This is an initial review, can't comment on durability/longevity as I've only had the unit 24 hours. I'll update it if problems crop up. Functionally so far, it's excellent. Very nice and bright screen, snappy response. Of particular note: GPS. Several people here have asked if it has a GPS chip, and the answers given were not confidence inspiring. Like many perhaps, one of my primary uses of this device is for navigation - specifically, offline navigation with downloaded maps. An embedded GPS chip is mandatory for this - estimated locations via wifi are useless for this task. Further, Samsung's web site doesn't mention anything about GPS for this model. Many of their models do have it, and that capability is listed in their tech specs. Other reviews elsewhere indicate it does, so...I rolled the dice and ordered it. The good news is, it absolutely has a GPS chip. I'm using this device with Osmand+ (awesome app), which uses offline maps. I get a very fast, solid and accurate GPS lock with this device - and I'm 100% certain it's not estimating location via wifi, as it works with wifi turned off. Even way out in the boonies, it's providing spot-on accuracy on moving maps as well as recording extremely accurate GPX tracks. If you're looking for a backwoods navigation device, you'll be hard pressed to find something better at this price point.

At the beginning I thought it was to expensive for a tablet only for reading but I realized that it's a very nice tablet for reading and surfing the web. I think the screen is perfect for reading. Not much glare and it's gentle with my eyes. Today is the second day using the tablet without charging it and it is over 50 % of power.

It's a great tablet. The screen is beautiful. Fast. Responsive. Honestly, it lives up to the reviews and works as advertised. I am very happy with my purchase.

This Samsung Tablet just what I was looking for and I have owned this for one and a half months now. I usually purchase my Tablets and Smartphones from Amazon, however, it was not yet on Amazon's website at that time. Since I am a techie type, I throughly tested this tablet before I wrote this review. Below, I list the Pros and Cons that I personally discovered: + Screen Resolution/Form Factor: The screen resolution is excellent at 189ppi. I find that the screen is clearer than my old Tab A 8.0 was. Also, colors are vivid. + OS and Preinstalled Apps...The OS is Nougat 7.1.1 + Regarding Form Factor...I prefer the 16:10 form factor in this Samsung Tab A 2017 over my older Samsung Tab A 2015 with the 4:3 form factor. This Tablet is easier for me to hold and the videos fill the screen better. + Internal Memory/ External Memory Card info--this tablet is advertised at 32GB Internal Memory. However, after the OS and Factory Apps were installed, it began with about 25GB of available internal memory. So when I added my many apps, updates, etc, I now have 19.25GB left. This is enough space to future apps, updates etc. +Memory Card storage...I discovered that I can install an SD Card up to 256GB. However, I installed (for now) a 64GB and still have 20gb left on it. + Speed/Responsiveness/Battery Temp/Battery Life...This tablet is very peppy, does not lag or freeze. Battery is non removable and it has a good amount of power at 5,000 mAh. The battery does not overheat even with downloading apps, watching videos etc. Under normal use it is 80 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit and after downloading apps, watching videos etc, it goes up to 90 to 95 degrees, which is normal, and it quickly goes back down to 80 to 85. I use the free widget called Battery Solo from the Playstore. It shows my battery amount left on my screen and when I tap it, it gives a report of how long the battery has been used and the time left on the battery. Battery Life: The battery has lasted easily from 8am to about 730pm if I use it moderately to heavy as I am on weather apps, Facebook, email, Internet, YouTube on and off most of the day. *I get about 2 hours longer on this 2017 Tab A than I did on my old Tab A 2015. + WiFi...802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band. I use ATT UVERSE and this tablet has superb and fast WiFi. Even outside in my backyard, it still gets 3 bars. I am very pleased with this tablet's WiFi. Also, on the road, it picks up local WiFi wonderfully. + Camera...This camera has a flash, I am happy to report. And it has 8MP, not the best, however, the pictures and videos I took with it are quite clear...I was happily suprized about that! Sound Quality...It is SO SO as there is just one speaker. I tested this watching videos on YouTube, Facebook and music on my SD Card. It was doable in a pinch, however, I use a set of high quality Bluetooth headset and a high quality Bluetooth speaker. With a Bluetooth speaker or headset, the sound is wonderful. + Overall Reasons why I love this tablet: Personally, I found this to be a very impressive and love the screen to body ratio which is 70.5, excellent. It is slim and trim, and easily fits into my purse. My favorite features are the 32GB Internal Memory, my old Tab A 8.0 had just 16GB, too small for today's apps etc and the lo get battery life. Cons: Just one that I discovered: - Sound...just one tiny speaker. I use Bluetooth Headset and a Bluetooth speaker so I did not deduct stars. Would I purchase this tablet again? Yes, because it has many advantages over my older Tab A 2015 Model. Well, I hope that this review has helped with your decision regarding this tablet. Thank you for reading my review. Since I am a techie, I will gladly answer your questions in the comment section.

Works great. I like the user interface, though the iPad, imo, has a better UI. It's easy to set up and easy to use, and it's big enough to read articles and ebooks while being small enough to toss in to my laptop bag without having to worry if there's enough room (I like to also carry magazines, newspapers, and/or notebooks with me just about wherever I go). It works with my debit and credit card reader and software, and it's big enough that everyone can read it and sign their name when the software prompts them to. I was worried that the older people wouldn't be able to see well enough to use it, but that's not a problem like it was with my phone

Pluses - 32 Gig Memory. My old tablet from 2014, also a Samsung only had 16 GIGs - not enough. The sound jack also went bad. Tried to repair, but didn't fix the issue and this new Tab A was as much as the cost of repair, so a new one was a "no-brainer." I also bought a 128 GIG micro SD card, which worked and will give me more than enough space. The icons and rearranging them are different from my prior tablet. I don't like the new calendar. But that's a small issue. I have a Samsung Galaxy 7 phone, so things were similar. Connected to my wi-fi easily. Samsung also has a transfer utility, which copied almost all my apps and data perfectly. Can't really go wrong with this tablet. Not a gaming tablet, but fine for ordinary use.

I was forced to upgrade to a new tablet because many apps stopped working on my old Tab 2. Battery life is amazing on this tablet. Love the internal 32GB and card 128GB. SO much space for music, video, books, etc . Really like the UBS C connector. This size is just right to fit in your hand. Best tablet for me so far. Still using the older ones, but apps continue to be unsupported. My primary device is still a laptop, but this tablet is getting closer. I still have a hard time with the on-screen, small keyboard. So most out going e-mails are on laptop. Also NO smartphone here......

I gotta say . . I have been looking for a tablet like this for at least 2 1/2 - 3 months now. So far I have bought 2 before this one and I was so highly unsatisfied with them within the first couple of hours of owning them I wanted to throw them out the window. So I returned them and finally decided to get an Amazon account. Just got this one today and its perfect so far! 5 STARS! Not a bad price either for the quality of the product. Definitely recommend this if you're on some type of budget or broke like me. 😂🤣😂🤣

Samsung knows how to construct an attractive but sturdy tablet, very pleased with the specs, screen, size, and weight. Would definitely recommend this to someone wanting an android tablet.

I needed to replace my Galaxy tab A 9.7. I researched for months trying to decide which tablet to get. I finally decided on the tab A 8 inch. I love it. It may be smaller, but wow. I like the smaller size since it goes everywhere with me. It was so easy transfering most of my apps from the old tablet. I used Samsung Smart Switch. There were a few apps that I had to reinstall, but for the most part it was super easy. When I did the transfer, it looks like you can transfer from most brands of tablets
