I have been a hobbyist musician for about 15+ years and have used numerous DAWs and editing suites. Got this as primarily a songwriting and composition tool, but have already used it for some demos to good effect. The onboard mics sound pretty good for sketching tracks, and the pre-amps are nice and clean-sounding. Interface is pretty intuitive, and if you are familiar with multi-tracking you can just flip through the manual as needed for the more advanced editing functions. Speaking of that, it is a full-capability multi-track, so there is a robust editing system that you can utilize in the unit, or it is quite easy to mix-down individual project tracks and drag them into your preferred software via USB or SD reader. Big plus for me is the portability because it is sturdy and fits easily in my parlor-sized gig bag, and the included batteries/charger grant flexibility to lay down tracks whenever I'm out of town. Included headphones are good quality, good bass response. If you are going to use this as a primary project platform, I would recommend getting an additional, larger SD card and a charger since it can go through batteries with sustained use. However, the price point and the quality of the unit make it so that I do not feel those additional purchases necessitate a reduced rating.

for a SIAB, it is very nice to record on and with the multitrack recording feature is easy to put a song together and produce a finished product. If you are a musician on a budget and would like to produce your own tunes this is the machine for you. The instructions are very easy to follow.

1) This thing makes great recordings! 2) This thing is kind of complicated to use. 3) This thing eats batteries like CRAZY! 4) THIS THING MAKES GREAT RECORDINGS!! Reminds me a lot of my old school reel to reel deck (teac 3340). The sound is clean and the preamps sound reasonably warm to me. the interface is a little opaque, and you will spend some quality time with the manual, but i like my results so far! Projects take up disk space rapidly, but since it is challenging to navigate i plan to use "many" smaller SD cards with only a few songs per card. I love the old school mixdown You ride the faders in real time. Take the time to name your files, even though it is challenging. I just ordered a power supply, because this thing goes through batteries FAST! I like the tuner. I like the reverb, which can be adjusted. If you push stop and rewind together, the song jumps to 0:00:00 The internal microphones sound pretty good, but i did not push them much. The unit is pretty much stand alone and uses a proprietary working format, and your computer can only access files output by the unit. You can load external .wav files and record along with them, after "importing" into the unit. I am very happy with this unit, it sounds great! -but it is a little cumbersome. but it sounds great!

The Tascam is fantastic - better than described. I took it out of the box, followed the Quick Setup instructions, and in 30 minutes I had a primitive version of a 5 track song. Very easy to use & understand! The unit was sold with some accessories that didn't add value, though. The 16 mb SD Card was great, but the headphones are for children (cheaply made, uncomfortable, and very poor sound), and the AA battery charger is likewise, poorly constructed - the 4 batteries lasted for only 1 hour of recording. I would suggest to the very nice seller that they substitute the Tascam AC adapter instead. Thanks for delivering an excellent recording device, on time, and at a reasonable price! JF

The Tascam DP-008EX is a rock solid high quality portable recorder, highly profiled at each Amazon listing. This packaging of the recorder with a nice groups of accessories provides many of the items you will need. When received the included battery charger was defective. A simple email to the dealer resulted in an immediate replacement with perks. On the rare possibility you might have a problem with this order I believe the vendor will provide you with excellent support.

Great product. Not too complicated. I read through the quick startup guide and recorded all the parts to a song with my friends in an hour. I ordered the kit that came with a mic, book, batteries, cables, etc. all for the same price as buying the recorder with no accessories from another vendor. Highly recommended.

Pet scan once again lived up to his expectations it's a little hard to learn I am not that good with computer stuff but I'm getting there it's not like the old 4-track cassette that's for sure but I love it

We are very pleased with this recording device. We have never used anything like this before and were rank beginners, so it took us awhile to review the instructions. The instructions are very clear; it's just that this recorder has many more functions that we needed to use at first, but expect that we will later on. We also found several videos on You-Tube that we found very helpful. We used the built-in microphones to record vocal, guitar and banjo; we plugged the bass directly into the unit. We were extremely pleased with the resulting sound quality. Using a small amount of reverb greatly enhanced the quality of the vocals. The headphones were great. We would definitely recommend this product.

Size of product is excellent Play back quality is great It would help to have a tutorial dvd included

I received my product on time and well packaged. Is as expected, along with the extras that were promised. I have not yet finished setting it up but I already know that I will have a lot of fun recording music with it!
