This is the first one of these I have. So with that I would say it works for what it is. I bought it to clean the edge after using a electric sharpener and it does the job.

Very nice steel sharpener

If you're using the steel that came with your block set, you don't know how great it is to have this larger, made with good carbon steel, sharpener. Yes, I have to keep it in a drawer because it's larger. But this gets used every day and is a tremendous improvement over what came with the knife set.

right size, good fit

If you know how to use a sharpening steel this is the product for you. I have slightly large hands so the handle is not quite big enough for me. It is like all the rest of the ones I have ever used, but this one is good there is a question here about being giftable. I do not know, mine was not a gift

Just Like the ones I used in my restaurant days works great and no binding on blade like some others that said they had a better design, will purchase again for backup and gifts for my chef friends.

Good price for a large sharpening steel

The product seems well-constructed, and should last a long time. It's larger than I anticipated at 12" , but that's my fault for ordering without checking the size that I wanted before ordering.

Great "Steel", sharpens well.

I've used several of these "steel" sharpeners in my time and this is one of the best. It works very well for me. I especially like the length. It is the longest one I've ever used and that makes it safer in my opinion. I'm pleased with it so far.

Good and solid

Good and solid. Works real well. I know many say it does not sharpen only hones. Maybe but it works for me.

Much Needed Tool

I use this tool on a daily basis to sharpen my knives prior to use. After a few minutes of watching videos on how to properly use it, my knives stay sharp.

Longer is better, love stroking this thing

I bought this to replace my 10 inch stainless steel rod. At 12 inches, it allows for a fuller stroke and I don't need to just do it the safe way with the tip against my chopping block, I can instead pretend to be a professional chef and cross this with a knife in my other hand with a flourish. Also, the carbon steel makes a noticeable difference vs my old stainless steel, which was obviously softer. I guess I could have just made due with the old one, but for $8, I couldn't resist. Sorry also couldn't resist with the bad dad joke in the title.
