I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I had substituted cayenne pepper for Aleppo pepper (as suggested in the recipe I was following) & while I like things hot, this was a little spicier than I anticipated. Then I ordered Aleppo pepper from amazon. I tried my recipe again (an eggplant recipe), but this time using Aleppo pepper rather than cayenne pepper. It made a BIG difference. What a nice flavor it lent to the eggplant & not too hot.

I am an excellent and knowledgeable home cook but did not know about Nigella seeds until watching A Nigella Lawson cooking program. They look like poppy seeds but have a mild oniony, peppery fragrance when crushed or ground. They are delicious added to soups, stews, braises, dips and salad dressings. As with most whole or ground spices, store them away from heat and light. Buying in smaller quantities that can be used within the year ensures fresh flavor. To paraphrase General McArthur, spices don’t die, they just fade away over time.

There was a picture posted of crushed seeds that looked like red pepper. These are whole, small black seeds with a delightful peppery but not hot flavor. Bought them to use on my homemade hummus and they are both pretty and delicious! Slight citrus smell and taste; really good!

I love everything about this spice. The color, the fragrance, the taste. It arrived in 2 days, just in time for Memorial Day BBQ. I’m making grilled chicken skewers. Great recipe from Zahav cookbook that calls for exotic Israeli spices. The Spice Way is the only place to buy Middle Eastern spices in my opinion. Spices from this store are always fresh, reasonably priced, and add an exotic touch to any Middle Eastern recipe.

Great fruity fragrance. Excellent flavor. As a person who likes heat, I would call this mild. You can take a dab and eat it dry, so it's not too hot. This is one of the peppers you can use enough to get great flavor. This is no habanero heat bomb. We will buy this again and again. For people who like great pepper flavor, this is highly recommended.

100% HABANERO PEPPER - came in a sealed zip lock type bag. Lots of heat, looks and smells fresh. Comparing to my old habanero pepper reminded me of how much my old ground habanero pepper had weakened over time. 4 oz is quite a lot so I refilled my 1 oz jar and froze the rest. Nice flavor and gives an overall mouth heat, not specific only to the area where consumed. Overall very satisfied with the packaging, which is reusable and the pepper, which is plenty hot.

After living in Istanbul for over two years, I have had a hard time finding the same quality spices in America. However this Aleppo Pepper (Pul Biber in Turkey) is just as good as any I bought in the Istanbul Spice Bazaar or in my travels across Anitolia. Will definitely be buying again. Aleppo pepper is such more than crushed red pepper flakes. It has a sweet and spicy flavor that is complex and robust. It adds a wonderfully robust flavor to any meal.

I was so excited to find this spice. My husband and I eat lunch almost every day at a lovely restaurant overlooking the ocean and I generally order Salmon and it is cooked with the most delicious sauce. I ask the chef if I could have his recipe and he gave me his ingredients. It did not have the measurements of each ingredient. I also always ask for extra sauce and I put it on my salad for dressing, The whole meal is so delicious with this sauce. The main ingredient if the Aleppo Pepper. I made some tonight at home and put on my salad. It is good but not as good as the chefs. I am going to have to perfect it. It is so delicious Just enough heat to be good but not too much. I also shared it with my daughter in law today and she is excited to try it also. She is a better cook than me so I'm sure she will make it perfect.

I received a new cookbook for Christmas and this was an ingredient I couldn't find locally. I used the substitute the recipe called for, but couldn't help but wonder what the real deal spice would do. I tried it last night and loved it! It has a bite to it but it isn't a lingering heat and it isn't one that you have to stop and grab some milk or water! Not as sweet as cayenne and not as hot as a Habanero. Scoville units I found are as follows: Ancho: 1000-1500, Chipotle: 2,500-8000, Aleppo: 10,000, Habanero: 100,000-350,000. Packaged great, quality was great and came when promised! Definitely will be buying more!

I guess I am a cooking show watcher. Everyone was talking Mediterranean spices. Aleppo pepper, other Turkish spices. So I had to try it. They said it gave your food a different taste. It does. Spices were fresh. Expiration date very good. For the price it was a good deal. My only complaint....is that I have to find a container to hold the pepper Oh I could keep it in the ziplock pack it came in, but if I want to put on shelf, I need a bottle.
