Our spring irrigation startup appointment didn't go as planned because our indoor Irritrol timer wasn't working properly. All of the sprinklers themselves were working fine, but when the tech tried to test the timer, the zones would only turn on for a few seconds before shutting down. 24 V was flashing on our timer display (same as last year too but it worked fine), so the tech switched out the AC adapter thinking that had to be the issue--it wasn't. So he recommended we purchase a new indoor timer. The Rain Bird one he had with him would have cost us $150, so he recommended I purchase one elsewhere and install it myself. I was hesitant because I had no idea how easy it would be, and trust me, it was very EASY TO INSTALL this timer. (And it was 1/3 the cost of having the irrigation technician do it for us.) All I had to do was: 1) remove the wire cover from existing timer and take a pic of the wire configurations. 2) detach all the wires and unscrew the existing timer from the wall. 3) attach the new timer to the wall (I did have to make new holes but it was a snap). 4) reattach the wires to the new Rain Bird timer. 5) program the timer, which was also SUPER EASY. The whole process didn't take longer than fifteen minutes. So if you have an existing indoor irrigation timer that isn't working properly, I can safely recommend this one. Great price, easy to install (with existing wires), and easy to program.

Just like many of the earlier review, easy to setup, plug and play. I debate about getting a smart wifi version. But then I don't change my watering profile often since I have a drought resistant garden. Only problem is when power goes out, and I always need to reprogram. This SST400IN solves the problem. I was done installing, programming, verifying in under 30min.

Our last controller was taken out by a power surge, so this was a forced replacement. I have to say, however, that had I been able to see how user-friendly this model was, I probably would have upgraded anyway. Easy to install, and I love the new programming method. It's intuitive and more robust than my prior model.

This is such an easy controller for the irrigation system. Piece of cake to install; easier to program. I'm a 62-year-old woman who enjoys do-it-yourself tasks, but I've not got a lot of experience. This controller was easy for me. Anyone can do this! I'd give it six stars if I could!

I was replacing an old Hunter Sprinkler XC400I X-Core 4-Station with this. I shopped around and was between this one and the Rain Bird ST8O-WIFI System Timer/Controller. I decided against Wi-Fi because I have a lot of RING security cameras and other things that are using the Wi-Fi, didn't want to overload my system. My landscaper wanted to charge me $100 to install it, I thought I'd give it a whirl myself. So glad I did, this could not have been easier to install. Taking down my old controller took more time than the install. This unit is simple to understand and program. Although I watched videos from their website, I don't think you need to, both the manual and unit itself is self explanatory. I don't have 6 zones but wanted to have them in case I add any in the future. You can not go wrong with this system. Buy with no second thoughts!

My Toro Greenskeeper got zapped by lightning on the AC. Just sodded lawn and needed replacement overnight. This SST900IN is very easy to install. If replacing a timer, label all wires before removing old unit. After mounting new timer, it took 2 minutes from start to testing zones. I just need to add new rain sensor and put the cover on. It took only 3 minutes to program all zones. This is really nice! All zones came ready to connect. There are no additional zone modules to buy. PS, comes equipped with surge protection!

After reading reviews my only reluctant was answers to Q can you direct wire to AC? Replies were NO because the transformer is part of the plug. To my thrill, the latest module we just got this weekend 5/18/2019, had a heavy duty 3 prong plug but the transformer 120 to 24 VAC was internal. Taking a black cover off, disconnecting the plug wire nuts, then simply direct wire to AC wiring. Very simple to setup, use and has rain sensor option. Even used same hook and sprinkler wires. Suggest splicing flexible new wire to old 2007 sprinkler wires to avoid breaking and duck tape old cracked lining. Took less than 2 hours removing old Modula MSP (see 3rd photo).

Took longer to get the old controller off the wall than it did to install this and get the sprinklers running. Take a picture of your old wiring setup up, pull old one off the wall, put this new one on, put the wires back, and test. I had the whole thing done, programmed, and grass being watered in less than 20 minutes. Nice display and all the buttons are relatively easy to read. Its been working for a week no complaints.

This is pretty easy to program and test. The only features missing is a remote app to activate it (but it's way cheaper than the models that do this) and the ability to set separate durations for each cycle. For example, I'd like to run the water for 5 minutes in cycle one and then for 20 minutes in cycle two. But you cannot. The duration is the same for all cycles. So I've activated all four cycles for 6 minutes each and that seems to be working fine. Despite this shortcoming, I'm giving it five stars because of the value for the money. It's been controlling my sprinklers for several months now and the grass is greening up very nicely with minimal run-off.

This was so easy to set up both installing it as well as programming it. My husband thought we'd have to hire someone but it was so intuitive and easy, I was able to do it myself. My only wish is that they would provide a sticker or place to indicate which station waters which part of the yard so getting the watering times absolutely right is even more convenient (love that each station can not only be set for a different duration but also different days from the other stations).
