Amazing technology in a micro format!

I have TONS of personal electronic "data" that has been building for decades. Manuscripts, copyrights, medical records, home videos, scanned family photo albums, my list goes on and on. Well, one advantage of the electronic age is that I don't have to add a grand ballroom to my house to make room to store all of this stuff as "hard copy." Yet experience has taught me that trusting "magnetically stored" media is very like using a bon fire to store hard copy! It's called a "crash" of a computer's -- ANY computer's -- hard drive! And no, I do NOT accept some corporation's "free storage" on their cloud. What if they're hacked, or have a redundancy failure? My personal paranoia is solved by LG'S Ultra Slim Portable Bluray Writer...! With a single 100 GIGAbyte M Disk I have indestructible nonmagnetic storage and backup that will survive everything short of incineration. Can we say, "UN-hackable?" So this solves MY personal paranoia problem. But have you ever wondered whether archaeologists 2,500 years in the future will be able to play back a DVD as easily as we can access and read an ancient Greek manuscript? Now there's a question none of us can answer!

So Far Great....

When I ordered this drive unit I wasn't sure what to expect. I checked around and found one review and the reviewer loved it but claimed it was loud. Well it does work great and it's very quiet. It's also very fast way faster than the LG unit I replaced. I only had it for about a month or so. We'll see how durable it is. I've burned some dvds with home films on them and it was terrific. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a replacement drive especially an IDE unit.

Wished I had bought one sooner!

This drive worked like a charm, I should have bought one 3 years ago when I broke the one on my desk top. It really was a plug and play, love it so far.

Works just as advertised

Seems really durable and is really reliable. The case it comes in is also great, and comes with a little pocket for my to hold my CD's in.

Beautiful Red!

First of all, the case is absolutely gorgeous. The red glows with brilliant color, and silly or not, color is very important to me. The keyboard cover takes a bit of of getting used to, but sure does a great job keeping crumbs and dust off my new Mac. I purchased the aqua cover set for my daughter and it, too, is just gorgeous. When I snapped on my new case, it fit perfectly and stays put. I have to say I AM an Apple Fan Girl, so I am very happy that this case will keep my new Mac in perfect condition.
