this trimmer. The 40 volt battery/motor can handle most household lawn trimming needs. If you don't like it Black & Decker offers a 30 day money back guarantee on the box. See... no risk!

Great new product. I had been using the grasshog 18V for many years. Problem is that the battery had to be replaced every 4 months or so and I was always buying a new grasshog since they came with two batteries. So I have a few. Last week I went to use it and could not find a single living battery. So I decided to try the 40 volt and see how it goes. I used it today and the battery charge lasted about 40 minutes, about the same as the grasshog. Fortunately this is my second 40 volt product so I could have switched to the other if I had the energy to do more work. But 40 minutes is enough at a time. What I really liked was the very light weight. I am over 70, female, and not very strong. If I need to replace the battery in less than a year then I will be bummed. But for now I am very happy.

After several gas-powered trimmers, I decided to try cordless. I have the B&D 40V hedge trimmer which works very well (replaced by B&D under warranty), and I already had a few spare batteries. Right out of the box, this was easy to set up. Handled my substantial yard with no problem, with battery life to spare. Much less noisy and less vibration than gas trimmers, lighter too. Easier on the hands, back, and ears. I bought extra drop-in line cartridges, but didn't need to change one yet. It is a pain to rewind cord on the gas powered trimmer, so this is much less work. You can, if you want to, rewind the cartridges with bulk line. So far, I'm very pleased. Recommended.
