Had my doubts
Love this system. We had a sony surround sound system that died in a flood. Went for this because we have hardwood floors now and didn't want speaker wires. I think this system sounds better and has 100 watts less than our sony. We particularly like the thin but powerful woofer. If this holds up like the Sony did we will be very happy. I don't think you can go wrong with this soundbar. The best part is nobody sees it,but what a sound.

VIZIO SB4051-D5 review
The sound bar arrived and i eagerly began to assemble it. I put the speakers on brand new Sonos speaker stands and proceeded to carefully follow the setup instructions. After 2 hours of retracing steps and resetting the sound bar I could not get the sound bar to pair with the subwoofer. I even placed a call to my son who just bought the same system and he said "I must be doing something wrong". :-) I came to the realization that the unit was defective. Kind of disappointing. I went on the VISIO support site and surfed around trying to find canned solutions to no avail. I then called the support number. The person who answered asked a few valid questions about the symptoms and setup and then immediately said they would send me a new unit. Kind of floored me to be honest. I expected a run around. The new unit arrived in 3 business days and I swapped the sound bar and sub-woofer. Everything is now working very well and i am pleased with the 2nd unit. Sound is great. The return label was in the packing slip. Return shipping is free. all i had to do was repack (fairly easy) and get it to UPS. Vizio customer service gets my thumbs up!! Even though i had to return the unit i still give it 5 stars for sound and value. UPDATE: After a couple of months of use I can say that I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase. Sound is decent for the tv. But what I really like is the Bluetooth along with my music. Great sound for the price.

Sounds great.
Had problems at first. It turns out the problem was from the D class vizio tv. When I upgraded to a new e class, there were no problems. Works beautifully and sounds great. The HDMI ports on the d class won't support this soundbar, but the e class will.

Pretty great
Just got mine yesterday. Set up is a little tasking, and making sure everything is connected/synced is also tasking. The reward though is well worth it. Sounds amazing and easy to control. Haven't had disconnect issues, audio lag, or even popping. Now I'll be blunt, the small speakers DO project sound. But not much which was a bit disappointing. I also thought the subwoofer wasn't working though it was all connected. But you just mess with the setting a little bit, and you WILL FEEL the subwoofers power. Minus the speakers it's definitely a quality sound system. I use mine for gaming, so you can imagine it gets load with explosions, gun blasts, sword clashing, etc. Voices are clear during cut scenes. The vehicles roar loudly and beautifully. I listen to metal music so you can feel the double bass from the drums, guitars are clear, everything sounds good. I say it's worth every penny. Great job Vizio.

AMAZING QUALITY! LOVE IT! Tons of features! AMAZING SOUND!!!
Absolutely amazing surround sound system!!! Very easy to set up, and phenomenal sound! The sound bar is much smaller than I expected, but has great sound! The rear surround speakers are awesome! And the subwoofer is AMAZING! I have it set on 3 out of 12 and it ROCKS! I have found that laying it down flat as opposed to vertical and on its feet yealds MUCH deeper bass. I have the subwoofer under my couch, against my wall, and it shakes the entire room on good 5.1 supported movies! All the components feel VERY high quality, with heavy aluminum end caps on all the speakers and subwoofer, and high quality metal mesh grills, this is an AMAZING system, very balanced with a ton of features with the connected app! The regualr remote isn’t bad to use either, plus I have a Harmony remote programmed to the surround system as well. Can’t state enough how pleased I am with this system! Had it for a few months now and enjoying beyond belief!

Great sound and features- Great Price
I’ve had my Visio SB-4051 for about a month now. Frankly I’m 100% satisfied. The sound is great including surrounding separation. The subwoofer is excellent and the bass unit fits nicely under the couch without compromising sound quality. The surround is wireless but the rear surround speakers plug into the subwoofer although the wires are very long making it possible to set the rear speakers in the optimal place. The App is very good and allows fine tuning of the sound to suit your taste. The system connects to your WiFi system so firmware updates as well as access to other electronic devices is possible. Bluetooth connection is easy and trouble free. I bought a refurbished unit which showed no damage and worked perfectly out of the box. I used the optional mounting bar to mount the sound bar at the top of the TV.

Great Upgrade!
I love this sound bar system. The slim sub-woofer sits discreetly alongside our reclining love-seat. The unit can definitely slide under a couch however I didn't feel comfortable housing it under the recliner. Set up was a snap. Took about an hour between breaking down my old Bose system and hooking this one up. The system can really shake the house to its foundation if that's what you like. My only issue is that the remote is hard to see and the display is nearly impossible to view at night. After looking round and round at wireless soundbar systems I pulled the trigger with this one and could not be happier. Aesthetically pleasing and has cut the amount of wires by at least 60%. Highly recommended.
Pretty Swag
Great sound, nice looking slim wireless subwoofer
I really love the Vizio SB4051-D5 Smartcast system. I have it connected via optical to my Vizio M50-E1. I don't have to change the input on the sound bar, when I change the input on the TV. It always uses the optical out on the TV and I set the TV remote control to control the volume on the sound bar. So that I don't have to use the remote that came with the sound bar, or the Smartcast app unless I need to adjust bass, or change from Bluetooth. When I first tried to connect to HDMI, Optical digital, Digital, I would have had to use the AUX in for something. I have a cable box, computer, 4k player, and a game system connected to the TV. Plus to get it to play the sound for the Smartcast app on the TV it took too many connections that the sound bar didn't have, so I figured out the single input. Love the wireless subwoofer, nice and clean. Love the slim line subwoofer, better than the box. Cons Setup to WiFi is a pain, you have to hunt and find instructions to connect. Once connected it is fine. Plus if you connected a 4k device, such as the computer, via the HDMI through the sound bar it reduced the resolution to 1080. But easy to bypass if you use single audio output method. Shipper review Was shipped fast and even though it was"refurbished" it was in great condition.

Less Wires and boxes - Great Sound - Good Value for our Family's Entertainment Needs
I debated between a soundbar and a set of high-end speakers with a receiver. In the end, I went with this soundbar and I am pleased. Physical setup of the vizio was easy, however getting the interface with the TV was difficult. The manual doesn't really tell you much about which functions to turn on from your TV menu. I had to call Vizio customer support - they were helpful and able to talk me through setup from my TV menu. Once I set it up - I was very pleased to learn about the ARC function; my TV now easily controls the volume of the soundbar. No need for a separate remote and so far no calls to Dad at work asking how to make the TV work! The ARC HDMI cable greatly reduces the number of cables required - another plus. You really only need to use the remote if you want to change the balance of the speakers. I also like the wireless aspects of it. While not entirely wireless - I like that the rear speakers only have wires to the subwoofer - this and the sleek 3 speakers in one bar, give our family room a less cluttered look which I really appreciate. The sound quality is very good to me. Perhaps an audiophile would be more critical. I've used it to watch and listen to concerts in HD and BluRay action movies. I feel as if I'm on the front row of the opera and I feel the bass in the action flixs. To get better sound, you would have to spend significantly more money and put more and larger speakers in your TV room. I have not experienced issues with pairing as stated in previous reviews. This is perfect for our family's entertainment needs and lifestyle.

Great 5.1 System!
I have this attached with an optical cord to a 75 inch vizio Smart TV. Sound is great, I purchased mounting brackets to mount just below the TV so I still have access to the control buttons on top. The slim subwoofer works great, even better than I thought it would. I would definately Recommend this setup for any configuration. VIZIO SB4051-D5 Smartcast 40" 5.1 Slim Sound Bar System
