Only Use Xerox Ink

Excellent printer and less cost per page than most ink jet printers. I figured about 5 cents a color page. My first 6510 I used "compatible" ink in it. Very very bad decision - it - screwed up the printer on month 11. Maybe 15,000 pages by then. The replacement part that messed up is $80 with no guaranteed other things will mess up in the future from the damage caused by the "compatible" ink cartridges . So I opted to buy a new 6510DNI printer at $170 Once I got my ( second) 6510, I could tell right off that bat the difference in print quality compared to my "compatible" ink 6510 printer. Never again will I buy off brand ink. Never.

Great upgrade from ink jet for home/school use.

Very happy with this printer so far. I was tired of replacing less expensive ink jet printers every other year and having to buy expensive ink refills after small color print jobs so I decided it was time to upgrade to a color laser printer. Did a bit of research and selected the Xerox Phaser 6510/DNI. Of course it is bigger than our old ink jet (deeper and taller), but it is not massive. Set up was very easy. The DNI model has wireless printing. It did take a couple of minutes to scroll through setup options and type in the WiFi password on the limited interface, but it was not complicated. Took a few minutes to warm up on first use but no issues after that. Prints beautifully and very quickly. Some commented that this machine causes a power surge/lights to flicker. I live in a 105 year old house and did not have any problems; however, I did plug into a surge protector.

Just plain AWESOME! 30 PP Black or Color

We have used a multi-functioned printer for years but found ourselves needed to do quite a bit of printing lately. Our printer was taking up tp 10 minutes to print out one 80 page contract (yes, with colored pictures included in the body of the contract). I had forgotten what a printer was supposed to be able to do. This printer finishes printing quickly, easily and double-sided - saving us TIME, paper and frustration! This is not the printer that I would choose to print photos - but it does a fine job for contracts - just not portraits. We 'love' it - would give it TEN STARS if possible. The double side printing s just plain fun to watch as well.... Fairly easy to set up - I ran an ethernet cable from the router to the printer, used the install disc (included) on the PCs and started printing.

Great Printer at a Great Price

My old Brother 4070-CDW printer, 10 years old, was on its last legs, so I was looking for an economical replacement for it - light duty but high quality. I was particularly interested in the ongoing cost of operation - which, of course, means the cost of replacement toner. Obviously, a low purchase price on a printer such as this is fine, but if the cost of toner is high, then the cost of the printer matters little. So I was pleasantly surprised with the availability of replacement toner cartridges for this printer from various 3rd party remanufacturers of toner at surprisingly low prices - far less expensive than what my previous printer required. Printer set-up was straightforward, and the printer has worked flawlessly from the very start. I've only owned it for a short while, so I cannot comment on its durability (yet), but everything I've seen and experienced thus far is positive. Print quality is good; print speed is also good. And what I particularly liked was that even though I run Linux, as opposed to Windows, the setup was straightforward using the drivers downloadable from Xerox. Barring any unexpected issues as I get more use out of this printer, I'd rate it 6 stars if I could.

Good quality, fast, and inexpensive printer. Toner is pricey though. Xerox support is FANTASTIC!

Purchased the Xerox Phaser 6510/DNI to replace a Brother MFC-9840CDW all in one printer, copier, scanner, and fax. The brother printer still works but have started having problems with it. Relegated it to a backup role. The xerox is a printer only. It does not have a scanner, copier, or fax. As a printer, it seems to be great so far. I have only had it a few days but print quality is better than the brothers ever was. The brother quality is pretty good but this is better. Text is crisper and pictures and graphics seem to be much clearer and closer to actual colors. This printer is fast. I printed a 25 page report in duplex and it was finished printing by the time I turned to look. Of course I took my time as I was used to the brother printer. That printer would not have been half finished when I turned around. Amazon began carrying this printer in December 2016 so it is a new printer with the newest technology. My old brother first came out in 2004. Not a whole lot of changes in printer technology since then but this is a good fast printer with good graphics and text. Toner cartridges look like they are going to be pretty expensive but I am hoping generic ones will come out in the next year or so and drive down the cost like they did with my old brother printer. I am a computer geek so don't know if it is my inherent knowledge or not but the printer was a breeze to set up for use with Ethernet. It was a pain to input the pass phrase for my wireless router though. Had to scroll through an ASCII chart to find upper case letters, lower case letters, and special characters. Worked flawlessly though once input. Web interface is much easier. Not much to say about it. Just go to the ip address you setup for the printer and look and update or change any settings you like. Printer is much lighter than my old one but still weighs about 40 pounds. Easy for me to move around. Difficult for a lady perhaps. Only thing I don't like about the printer is that the manual controls on the printer itself are not intuitive. I had to find a picture with an explanation to figure out what button to press for various things. Eventually printed out a menu tree from one of the reports offered and keep it by the printer until I memorize them. I give it 5 stars because I really like how good the printed pages look and how fast they come out in both single and duplex mode. Toner price may be an issue but since I have not had to deal with it yet, I am not going to penalize the printer for something that has not occurred yet. I will update this as the year goes by. -----Update March 2017 ---- Had the printer for a few weeks now and absolutely love it. It is fast, quiet, and prints both text, graphics, and color better than any laser printer I have personally ever worked with. I have not printed any photographs but everything else it prints looks so professional that I expect a photo might rival an inkjets output. A;so, it does not seem to use as much toner as I expected. My Brother printer seemed to run out long before it was supposed to. This one seems to print more than expected which is a good thing considering how expensive the replacements are. This thing draws a lot of power when it powers up. Actually makes the lights in my home office dim some each time. I am not going to rewire the house but I might spring for a large uninterrupted power supply (UPS) with AVR (voltage regulator). Normally you don't put a laser printer on a UPS as it draws so much power it usually needs a fairly large one by itself. However, I probably will just to keep from annoying my wife with flickering lights. Note that this is an issue with most larger laser printers and is not specific to this particular one. However, my old Brother MFC9840CDW did not cause the lights to flicker so it is not always the case. I still don't like the controls on the printer itself. The symbols don't make any sense to me and there are no words printed underneath them. Still, that is a very minor complaint. I have posted a copy of the manual to the wall that explains them. One day I may finally memorize them. However, most things can be done from the web interface so I may never need to memorize them. If I was buying a printer again, I would buy this one BUT with the fax/copy/scan capabilities. ----------------------- October 24, 2017 Lower my rating by a star due to a problem getting the printer out of sleep mode. If I don't use the printer for a day or two, the next time I do, I have to reboot the printer. It will not come out of sleep mode when I send a print job (get message that printer is offline) and pressing the sleep on/off button (for lack of a better word) does not do anything. I have to physically unplug it and plug it back in. Very very annoying. There may be a fix. I don't know. Have seen nothing else online talking about this problem. Will run it by Xerox and see if they are any help. ------------------------------- November 2, 2017 Changed number of stars from 4 back to 5 bucause of outstanding support by Xerox. I submitted a support ticket to Xerox because I was having a problem with the printer going to sleep and not always coming back out properly. I really did not expect much to happen other than some guy from India talking to me and not understanding or fixing the problem. Boy was I wrong! Xerox support emailed me within hours and asked for some configuration information which I printed out and emailed to them. I got a reply back the next day that everythng looked like it was setup properly so they were sending a technician by my house to fix it. The next day, a guy called and we setup a time for him to come over later in the week. He showed up on time and replaced the motherboard with a new one. Took him about an hour. So far, I have had no problems. I have NEVER had a large company take a problem as seriously as Xerox did. As far as I am concerned, their printer could catch fire and I would buy it again based purely upon the fantastic support they provide.

Plug Printer Cable into the TOP port, not the bottom one, that's for Networks.

Tech in The Bahamas was not smart enough to ask me what port the cable was plugged into on the back of the printer. Once it was elevated to level 2 the guy asked me, hey when you plug the printer cable in, don't you see a pop up on Windows 10? When I said no, he suggested I plug it into the OTHER port on the back of the computer. DO NOT plug into the bottom port, that's for networks, other than that, this is an amazing printer. I sell Scottsdale Real Estate, and it cranks out the most beautiful Comparative Market Analysis I have ever seen. I use Cloud CMA if anyone is wondering. P.S. DO NOT use glossy paper, it does not like it :-)

Wow! What a super deal!

I have an old monochrome laser printer and I've been wanting a color printer for a while. I haven't seen many advertised under $200 that I thought were any good, but I saw a Xerox 6510/DN advertised for $179 and it looked nice. Except I wanted the WiFi interface. I scrolled around on the page and in the product comparison grid it showed a 6510/DNI for $139. Whoa! I wondered, what's the "I" for? Something nobody wants? Nope. It turns out the DNI model includes a WiFi adapter! This was impossible to pass up -- $40 cheaper PLUS the WiFi adapter! Well, it said it was "refurbished" too, but that didn't bother me. Xerox has been making stuff like this forever, and I knew it would be a solid performer. I hooked it up and the test prints look great. This printer is actually higher-res than most laser printers, and the pages are really sharp. Configuring the WiFi is a bit tricky. The "manuals" are annoying -- they have a drawing with 10 one-line bullets, each of which is in a different language. For more information they say, "See the manual". Well THIS IS THE MANUAL! I had to go to their website and dig around to find something that explained in 100% English how to configure the doggone WiFi, two of which are very inconvenient when your router is in another room. And at 66 lbs, I'm not lugging this printer around the house. (One option said to plug the printer directly into your laptop via the internet cable. Ummm ... MacBooks have not had internet plugs on them for nearly a decade.) I'm giving it 5-stars anyway because it's such a great deal. In fact, it would be a Great Deal at $250. That said, for the price of new toner carts, you're better off donating the printer to Goodwill when it runs out of toner and just getting another one on sale.

!!EXCELLENT PRODUCT!!

This was an upgrade from an HP Laserjet 4000 and did not disappoint. We get reliably excellent prints with options like double-sided and B&W only output. This is a very reliable and cost-effective solution for SOHO environments and one that I highly recommend.

What you'd expect from Xerox!

Bought to replace our old Brother. First off, same size and weight, but paper tray holds much more. They don't use conventional powder toner - it's more of a wax based thing, but the color on plain paper is fantastic! Even has some gloss. Installation was completely painless and the printer was up and running on my home network in minutes. Yes, the Xerox toner sticks are higher priced than even Brother's conventional ones, but there are compatibles that are VERY reasonable. (Don't know if they'd give Pantone color though.) All in all, I'm very pleased with this printer.

Some Limitations, but Unbeatable Bang for Buck

I've owned the Phaser 6510 for about a month now. After working out a few initially frustrating issues, I can say without reservation that I'm very gratified by the performance of this color laser printer. At this price point, you will be hard pressed to find anything close to what the 6510 offers unless you go with a refurbished or used unit. While the price tag is ridiculously small, it is the cost of replacing toner cartridges that makes the 6510 a stellar value. Amazon offers a variety of generic replacement toner cartridge bundles starting at under $50 for a total of 5 (2 black, 1 yellow, 1 cyan and 1 magenta). These are high-yield cartridges and should last you months or even years depending on how much printing you do. Colors reproduce flawlessly and the detail in photographs and other high-res images is better than many high-end color lasers. On the downside, I had a devil of a time getting the 6510 and my PC too communicate under any protocol, at one point spending over an hour and a half in chat with a product support guy, who was exceedingly pleasant, patient and willing, but ultimately unable to resolve this issue. Finally (and on my own) I hit upon a combination of uninstallation/re-installation of both the printer and the drivers that worked. The CD that shipped with the printer was all but useless. I now have a variety of documents formatted to print perfectly without additional tweaking other than to occasionally load media into the bypass tray. In summary--other than the hell-on-earth setup problem--I'm in color laser heaven, and feel confident recommending the Phaser 6510 to anyone other than the completely tech-illiterati.
