Outstanding product for multiple uses. Im a cofounder at shaderjoes dot com and of the hundreds of recording tools we use at varied events from podcasts and meetings to concerts and shows this is becoming our go to tool for all recodings paired with iphones and ipads with additional izotope software. Even for small band gigs this blows tascam and zoom away as the included internal mic is $500 level by itself better than shure and equal to the best rodes even for video. The one downside is lack of support by this young company lack of pdf users manual etc but you can work around it online. As an example the 1 hour recording limit is a true pain and will blindside you , potentially ruining your gig until you figure it out. As a one of a kind recording tool whether voices and podcasts or music and song this is 10 stars once you’re past the learning curve. We are buying 10.

I have had this unit for a few months, and I wanted to wait to review it until I had experience with it. Where to start- first of all the unit is very well designed and thought out. Internal microphone works well, and what is particularly nice is that you can choose to have the external mic active or not, depending on which input jack is used on the unit. There is a free app that runs on your smartphone that can remotely control the unit- great for recording bad practice, etc. The app also has a "visual"mixer which is very intuitive. The app also allows you to share recordings very easily ( text, email, etc) and if the other musician has a Spire, they can layer on another track and send it back to you! This thing is awesome!

This device hits a home run as an entry-level studio for singer/songwriter types that just want to scratch out some ideas then publish their own track that sounds decent with very little audio engineering effort. I'm sure professional engineers would laugh at this thing, but if you're a home studio geek that wastes a lot of time setting up interfaces and tweaking levels than actually recording, give it a try. I think the iOS app could stand to add a couple features but for a niche product that came out of nowhere, this has a lot of promise. As in, a beginner could probably save $2000 trying to set up their own bedroom studio to do what this thing can do out of the box. Sure, you might eventually hit a wall where you need it to do more than it does, but at that point you're probably ready to pay an hourly rate at a real studio instead of trying to climb the learning curve of building your own.

This product is fantastic! I was looking for computer software that my husband could record with as he hasn't touched either of his larger mixers in years ... they were just too difficult to figure out. When I found this for the price it is, I was so very excited. We set it up last night and yes, it took about 2 hours to fiddle with the iPhone app and get some of the extras sorted out, but WOW! He laid down three songs in the next hour and was really excited ... going to sell the other stuff. YES: this product requires an Apple device (iPad or iPhone ... if you have trouble seeing, invest in a $350 iPad); per the website, it needs iOS10 or greater (operating system of the iPad or iPhone) ... to truly unlock all the potential. NO: it can run without an iPhone/iPad but you won't have all the mixing/editing/effects that come with the free app. The app can be a bit daunting: I spent a few ours prior to purchase going over and printing all the pages I could find from the Izotope's website and then, watching quite a few YouTube videos. There's a lot this little unit can do and yes, if you're just starting out with recording like we were (as we never got the hang of it with our other equipment), it can be overwhelming. But stick with it ... play with it ... it's truly innovative and amazing. This being said, it's great for the musician to drop down chords, lyrics, anything ... especially nice for on the go (I'm setting hubby up with a backpack for all the stuff that he can just grab and go). You can share or download, email/text ... we've saved it to a file on the iPhone and then, played it to a Bluetooth speaker so he can hear what he just recorded and doesn't have to wear the headphones (YES: you need headphones to record so that you don't get feedback ... eight tracks! Yeah!) I don't know what else to say ... and I'm not the musician in the family!! (I'm the 'road crew') No matter what instrument you play - and I'm thinking about getting out my recorders and laying down a few tracks - THIS IS THE BEST! Just to note: this unit will save your music, even if you're just tinkering with songs .. get them down so you don't 'lose them to the ether'. If you're going to make a demo to produce, you might want more professional software but I really like the sound of this unit. For what we need, it's fantastic. Wonderful. Just plain magnificent!

the only draw back is that it only works with apple products.

This little thing actually makes recording music fun and playful instead of a chore. There is no tirelessly fiddling around with EQ settings or trying to mix to perfection. There are a few amps, pedals, and reverb settings you can add BEFORE you record but there is nothing you can do to the track afterwards besides adjust volume, where to pan it, and cut or trim parts out. What you record is what you get. It's raw and it's real. At first I thought this little recorder was a bit of a gimmick but it actually seems to take all the gimmick out of recording. -The device itself feels very sturdy and has a nice weight to it. I think it could survive dropping it once or twice but probably not anymore than that without some kind of damage. -The built-in-mic is decent sound quality but nothing special. There is a slight hiss at higher gain levels but it nothing unbearable. You can get very clear and upfront recordings with it. The mic is pointed slightly upwards from the device so you will have to keep that in mind when recording. So if you're sitting on a couch then placing this thing right on the coffee table would be perfect recording position. If you have a professional level mic, you will probably end up using that over the built in one. -The DAW is clean and quick on my iphone 6. 8 tracks, some amps and some reverb/delay pedals. The reverb pedals are all too wet and noticeable sounding even on the lowest settings which make them unusable for the most stuff imo. -Mixing is visual with no numbers or knob turning. Its quite intuitive but can also be a little frustrating not knowing what the numbers really are. Working with such a stripped down DAW really brings out the creativity though. -Battery life seems great on the device. I haven't had it die during a recording yet. The phone app is quite demanding though and will drain your battery pretty quickly I would say the Spire Studio is mostly geared towards acoustic musicians for either bedroom or touring use. If you're someone who finds recording music to be a chore or are constantly writing new songs and forgetting the olds before you had a chance to record them then this little studio is definitely for you.

Wow I love this device!!! Let me start by saying that I am normally technically challenged when it comes to the recording side of music, and even I was able to figure out how to use this Spire easily. I was recording within minutes of taking it out of the box. And wow, I can’t even describe my amazement when I listened to the recording. The quality is amazing!!! I’m not even the best singer and this thing made me sound amazing! Seriously impressed. Oh and I want to add that this device worked just fine on my iPhone 5se. So apparently a 6 is not necessary as long as you have later than iOS 10. Love this product!!! Highly recommend!

I never leave reviews for things...but this piece of gear was totally worth writing about. This thing is AMAZING!! I've been in recording studios, have done home recording and have been around this stuff for years. One of my biggest limitations that I would have when songwriting was my workflow. As I'm now more domesticated and a family man, being able to record at home was just super tough. This thing just gets the job done and super quick! My ideas aren't hindered by workflow anymore and sound 10x better then any voice memo I've ever recorded. I liked this product enough that I went ahead another one for some of the other people I collaborate with in songwriting so they could contribute to the process. Can't praise this thing enough!

The Spire Studio is perfect for capturing your songwriting ideas quickly. I have a complete digital audio workstation and accessories for elaborate recording and editing but that setup does not lend itself well to quickly capture song ideas before they get away. That’s what the Spire Studio does and it does it superbly. It is small, portable and so simple to use to get a high quality recording of your song ideas. It is rechargeable and I have used it for several hours on a single charge with no problems. The accompanying Spire App is genius in the way it interacts with the Spire Studio. It easily connects with it’s own wifi signal which is much more reliable than Bluetooth. I have recorded with the built-in mic and using the inputs with very good results. I used the built-in mic for acoustic guitars, vocals and hand drums, all with very good results. You can also plug in your favorite mic (there’s even phantom power for condenser mics). I’ve also recorded direct with acoustic guitars, bass and keys. The mix function on the app is similar to Izotope’s very popular software plugins in how it works. You have a visual representation of your tracks that you simply slide up or down for volume control and left or right for panning. The app’s built-in effects are quite good and there are options for reverb, amps, effects, etc. I do wish the effects could be added after you recorded a track but as it is now you can only add effects when recording and those effects are printed with the track so you need to make sure when you record with effects that you will be happy with them because they cannot be removed afterwards. Maybe a future firmware and app update will change that. There is a built-in metronome in the app which is very handy. I wish there was also a tuner (maybe a future update). I am thrilled to have this as a songwriting tool! I have been able to capture song ideas with multiple parts that previously would have gotten away from me before I could get them down. Small, portable, quality, app control, rechargeable, priced right... what’s not to love about this thing!

It is incredibly fun. Excellent interface, quite user friendly. I appreciate the device simplicity and high quality. Fire it up!
