Also excellent for disposing of adult colostomy pouches. We keep the diaper pail in our bathroom, and it holds a week's worth of disposables (our garbage pickup is once a week) without a whiff of odor in the bathroom. We were having a terrible odor problem with a standard garbage container in the Arizona heat in our enclosed garage (the cars were beginning to smell), but this has not only solved the problem, but is more convenient because it can be kept in the house. I was thinking I would have to buy 2 diaper pails to get us thru a full week, but not so - amazing capacity. This product has solved a real problem for us. Thanks Playtex!

This summer was particularly warm and that meant the old cat litter bucket we used for our doggo's poopy bags was particularly smelly in our garage and was attracting flies. Many, many flies! So I went in search of a solution and found the Pet Genie. After reading a particularly informing review, we decided to go with the Diaper Genie because of its one-handed operation and capacity. We could not be happier with this purchase! Not only have we solved the smelly garage, we can now walk into the house without battling back a cloud of flies ! The Diaper Genie is well worth the extra $5 for the foot lever operation. Emptying the Genie is an easy process and there is a built-in cutting blade for convenience. The Diaper Genie comes with a roll of plastic sleeves but the generic Amazon sleeves are just as good. So, high marks for the Diaper Genie. Dog lovers should consider this as a viable solution for stinky garbage cans!

I had heard mixed reviews about the diaper genie before purchasing it. I thought - how could it be different than a regular old trash can. LET ME TELL YOU. This thing is a caterpillar can. It eats poopy diapers and spits out a perfectly tie-able bag. I love this thing and would have been so sad if I had not purchased it. We probably change the bag out on this every 1-2 days since we have a newborn and she goes through many diapers a day. There is absolutely no smell from this trashcan which I find almost unbelievable. I was concerned about capacity at first but realized that if I had any larger of a can the smell would definitely start to accumulate and become a problem. Changing the bag is a breeze as there is a cutter thingy inside the base of the can so you can just cut the bag wherever you need and tie another knot to start a new bag. Whoever invented this thing deserves multiple awards for making my life 100 times easier. I would absolutely both recommend this to others as well as purchase it for friends baby showers.

**Update 1/4/19 - We are still happy with our purchase, but have since switched to the BabyBreeze offbrand refill bags instead of the Diaper Genie name brand ones. You get a little more, they're a little bigger and more cost effective and just as durable. Also, I'm not sure the carbon filters things actually do anything, but it's hard to tell. To help with any additional smells, I will usually pop in a Febreeze Small Spaces air freshener (slide it in top where carbon filter goes or pop it in the bottom of the pail somewhere) or if you can find those round, disk-like sticky air fresheners - they help too! It's really fine without them, as mentioned in my initial review, if you just open, toss and close quickly, but this is just a helpful extra measure. I read through the reviews and compared this to the Munchkin and decided to give it a try. We avoided a diaper pail for our first child (she's 2.5 now), but with another on the way and the first still in diapers/training pants, we figured we'd give it a shot. We're tired of running diapers/raining pull-ups (especially stinky ones) all the way from her room to the outdoor trash. We love it so far. The first day, we threw in 3 poop diapers - two days later and NO SMELL AT ALL in our child's room, and it is not well ventilated. I'm not sure the issue others are having. I did notice that when you open it, you can catch a wiff, but if you open, toss and close quickly, it's not an issue at all.

Ease of use. Tucks away in a corner and can hold a lot of diapers (although we dont wait too long because of the smell). While it is bigger and holds more diapers, remember that you will need to buy more refills because of that. The pros and cons. We liked it so much we bought 2. And I would probably give it as a gift if it ever appears on a friends registry because of the ease of use. It does very good in containing the diaper smell too. In addition to the charcoal filter, we combat the smell by occasionally spraying disinfecting spray inside. Hope this helps!

I had the Litter Genie (LG) for my cat, but the top lid broke after about a year and there is no step-on option to open it. It was also tedious and messy to swap out the bags. I bought the Diaper Genie and haven't looked back. The refill bags are about the same price (maybe a little cheaper) as for the LG and the door to swap out the bags is push-button and much easier than the LG. The step-on option is perfect compared to the manual operation of the LG. Note: The dispenser is round compared to the square shape of the LG, so you cannot interchange the bags. Cons: The ONLY issues I have are: The top of the unit collects a bit of the litter because the opening doesn't fully fit the width of the litter scoop, so you have to angle the scoop a little to drop the waste in; the DG is also several inches taller than the LG, so you have to be careful not to drop any waste when moving it from the litter box to the top of the unit. Pro Tip: Instead of knotting the bags (extra messy when dealing with pet waste), I use the smallest size zip ties to secure the top and bottom. As long as you lock them down extra tight they hold really well. Also, you save a couple of inches of the bags that way too.

I am in love with my Diaper Genie. To be clear, I am not a mom - I am a 28 year old woman who lives alone in a studio/one bedroom apartment with a do and a cat. One day my friend told me about how she had bought a dialer genie to use for throwing away her dog’s poop, which had become increasingly stinky due to cancer medication. I happened to live in a small historic neighborhood of Boston where there are 0 trash bins for some reason, so I often found myself having to double bag my dog’s poop and throw it it my own trash. I ended up buying a diaper genie to solve this problem and I have to say - THESE THINGS ARE AMAZING AND TOTALLY UNDERUSED!!! I now use it to throw away my dog’s poop if I have to, my cat’s poop and litter, and any super stinky food items or other household stuff that I don’t want smellingup my trash. The design is incredibly easy to use and efficient, and one bag fill lasts months. It’s sleek enough to tuck in a corner or closet, but doesn’t look offensive if left out. It’s seriousky perfect for so many uses other than actual diapers!!! Can not recommend enough.

Having 2 ferrets in the house means there's a LOT of poop. We go through a lot of litter. At first, were just putting the soiled litter in a small trash can, and taking out the bag twice a week. However, our house also has a pretty bad problem with fruit flies. We can usually keep them under control, but they were starting to breed a lot in the soiled trash can. Every time I scooped litter into the trash, a cloud of flies would erupt from the can. EW! We tried hanging fly paper above the trash can, and while it did catch a lot of flies, they were still breeding quickly. And then, my husband remembered his sister raving about how great the diaper genie is. So we tried one. And OH MY GOD this is so great! We bought a second one so we can keep one in the office and one in the bedroom. (They're light enough to move between rooms, but large enough to be awkward, so it's just easier to have one in each room where needed.) Now, Marshall's ferret litter does a pretty good job of odor control already, but there's only so much a litter can do when it's completely soaked in poo and pee. However, the diaper genie keeps the smell locked firmly away. It also keeps out the flies! The fly population in our house has drastically fallen, to practically zero. The only thing I will say is that the lid is not "airtight". We left the house for a trip one week, and forgot to empty the diaper genie. When we got back, there were maggots under the lid. We cleaned them up and threw out that bag, and it hasn't happened again. It's worth noting though, that you should definitely empty the bag if you plan to be gone for a couple of days. The bags hold a good amount of litter, and the whole thing is very easy to use. I am SO HAPPY with this purchase, I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone who has to deal with poop outside the toilet, for whatever reason.

I used to have the Ubbi diaper pale, which I paid a pretty penny for from one of those boutique baby stores. I'll say that the former unit held a lot of diapers and had a solid construction. That said, that's where the wonderful times ended with that one. My husband and I were sick of the overall stink of our unit and the small, we ordered this diaper genie in hopes that it would solve the smell problem. SO -- not only does the nursery smell good, but it's hands-free which seems like a given, but not all diaper pales do this. The bag system is easy to use. I recommend double knotting the bottom bag and pulling it taught. It blends into a well decorated nursery well. I was worried it would look cheap or obtrusive and it looks just fine. The other nice thing is that it's plastic and you can spray it down with glass cleaner or even hose it down if you end up with a crazy toddler moment. If I had to find any issue with it, it's that it fills up quickly and needs to be emptied and uses its own proprietary bags. This is also a blessing, bc the diapers don't sit in there for too long. It's probably only noticeable to me, b/c my previous diaper pale held about twice as much. Highly recommend!

I just bought a second Diaper Genie for my brother, who is expecting their first little on in February. My little girl is a year and a half now, so my Diaper Genie is that old. I have to say this thing is super convenient. I have not owned any other diaper pail so I have no experience to compare them, but I’ll give you my pros and cons to this thing and you can decide where to go from there. PROS: other than putting in the trash bags for it and the carbon filter on top, the Diaper Genie comes already put together. When my little one was younger and on formula, her #2s were messy but not overly stinky. Worst case scenario if the Diaper Genie got “dirty”, it was simple to wash off with a water hose or just use some disinfectant wipes. As she has gotten into eating solid foods, man does that #2 stink.... this Diaper Genie is a life saver and beats using a grocery store’s plastic bag or putting those dirty diapers in our trash can. It does a great job of isolating the smell. Lastly, the Diaper Genie doesn’t stand out and blends in pretty well with any set up you may have for your little one. Changing out the bags can be simple as it comes with a little mechanism that can be used to cut the bag. Just don’t let the bag get too full as that can complicate things. CONS: This does a great job at trapping smells, but when you open the door you release the beast! I strongly recommend buying extra carbon filters as they help with the smell some. I feel this will apply with any diaper pail. Expect vengeance from the smells when you open that door. Also, the garbage bags took me a minute to learn how to install but my wife had no issues. That was Probably just user error. The other con is that those bag refills aren’t expensive but they aren’t cheap either. If you have multiple kids you may run out a little quicker. I only have my one little girl now so it’s not a big issue for me. I’ve seen others make the comment that the door doesn’t close properly, which just means that the diaper pail is very full. Change that bad boy out and you shouldn’t have any issues. In the end I strongly recommend this product as it will save your nose. Just do yourself a favor and grab some extra carbon filters.
