Makes a razor jealous!
I’ve used this/these stones for 4 months now and I love them! Puts a wicked sharp edge, shaving sharp, on a blade. I’ve sharpened all my Henckel kitchen knives. Benchmade, Spyderco, Kersahws, Buck, Cold Steel, folders and fixed. I plan on getting another dual stone soon. My advice is get the hone block with it as the stone wears down as it puts an edge on, I perfer it to ceramic stones now that I’ve used it.

Great knife sharpener
I gave this to my husband as a gift for Christmas this year. He's only had a chance to use it once but he loves it. I really hit the nail on the head with this gift. It was his favorite gift this year.

Very high quality sharpening stones. These perform very well and I'm pleased with the purchase.

Best Sharpener I've Ever Used
I've known about Kota whetstones for a couple of years now, but I already have a few, 800, 1000, and 1500 grit stones. I decided to get the Kota 3000/8000 for true sharpness and am incredibly happy with it. It has to be soaked for about 15-20 minutes, less I probably fine though(I used filtered water so the hard element in the water like calcium residue was not involved). Make sure you have a small cup of water to maintain a thin film of water on the stone while in use. also for this one, in particular, you definitely want to sharpen your blade with lower grits first. after finishing on the 8000 side my blades can easily slice through any fruit or vegie with almost no applied force.

No instruction manual!
Okay, I didn't get an instruction manual. However, I like my meat knives very sharp. Hessler Worldwide kinda spoiled me. I had tried to sharpen them after ages on a cheap magnetic sharpener and it started dinging every blade I put in it, including my hairdressing scissors. I am very happy to have this stone. My grandfather sharpened his pocketknives away the whole time I was growing up. He taught me how to use a whetstone. I looked up how to use a water stone. I soaked in water for 10 mins and then sharpened my most damaged knife to make sure I could still do it right. The guide scratched up my knife! I didn't sharpen it long enough to remove every chip, however, most of the damage from the cheap sharpener was removed quickly. My father was saying I might need more than a whetstone for my stainless steel, it's not the stuff of pocket knives. However, the 2000 grit did a fine job. I felt no need to polish it further. I didn't want to press my luck and weaken it by over-sharpening it. It was a meat knife. I am very happy with the stone. There was no writing on the work surface. The stand looks great on my granite countertops. I sharpen at the sink and the rubber holds it in place on the countertop. After it dries a bit, I move it to the wood more for display and storage. My grandfather would be horrified to know I waited until I was 45 to buy good whetstones. How many knife sets, how many scissors over my lifetime were tossed just buy another set? A few. I think everyone should have these and learn to sharpen with them. I also think tools for cutting hair are a great idea, I plan on using the finer 3000 grit stone to keep mine sharp forever. I can remember trying to get my money's worth out of "Never sharpen" knives by sawing threw meat slowly and painfully for years. My grandparents were poor farmers but all their tools were well maintained. It's a little luxury no one should be without. And I'd love to give these as gifts next Christmas. What a great guy gift!

Great Stones
Product arrived on time. Excellent packaging. Extremely well made and very easy to use. Sharpens my knives and chisels perfectly. I also purchased the 3,000 - 8,000 grit stone which is equally as good.

Very Nice Stone
This stone is such a pleasure to use. Take care of it and it will take care of you. I'm a Chef and this stone is the answer to a sharp knife. It comes with an angle guide (which I don't use) but it's nice to have so you can check to see if your natural tendency to sharpen your knives is the correct angle that you should be performing.

Good quality and well priced.
Other reviewers have made comments that the stone has writing on the working surface which was not possible to remove. This may have been present on earlier versions but not the product I received. I have used it a couple of times and it is exactly as advertised and well priced.

Good Product
A quality product. A two-sided sharpening stone allows you sharpen with the heavy grit and remove the shaving with the fine grit. It comes with a bamboo base that keeps the stone firmly in position while sharpening your knife and there are also two rubber things to hold the stone in place in the base. The blade guide is also very useful and not something you always see. I think this attention to detail speaks well of the company making the product. I expect sharpening stones to last several decades and therefore look for a quality product.

Packaged well and shipped with no damage. Used it ...
Packaged well and shipped with no damage. Used it for sharpening and honing a couple irons from hand plans and a knife. It does it’s job. Found out I need a courser grit block to make clambering edges and making new edges easier. Bought a bear moo course grit whetstone and it was packaged poorly. Came in chipped in a couple corners.
