This Outdoor Satellite is incredible. No durability review yet, as I got it Wednesday and setup the same day. Speed test is from the patio. I think a picked a good spot as well. The last picture is with the ledge claulked and painted as well as the power supply weatherized and painted. Not sure if you will need to go to the extent I did, but we do have bugs in Texas. If you already have an Orbi Mesh network in your home, this is super easy to setup. I put it next to my Orbi Router, plugged it in and hit sync on the Outdoor Satellite and then hit sync on my Orbi Router. Configured within 10 minutes! After having issues with a different device, Amazon accommodated me with refunds of the previous units as well as vendor’s charges as their support wasn't helping. Like I said, if you already have Orbi, or need a great mesh system for your home, I can't recommend anything else and I've tried several. It isn't cheap, but the saying "you get what you pay for" is certainly applicable to Netgear's Orbi system.

While my home is no mansion, maybe 1,800 square feet, it is old with plaster lath walls and thick wood floors. I have the main Orbi router on the first floor, center of the house. The second one is on my second floor office. My detached garage is about 35 feet away from the exterior brick walls. Signal strength is somewhat weak and I run a laptop, Firestick on the TV and some iHome appliance switches. I am always losing the signal, especially on the iHome controls. So, I paired this with my existing Orbi mesh network and I have full, high speed access in the garage. I didn't need the coverage of the full size Satellite .

I live in a 4000 sq/ft, single story house, with a massive back yard / pool and these devices carpet bomb the entire property line with consistent internet speed 24/7. I will get 330-350mbps hardwired and , and 100+Mbps walking around on WiFi which is fast enough for 5 people to all be streaming 4K content and other mobile devices with zero lag. I rarely ever see any buffering unless there is inclement weather. Highly recommended for anyone who is sick of screaming at their WiFi dropping out.

This little booster works great as part of the Orbi system. Orbi it's self is a great mesh router. I stacked Orbi up against Google's Mesh router and found the Orbi worked better for me. Google kept locking up and crashing. Those were early days and things may have changed. For sure Orbi has been busy. Orbi has recently upgraded their firmware which improves things quite a bit. Previously the main Orbi had to be in a central spot and all satellite boosters within range of the main router. Now each satellite can chain to the nearest satellite rather than the hub. This can extend coverage quite some distance although I don't think it's designed to run WiFi all across the neighborhood. I don't know exactly what would keep 3 satellites from sending your data in a great big circle rather than out onto the internet but I assume somebody thought of that and in any case, it appears to work very well. But back to the item in question - this booster. It's small and nice looking. There's not much to be done other than run an app on your cell phone to add the satellite. After a bit of blinking a blue ring appears. Then it goes out and you forget all about Orbi forever. Done. Simple as that. If your Orbi ever has a problem the ring will light back up and turn orange or purple but that's never happened for me. Otherwise you just have a white brick stuck in the wall and better WiFi - which is exactly what I wanted. There are only two negatives with this booster. First, it doesn't have an Ethernet jack. For that you need the larger models. Second, it is supposed to give you less coverage over the larger Orbi satellites. I can't confirm that - to me they seem about the same. But I'll take Orbi at their word. I guess that's why this smaller unit is a bit cheaper. In my case, I bought this item to replace one of the larger Orbi satellites because I needed to move the larger satellite to another location. As long as you keep the two limitations in mind I don't think there's any real downside to this device. It seems rock solid. Internet in the back bedroom is just fine for what we need. Fast enough to stream Netflix on a laptop or tablet. Perfect coverage for browsing or email. So long as you don't need an Ethernet jack and you don't live in a gigantic mansion, this booster is a nice add-on to the Orbi line.

I live in a Split-Level. Not understanding the elements of how wifi works, I had our internet connection installed in the bottom level where our office is located. Because I made that uninformed decision, we rarely had wifi up on the main living level where our living room and dining room are. We bought the Orbi and it helped. We at had wifi at least 50% of the time. I bought this, plugged it in our living room and I haven't been without wifi ever since. I even have wifi on our screen porch and in our carport located behind the house. I am so happy now. I think I will go sit in the corner of our big front yard and search the internet, just because I can.

I've used Orbi for several years now and I've used this satellite for about 6 months. My Modem and Orbi Router are set up downstairs in the back corner of my house. It's the only hook up and I don't want the hassle of running wire for a better location. The downfall of that location is upstairs in the front part of my house I don't get a strong signal. This wasn't a huge deal until I installed security camera's and couldn't get a strong connection for the camera because it was in a dead spot. After looking at a few options I purchased an Orbi Satellite. I was put off by the price. This thing isn't cheap! But you get what you pay for. This solved my problem and I now have a strong WiFi signal throughout my whole house. SET UP The set up is very easy, it took my about 20 minutes to complete. It would have been quicker, but I moved the Satellite to a better spot after I set it up the first time. All you have to do is plug it in and use your phone for the rest. It's very intuitive and relatively quick. It's also super easy to move if you find a better location for it. PERFORMANCE I've used other brands of satellites and always returned them because they throttled my speeds and constantly dropped connection. Not so with Orbi! When I speed test it I get around 175mbps download off my main Orbi and 130mbps off my satellite. A slight drop, which I expected, but that's one that I can live with. The satellite has also not dropped signal a single time. The performance has far exceeded my expectations. SOFTWARE It's relatively easy to set up guest networks, change router settings, passwords, and make any other changes you need. You can do most of that from the app or through a web browser. It's very similar to any other router that's on the market. NEGATIVES There's only one negative that I've experienced. Netgear (Orbi) over promises the square footage they can cover. I get it, the units probably can cover that amount of space with optimal placing. But it's rare to find a house where you can place the router exactly where you want it and the walls don't kill the signal. I have a 1650 sq ft house and it took me two routers (one full size and one satellite) to get full coverage. Overall, I highly recommend this router!

I have had great difficulty with WiFi in this building. I think there is a supporting wall with concrete in it that is causing the difficulty. In any case in the past for many years I had an Airport Extreme as my router and used Airport Expresses to try to extend the signal. Sometime it would be OK and then go out. I tried a TP Deco M5 mesh system. It would also intermittently fail. With the Airport system and with the Deco, I would have to reboot them to get WiFi back. Several days ago, I purchased a Netgear Orbi AC3000 Tri-band WiFi System RBK53 at Costco. Amazon sells it, too. The WiFi became very fast and so far quite stable. There was one weak corner of the house so I purchased this Orbi Satellite. Now, the WiFi is fast and stable all over the house. It has only been a few days, but so far I am very pleased. I have had so much trouble in the past and wasted so much time and money trying to fix it; I cannot believe how well it is working now.

We have been using the Orbi RBR50 Tri-Band Wifi with one satellite since December 2017 and I decided to add an additional Satellite to my system to cut down on wires running through my house. We have been so pleased with the Orbi system that it was a no-brainer when it came to adding another satellite - I didn't even consider a different system. It would have been nice to be able to purchase an extra satellite in a store but at least I was able to find it on Amazon,

i had a Netgear Nighthawk X6. had 2 of them to cover my home of 9000 square feet. it was ok. there were trouble spots in the basement of course. it would clock about 160 mbps with my NOTE 8 standing about 10 feet from the router. Google did a great job marketing their Google Wifi. i bought 11 wifis. i set up with 4 first and the speed was so so. it clocked 120 mbps with my NOTE 8 standing about 10 feet from the router......i spent all that money so i continued activating the rest of the routers. that's when the problems started happening. wifi was so incredibly unstable and would drop once every 20 minutes. spent hours troubleshooting and calling tech support. they tell me no more than 6 routers should be used. i had to connect direct to the modem. i did it all and with 6 routers i still had unstable internet AND deadspots everywhere. i was getting as little as 23 mbps. Fed up i bought the Orbi system. connected it with 3 satellites. Now, with the Note 8 i clock up to 400 mbps!!! even in the basement standing about 30 feet from the Orbi satellite i am clocking 130 mbps! Go Netgear! Boo Google. Google, get out of the hardware business! With all of your resources you could have came up with something better than this mediocre product.

Don't buy this product. The hardware is great. When it works, it works wonderfully. However, as of the date of this post, the Orbi has been crippled by its firmware for around three weeks. Appreciating that a firmware update can have unintended consequences, and hoping that a fix may be forthcoming, Netgear's completely inadequate handling of the situation suggests to me that this company is one you will not want to trust going forward. I purchased this product about 6 months ago. I have a system with a router and two satellites. At first, all was good. The setup was particularly easy. Some users reported occasional drops on ios and android devices which they attributed to the Orbi. I experienced some drops, but nothing particularly troublesome and who knows if it was the Orbi. Functionality always restored quickly, and my overall coverage was so much improved that I was very happy. Eventually, Netgear pushed a firmware update, and my measured wifi speeds dramatically decreased with distance away from the router. Logging in to the router, it was clear that the two satellites had ceased to communicate with the router/hub. Every effort to wipe, reset, and resync the system was useless. Tech support should have been aware of the firmware problem within a day or so but continued to obliviously suggest doomed-to-fail efforts to reset and resync. Eventually, after 4 or 5 hours of escalated phone support, the support technician acknowledged what should have been completely obvious, there was a firmware problem, and there was no ETA on the fix. On my last call, I was told it "should be about a week." That was about 4 days ago, but I am not holding my breath. As it stands, with the new firmware, my system is not a mesh network at all. It is a single access point with two dead satellites. For weeks now, the Orbi has done nothing more than the cable modem/router it replaced. It is possible to manually roll back the system to older firmware. After a roll back, all is in order and running great. What is really infuriating is that Netgear, in its wisdom, configured the Orbi to auto update firmware in a manner that cannot be turned off or blocked. So, you can roll back the firmware and have a working mesh system that breaks itself in a day or two after auto updating. Netgear support advised that preventing users from stopping the auto update was a feature for easy operation. Thanks for that Netgear. A big ol' rock is also easy to operate and is as useful to my network as the Orbi satellites. You will see some good reviews here. Aside from shills, those are understandable. The hardware once worked terrifically, and some users claim the newest firmware works for them. Don't believe it. Maybe you will get lucky, but my experience is that Netgear pushed firmware that made my system completely non-functional then hid from the problem while I wasted hours on support calls. Even if you get lucky, do you want to deal with a company that forces autoupdates of broken firmware? You don't. If you are still tempted, take a look at the Orbi message boards maintained by Netgear. You will see almost a month of upset users postings with no meaningful response from the company. Netgear could simply disable autoupdates or push the older firmware while it works on a fix. For whatever reason, this company prefers a strategy of radio silence. I believe that Amazon should delist this product, at least while so many users continue to report that it is not functioning for any aspect of its intended purpose. UPDATE: After posting this review, Netgear replaced both of my satellites. Counterintuitively, this seems to have fixed my system. It has only been up and running for a few days. I have experienced a couple of wifi drops, but I have not reached a conclusion as to whether I expect this to be a frequent problem. There is still no new firmware, there is still no way that I can determine to get around the firmware auto updates, and there are still apparently folks with non-functioning systems posting in the forums. I would like to see Netgear address these issues. If my system stays functioning well for a fair period of time, I will definitely up my one star review. When it works, it is a FLAMETHROWER. If Netgear fixes the underlying issues with the firmware in a way reproducible for all users, it would really be a top-notch product. UPDATE (12/22/17): I am changing my initial 1-star to a 4-star. The new firmware is, in fact, working great. Per my earlier review, when this system is working, it is hard to beat. The new firmware is killing it. I used conventional range extenders before, and there was always a huge drop in performance with the extenders. This Orbi system has fast speeds everywhere even at the farthest reaches of my property. Compared to old-fashioned range extenders, it's like magic. The satellites, which once did not work at all, are suddenly very stable. I also just received the firmware push including the Circle parental control feature, and that is a really great surprise added bonus. I do think users of network products need more control over firmware, and the several weeks I spent with a non-functioning system due to a push of bad firmware really prevents me from a full 5-stars at this point. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from that experience, but it is going away. I am loving this system today. I am happy with the purchase and would recommend it to others.
