I researched chainsaws for several days looking at gas-powered, electric, and battery operated. I have several large trees downed by Hurricane Irma, and needed one to cut them up and clear out. I was ready to spend 3-4 times the money on a Stihl or maybe twice as much on a Black & Decker. I wasn't even willing to look at this one because of the name. Boy, am I glad I did! I've made several hundred cuts through everything from 1/2" to 10" in diameter and this saw slices through them all like butter. Above 8" you need to cut from top to bottom then go underneath and complete the cut, but it's very easy to do. It might cut even larger trees, I just haven't tried doing it. It was extremely easy to put together. Just drape the chain over the guide, lay it in place, and adjust the tension and you're ready to go (once the battery is charged, of course.) I love the self-lubricating feature and the manual tension adjuster. Cleanup is a breeze. Just unscrew one part, blow it all out, and screw it back on. I've thrown the chain three times (all of them from trying to cut diagonally rather than parallel to the limb) and putting it back on is a breeze. I could not be happier with this product and highly recommend it for any homeowner needing to cut firewood or clear out small trees. I see no drawbacks to this saw unless you consider having to recharge a _rechargeable_ battery a problem! Just be aware it does NOT come with chain lube. You can pick up a bottle at any hardware store or WalMart for less than $5 or order it with the saw for a couple of extra bucks.

Best 16" Cordless ION 40volt Chainsaw for the money. Very Impressed. WEN line of 40v chainsaws has a new fan. I bought this blind never owned a cordless ION chainsaw before. After researching hours of reviews, I knew to get at least a 40volt and at least a 12 to 16 inch bar. My friends this is the best for the features, size, and cost. Stop looking and guessing, hopefully this review will help you make a wise investment. I have used and own a 14" corded Remington Limb and trim and have noticed the WEN 40v 16" out performs the Remington by far. Check out the pictures I provided. I will try to describe what I accomplished during a home project with this stellar Cordless Chainsaw on a full charge. 1st Job, So after 1hour and 25mins work off and on due to moving wood around. I would make 1-3 second cuts through 3" to 6" branches for the chimney stove, each roughly 18" in length. I made over at least 300 cuts to make the truck load pile of wood I produced. After producing the truck load of fire wood I got nerdy and checked the time and battery level. I worked about 1hr and 25mins off and on and still had 2 out of 4 (half life) battery cells remaining as pictured job 1. Then after charging at half charge to full (45mins). Super quite for a Saturday morning, I started 2nd Project on a full battery, The cuts are deeper 10-14 inch and take a little longer to get through each about maybe about 15 to 25 second cut times. So a little more strain on the saw. When making deeper cuts the battery life was about 30 mins for what I accomplished. I was able to make cuts every 18" through each limb and was able to produce, as pictured. I was excited to use this chainsaw and Very impressed with its performance after being nerdy and documenting its workload. This saved soo much time vs a pruning saw and an ax LOL. Enjoy, This chainsaw is the one to get.

What an amazing chainsaw. I didn't have problems with it burning through oil. It felled a 25/30 ft pine and silver maple. Had some landscapers over and they couldn't believe they made battery chainsaws now, so I let them give it a go. They loved it more than their gas powered ones. It had just as much oomph, started every time, and was less noisy.

Update 4/23/2019; My son-in-law used it pretty heavily and reports great results, battery lasts over an hour of continuous use; chain is still sharp; quiet (relative). I have no problem giving this a 5***** rating and would purchase again... (original review) Haven't use it much but the hours i have on it are great. constant cutting for about an hour and battery still reads 2 bars, chain sharp and has retained it's sharpness. Price was excellent. for my needs it's perfect.

This thing has blown my mind. Low noise, low maintenance, will start up after every winter. No brainer for the suburban guy who doesnt have time to fight or fuss with the constant hassle of small engine headaches. That is all in the past from here on out. The future has finally caught up with technology! Cuts through wood like pastrami too! I was not paid to give a 5 star rating neither. I am your average Joe who is simply stoked with this product. Before this review I gave another review 1 star (gas fire pit) just to give you an example that I dont love everthing. I am simply excited about this product. I also did a ton of research on the electric chainsaws. I was close to getting a Greenworks saw but read how leaky they are with chain oil, so no thanks. Wen was at the right price and the reviews sounded pretty solid. The sun Joe saw was a good one too, but just a little too pricey. I love this saw!

Power and performance seemed to match most of the 30 CC to 40 CC gas saws that I've owned. What a pleasure to not have to breath in two-cycle exhaust smoke while up on a ladder. The bar and chain are from a major manufacturer that has been around forever. Battery life was good enough for a late morning of sawing and batteries recharged during the lunch siesta. I will never buy another gas saw again... and believe me, I've owned too many of them to count.

I was looking for a quality battery powered chain saw that did not cost a fortune and I found it in this saw. It is very powerful and the battery life is super. I purchased a second battery (recommended) and can work the saw for hours without running out of power. This is a very high value purchase for anyone looking for a very powerful saw and a very good price.

I have a 5.60 acre property, much of it wooded. Hurricane Irma ravaged my property last September. I had many trees and palms blown completely down or partly down. My gasoline chainsaw, and also my electric chainsaw was giving me problems, so I decided to buy a new chainsaw. I have many battery operated yard tools (blower, string trimmer, pole chainsaw trimmer, etc.). I like battery powered tools for their convenience and quietness. But I was skeptical about buying a batter powered chainsaw. I thought they might run too slow (chain speed) and the battery not holding a charge for too long. I did my homework and checked out many brands of chainsaws here at Amazon and finally decided on the WEN 40417 40V Max Lithium Ion 16-inch model. Well, all I can say (at least so far) is that I'm delighted with my purchase! I assembled the saw, charged the battery, then headed out to do some work. This saw cut through slash pine, Eucalyptus, live oak, scrub oak, etc., tree trunks and limbs like a knife in butter. I figured to cut a 12" tree trunk would take me twice as long as with my gasoline chainsaw with 16" bar. Wrong! The WEN was as fast or faster. I'm also pleased with the duration time of the battery. It's definitely adequate IMO. I also like the fact that this saw is far quieter than a gasoline powered chainsaw. I have no reservation about recommending this chainsaw for use by the average homeowner. It may even be suitable for commercial use, as long as one had a spare(s) battery. The attached photo shows just some of the wood I cut with my WEN chainsaw. Most of the wood shown is Eucalyptus grandis, and it's a dense, heavy wood. Again, this WEN chainsaw gives great performance for the money, IMO -- and that's why I'm rating it five stars.

This Wen 40V chainsaw is amazing for what I'd call light duty work around the property. Just broke it in over 3 days of clearing overgrowth along the driveway on my property in rural MS and it worked great. Most of what I cut was brush and small trees and limbs in the 2" - 8" range but I have every confidence that it could cut a real big tree with proper technique and patience if it needed to. Balance is good, battery life is good (I wear out before the battery does), easy tension adjust on the chain and the chain oil does not leak (so far) which is a common complaint on some other brands. One thing I hate is fighting finicky gasoline powered saws that won't start or run right, and now I don't have to for most jobs that I'll be doing. I am very glad that I heeded the other reviews on here and went with this one. I'll probably get me a second one at some point and maybe another Wen 40V tool that uses the same battery such as their weed-eater. If you're on the fence about which brand of battery saw to get go with the Wen and you won't be disappointed.

I was skeptical about buying a battery powered chainsaw, especially from a brand I knew nothing about. However, I have moderate tree trimming, an occasional use for a chainsaw so I didn't want to pay top dollar for a nice electric chainsaw. This chainsaw has surpassed all my expectations for a chainsaw in this price range. The battery can last all day with light to medium use on a full charge. I have cut through wood up to 18 inches with no problem at all with a decently sharpened chain. The plastic does feel kind of cheap, and the build quality also feels less likely to endure falling out of a tree, but for the price, I wasn't expecting it to be of the build quality of say a Stihl or a Husqurvarna equivalent that you would be spending a considerable amount for. So for me, it gets a five star based on bang for your buck. If you are an around the house handy person with the occasional need for a chainsaw and don't want to bother with a gas powered one, then this chainsaw will most likely fit your needs. But if you are a serious tool snob and have a use for a rugged chainsaw every day, you may or may not be pleased with this chainsaw.
