PlayStation VR games have been hit or miss with me. I loved Arkham and Job Simulator--and Thumper was a good time while it lasted. Although I own Starblood Arena, I cannot play longer than 15 minutes without wanting to vomit. I was super excited about Robinson, but was struck with the sensation that I had just gorged myself at an all you can eat burrito buffet and had to lie down. So, I hung up the old helmet until Farpoint arrived on my doorstep yesterday. Upon unpacking the box, I was surprised that there was a weight to the gun controller. It doesn't feel cheap like I thought it would. I was thinking from images that I would have to fit my motion controller into a bracket, but the piece is already attached. Upon firing up the game, I was immediately surprised by the graphical fidelity. Were my expectations low? Maybe. But then the actors started talking ... and it they are good. The facial capture is also nicely rendered. After a brief stint in space and a crash landing, I started to explore the rocky canyons. And then the gunplay started. Leaning into my rifle scope put a devilish grin on my face. How does this work so well?! Space spiders explode in gloppy fragments and the shotgun and rifle I have unlocked so far feel weighty and satisfying. Want to change your gun? Just throw the weapon over your shoulder. And the best thing for me? No motion sickness at 2 hours! I have to say, I am impressed. The one thing I did notice was that calibration on my rifle was a bit off from where my hands were but I think in my excitement to start I calibrated the unit wrong. It also has you select your height. Since I am 5'6 and short, I felt like a Jawa in-game when I looked down at my feet. So I plan on taking more time to calibrate during my next play. If you are a fan of Starship Troopers and VR, this is the first one that has come along in some time that truly has gotten me excited again for the future of VR possibilities.

First things first, if you suffer from motion sickness toughen yourself up. It does take a few days where you'll feel like death, but your body does adjust and after that you'll never feel sick again, at least that is my experience. It's like getting your sea legs so to speak. Now with that out of the way let me say that the PSVR is really impressing the hell out of me. I have an Oculus and Vive and those are amazing, especially with the Touch and Vive wands. But the PSVR optics to me are much better, no screen door. The game Farpoint starts off slow and eases you in. That's because once you see you first spider like alien you're going to freak out a little. The movement is so smooth and they're so fast it's really creepy. If you're deathly afraid of spiders make sure to wear your depends. As the game goes on it gets progressively more difficult and puts you in scenarios where you have to decide strategically where you should be on the map. It's very very realistic and you'll find yourself actively looking for terrain advantageous to fighting, as you would in reality. Really ear to ear grin moments. In not time you'll find yourself strafing, back-pedaling, running to high ground, swinging around Arnold style to pick off enemies behind you, just awesome action hero stuff. I won't give any spoilers but your first boss battle is going to make you chuckle like a school girl, it's that awesome. The scale is amazing and you'll be sweating from tension and activity. Those are good things. This is what gaming needs. You're part of a movie, you're the hero, it's amazing. Now, the controller itself is ultra comfortable and light. It feels well built despite being really light. DISCLAIMER, make sure you have at least 3 feet all the way around you because you will be spinning to fire at enemies and smack your infant in the head or worse bash your controller into a bookshelf. If you have a PSVR this is a no brainer. If you don't have a PSVR you should get one. There are so many different experiences that there is something for everyone.

This gun works very well and the gameplay is excellent. It feels like Doom and Halo but in VR and with a gun you can aim down the sights, it feels new and fresh. Not the most mind blowing story ever but really sets the tone for FPS in VR titles. I see there is a list of other titles that will also allow this gun to be used and hope that we hear more from Sony in June. Great addition to PSVR.

I pre-ordered this bundle when it hit Amazon and I love it! No motion sickness whatsoever. The aim controller is a MUST. It really feels like your in the game. The aiming is so accurate you forget it is a game. The game is very fun. Best VR purchase since Resident evil 7. The one thing they do very well in this game is the camera positioning. Holding down the option button tells you where you are in the play area and shows you the camera position. Sony please put this in all VR games!

This is a new type of experience. It's only the first VR game of its kind, but it's really impressive. First person shooters feel way more natural when you're actually holding the gun in your hand. I hope to see more games like this in the future. This is the only VR game that I have tried so far that actually feels like a full and complete game, and not just a tech demo. This game actually has an interesting and deep story. It’s not just a shooting gallery. It gets really interesting. The only thing I didn’t like is the PSVR’s first gen limitations, like low resolution and sometimes poor tracking of my aim controller. I had to reset tracking multiple times because my gun kept getting slightly tilted to the right. I'm sure the next gen VR get much better, but this is pretty good

The Aim Controller is amazing. It completely changes the way some games(especially Farpoint) feel and play in VR. Before this game even released I knew it was going to be "game changing" for VR. Being able to hold the gun up to aim down the sights is one of the best feelings when playing a shooter game. The Aim Controller is very responsive, and feels great in your hands. Farpoint itself is an awesome game. The story is great, and just adds even more to an overall great game. The gameplay is so much fun. Nothing beats blasting down mutant spiders with a shotgun!! Plus, when you get to later parts of the game, the enemies make the game feel completely new all over again. The level design is great, although they are very linear, there are parts that feel more open with multiple ways to go for different strategies. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone that has a PSVR. It's one of the best games out there for it, and the Aim Controller being supported in more and more games, makes it well worth the money for it. PS, play with a fan in front of you blowing on you, it adds so much to the immersion, especially in some of the windy parts on the planet surface.

Best played standing up, Farpoint with the Aim controller is the definitive way to play and is a next level virtual reality experience. Being able to feel the weight and shape of a gun in your hand while holding one in game. The Aim controller elevates Farpoint to something that it would not be without it, enabling you to physically hide behind objects and blind fire around them, as well as look directly down the sites instead of using the L2 button to get a precision aim like traditional game require. It’s all part of that full immersion VR is going for. Farpoint doesn’t require the Aim to play, but it is wholly a better experience with it. Raising a DualShock 4 to your eye to look down the scope just doesn’t have the same feel as an actual gun shaped object, and if the light bar gets obscured from view by turning too far to the side (as Farpoint often sees you doing), all gun tracking using the DualShock 4 goes out the window. It’s clear that Farpoint was designed with the Aim in mind from the very beginning, and using a DualShock 4 is markedly worse experience.

Best game of last year. Now technically I've played it here in 2018 but i don't really have any other games that have come out in the last 14 days to compare it to. So instead we'll compare it to 2017 and i can not think of a single game that was better than this. The controller is really what makes it, because it really makes you feel in control, but beyond that it's the atmosphere, the design, the gameplay, the surprisingly long run time, the replay value. It's a ridiculously good game. I'm not going to make it a long winded review, instead i'll just cap it with this: Does it make it worth while to buy a PS VR headset.....no! If you already have the headset, is it worth it to get the game/controller combo, without a doubt, it is a must have. buy this game, i loved it!

This is how PSVR is supposed to be played. The aim controller and Farpoint is by far one of the best gaming experiences I've had in my entire life, and I am 47 years old. The immersion and real aspect of moving through a virtual world is unreal cool. This is what I've waited my whole life for. It's as close to a simulation or Holodeck as we could hope for in today's day and age. When it's done right with the Aim Controller, like Farpoint is, it's literally the best thing you could hope for in a gaming experience. I cannot recommend this enough. It's amazing. You will not be sorry with this purchase! :)

It truly is an amazing experience with the aim controller. Most of these reviews tell you to buy the game with the aim controller... and that is exactly what you should do! This game is completely immersive and the aim controller adds a lot to that. I loved the game, the story was above average for a video game with top quality actors making everything believable and engaging. I stopped many times to just look around.. I walked to the edge of cliffs, looked up into the sky and felt like I was there. There is a reason most of the reviews are 5 stars. This is an absolute must have for all PSVR owners. Don't encourage scalpers by buying from them. Be patient and pay the very reasonable $80 for the game/aim bundle when it becomes available again. Free DLC is on the way!
