SO. SO. SOOOO GLAD I finally purchased this thing. I've been looking to get this for my PS4 since that 500GB was cutting it anymore. I had to go through deleting games I played from time to time just to play new ones. Now, I can make the choice of letting it stay there for a while since I have the space. Set up was SUPER EASY on PS4 as it already has the settings to format it. Not only that, it was quick in the formatting process. It's such a relief to know that I have so much extra space now. 500GB to 2TB? That's a nice jump I'll say. Lastly, the price is right in my range of what I was looking for. I didn't want to go too expensive, but I knew I wanted something good. I knew about this external hard drive because of my roommate. He got it during Black Friday (I completely missed out; I regretted it) and has no issues out of it. The opportunity came for me to purchase it for myself and got it here at a nice price. Overall, I definitely recommend it!

I love this hard drive. It works great for all my docs that were cramming up my computer. I have uploaded a pic for you Mac users to see how to reformat the hard drive to be able to use it. It takes only like 4 clicks. 😁 Type in your Mac search bar for “disk utility” app, select the new hard drive, and then in the popup box where you see “Format”, in that drop down menu select “Mac OS Extended” then click “Erase”. That’s it, you can start dragging docs to the drive. Super easy. :) I’m glad I bought it cuz its affordable & has a lot of storage! 😁

I put this drive into use immediately upon receipt. The included in the package, which is quite small, is the drive itself, the connecting cable, and a rudimentary, fold-out sheet of instructions in several languages. The instructions are unnecessary, as setup is extremely simple. Connect one end of the cable to the drive and the other end of a USB port. There's only one way to connect the cable, as you will discover. Wait a few minutes for plug and play to recognize the device and pretty soon it shows up on Windows Explorer (or, as I use it, Q-Dir, with the next consecutive drive letter assigned. Presto, about 4tb of extra space. I use a Targus AWE55US Chill Mat Cooling Stand under my laptop, and this drive fits in the void between the top and bottom of the stand and butts up against the fan. The cable is easily routed to an adjacent USB port. It's small enough to be easily portable in a briefcase, purse, laptop bag. or the pocket of your cargo pants.

As my headline states, I bought two of these external hard drives to use as additional storage for both my PS4 and Xbox One. The setup was easy and only requires a quick format by navigating through each consoles respective settings. They are particularly handy since they do not require their own power source. It's really too soon for me to remark about durability and drive longevity, but speaking as one who has put together several PCs from individual components, sometimes hard drives fail but this really should only be the case after several years. Just to be clear, I do not have a PS4 Pro or an Xbox One S/X, so I can't vouch for compatibility with these consoles, although I can't imagine there would be an issue.

Thanks to Amanda who shared how to format this for a current Mac. Here is a slightly updated version of her instructions: Open Disk Utilities. From the View menu, choose "Show All Devices." Select WD Elements on the left side of the window. Right click and choose "Erase" from the pop-up menu. Create a name and choose "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" assuming you have a current vision of OS-X. It will reformat the drive in about a minute. I followed these directions, and it was effortless. I am using this as a Time Machine backup disk. I keep it plugged into the USB hub that I connect my computer to when it is on my desk. From reviews, I see that some people have had disk failures, but I also do a cloud-based backup. But that only backs up my most recent version of each file. Time Machine gives me hourly backups for the last 24 hours, so I can recover something I've inadvertently overwritten. I was using an old Synology 212+ for Time Machine, but after moving, it asked me to reinstall, crashed in the process of doing that, and lost all my data. RAID is useless in that situation. I've thought about buying a newer, faster NAS, but that's expensive, and decided to go this route at least for the time being. Unlike the Synology, which was accessible by WiFi, this won't do backups when I take my laptop away from my desk, but I do my most critical work at my desk in any event. I bought this rather than the $5 cheaper, newer version because I prefer the rounded corners to sharp edges. The rough surface doesn't seem to show fingerprints, a problem reported by users of the shiny newer version. Amazing that 4TB can fit into such a tiny form factor and be such a reasonable price. I am delighted.

Easy setup with Xbox One X. Got the 4TB version... I figure I can hold 35+ 4K HDR games between the external drive and the 1TB on the machine, which will give me a number of years of game acquisition capability, and have another USB port if I need additional expansion years down the road.

Bought for my boyfriend. The 4TB external worked great for his PS4. He said some of the memory was used for converting but he has 7x the amount of space he started with. He is very happy with this item and I will update my review if he comes across any problems.

This drive is much more than I thought it would be. Plug in ready and much smaller (physically) than I thought it would be. I thought 2TB would be a wee bit smaller than I needed but it wasn't until I did the actual math that I realized I'll be using this for years to come. I loaded some 500 pictures onto the drive and they took up a very tiny slice of the whole drive. Pleasantly surprised to say the least. Glad I bought it and would recommend it to anyone that wants one.

Got this to hook up to my Xbox One so I could store more games. Hookup was extremely simple and straightforward. Took less than ten minutes for the whole process of hooking it up and configuring it. Now I have tons of space for my games.

Perfect. I'm using for my ps4 to backup games and also to stored my movies. I formatted with my laptop too exfat32. Works perfect
