I installed this into my steel French door (core is foam/wood combo) below the glass. My 9.6 lb Bichon Havanis (Havanese) adult dog is low to the ground and likes the lowness. I used a Dremel with the steel 20X life cutoff wheel to cut through steel after drilling inside line drawn around actual pass through shape. Then, I used a sawsall to get through the wooden bits in between. You simply MUST leave at least .25" of material between the glass pocket and between the bottom of door else your door will be ruined. Dimensions listed for these products are not accurate though. This one states 9.06" as L. In window openings, Height goes first, so I figured that out. BUT...the actual height of item is 9.80" - this posed a bit more of an issue for me since installing in limited space. Be sure to allow 1" extra height and width - just for good measure. The only tiny issue I've had is in locking the green lock - the out option. The red lock lock keeps out the unwanted visitors though. Also, the door does stick open at first, but after several uses, it falls down nicely. Good air seal around the flap.

Works great!!! I installed it on my bedroom door so I could keep it closed to keep the air conditioning contained better at night and keep the bedroom cooler but also let the cats have access to food, water, litter pan and their favorite napping spots throughout the house as well. Works like a charm. It had a felt strip around the door to help seal out the weather and bugs but that made pushing it open a little stiff. Since its on an inside door, I just pulled this off with pliers and now it swings much more freely. I have a 9 pound cat and a 13 pound cat and they both fit through easily. The locks are handy to keep them contained to one half of the house as well in case I need to for cleaning, etc. Only took the cats about an hour to figure out how it works.

Bought this because it was cheap, and I was just installing it in a basement window for my cat. It was easy to install, and works well. Once my cat got used to it he doesn't have any problems using it. It would be cool if it had a slow close feature, it seems to close pretty hard on his tail as he comes through, but it doesn't seem to bother him that much. He's learned to move slowly so it doesn't slam on his tail. other than that it works great. I can lock him inside or outside depending on where I want him to stay.

I live out in the country in Deep East Texas, and last Thanksgiving this little female cat showed up on my porch. We are way out in the sticks where the good Lord himself dropped his sandals on his wanderings, so where she came from is a big mystery to me. Friendliest little thing. Ate up a storm the first few days. Anyway, we have a lot of fox and coyote and I put this door in to keep her safe. Worked like a charm and now she feels special. and I sleep better knowing she is safe. Good product and not too tough to install. Used size medium. Only wish they had included a template with the kit. Would have made cutting the door a lot easier.

I had the dilemma of needing a door that was just big enough let my chubby cat out, but small enough to keep the smaller of my two dogs in. The smaller version of this door was too small for the cat. The next size up seemed perfect, until I realized little dog had managed to weasel his shoulders through and get out. With a little creative use of wood and a jig saw I was able to make the door a little smaller without losing the functionality of the door flap and locks. So, the door worked like it's supposed to before the "redesign," and it works fine for me with the adjustments.

best cat door every. i have four indoor, outdoor cats, and they use the crap out of it, all day long. it will eventually break, but it takes a beating. i get about two a year because i have two entrances, i also keep two spare cause i don't want to wait if and when i have to replace it. easy instal and the cats took like zero time to get acclimated to it.

My cats love it. I put it in a window and my boys live their lives the way they want to. I believe that animals shouldn't be trapped indoor... or outdoor. This gives my cats the control to make the decision they want on being inside or outside. Admittedly the wet cat situation isn't always ideal, but better than wet dog. My cats took a little time to figure it out. I had a pretty bad earwig infestation before I got this because I was just leaving the window open. I've never used the stay open stay closed knobs and they are SUPER hard to move now so I'm guessing they aren't exactly quality.

Love this! I needed a cat door in my office window for my cats (they have a dog door to go outside, but that's all the way upstairs-they don't want to go that far!) I didn't really 'install' this door-just fit it in my slide window and boarded up the top to make it windproof. Cats can come and go as they please-I don't ever lock it. And when the 2 cats get crazy, they come busting through the cat door and it doesn't seem to bother it at all! Seems very tough and rugged. Love it!

We installed this in a piece of plywood that my husband cut a hole in, then propped it up under the window. Significant savings from buying the whole thing. May not be as weather proof for us, but we'll just take it out in the winter. He also built a catio on our back porch, so they use this door to go outside freely. I love that it locks so that we can stop them from going outside when it's too cold. You can also set it to lock one way vs the other (for us, we set it so that in case they push themselves outside, it won't lock them out, they can push their way back in). Or let's say your kitty can go outside but you want the door locked when they return... you can do that too. This was a great purchase for us! Update 1/27: the weather stripping peeled off, trapping two of my kittens outside. thankfully we were home and could hear them scratching at the door. We peeled it off completely so it didn't happen again. I tried to reattach out with hot glue but it made it too thick and the door didn't swing freely. So I took the weather stripping off again. Kinda frustrated because a malfunction in the weather stripping actually locked them outside twice now and we can no longer leave the catio door open when we're not home for fear that they'll get locked outside.

I ordered this cat flap solely because the installation manual existed online and contained dimensions. My tortie locked herself in the bathroom by opening the vanity drawers while the door was closed. I had two choices, bust through the door rendering it useless, or cutting a hole in the door to fit my arm in and shut the drawer. As my cat desperately cried to be freed from the bathroom that contains her food and water bowls and litter box, I performed a quick Amazon and Google search to determine the dimensions in which I should cut the hole. Handheld hacksaw in hand, the cat was free. When the door arrived assembly/installation was effortless. It has held up for months. No need to worry, I also installed child locks on the drawers.
